IntroductionIn May 2019, the WHO classified internet gaming disorder (IGD) as a mental disorder in the upcoming International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision. However, individuals affected by IGD or internet use disorders (IUDs) are often not provided with adequate therapy due to a lack of motivation or absence of adequate local treatment options. To close the gap between individuals with IUDs and the care system, we conduct an online-based motivational intervention to reduce problematic internet use and promote treatment motivation in internet gaming disorder and internet use disorder (OMPRIS).Methods and analysisWithin the randomised controlled trial, a total of n=162 participant…
On the Randomisation Gallery:Random Reflections on a Popular Method in Medical Research
2016
Objective: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and meta-analysis are increasingly utilized methods in medicine. There is, however, substantial critique on both from the theoretical as well as from the practical side. Methods: Seven points on RCTs and three on meta-analysis were choosen to summarize the current critique. Studies critically reviewing the quality of meta-analyses in various fields of medicine were narratively reviewed. Results: The typical RCT is short, performed on a small group of selected patients without severe comorbidity. It is expensive and favors drugs over other forms of therapies. Furthermore, neither patients nor doctors much like RCTs, they feel restricted in their…

2017
The Inventory Déjà Vu Experiences Assessment (IDEA) is the only screening instrument proposed to evaluate the Déjà vu (DV) experience. Here, we intended to validate the Italian version of IDEA (I-IDEA) and at the same time to investigate the incidence and subjective qualities of the DV phenomenon in healthy Italian adult individuals on basis of an Italian multicentre observational study. In this study, we report normative data on the I-IDEA, collected on a sample of 542 Italian healthy subjects aging between 18-70 years (average age: 40) with a formal educational from 1-19 years. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the benefit of a 3-day course of inhaled antibiotics among patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 3 days on the occurrence of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Methods and analysisAcademic, investigator-initiated, parallel two group arms, double-blind, multicentre superiority randomised controlled trial. Patients invasi…
Il consenso del minore al trattamento medico in prospettiva comparatistica: un nuovo soggetto di diritto?
2020
The research analyzes in a comparative perspective the new role recognized to the minor thanks to the juridical relevance of his will with particular reference to some recent jurisprudential rulings both of the Suprême Court, in the English system, and of the Court of Cassation, in the Italian law. In this new perspective, the minor is increasingly considered the centre of imputation of rights and duties and less perceived as a weak subject, whose protection is traditionally entrusted to parents or, in case of their absence, to other substitute figures. In this new approach, the minor seems to play a new juridical subjectivity and his will must be increasingly taken into consideration as i…
Vaccinazione anti COVID-19 e consenso del minore ultrasedicenne
2022
The essays focuses the issue of minor’s informed consent in connection with COVID-19 vaccination in English and Italian legal systems. The starting point in the English legal system is the Gillick competence criterion, in accordance with a well-known on minor’s informed consent, in order to verify the ability of the minor regarding the choice to undergo COVID-19 vaccination. This point of view emerged from English case law, in particular from the UK Supreme Court ruling of 26 September 2019 which strengthened the decision-making autonomy of the minor in balancing with parental authority configuring his possible compression as a deprivation of personal freedom, falling within the scope of th…

Party autonomy regarding jurisdiction under the property regimes regulations
2021
The main accomplishment of the Property Regimes Regulations lies in their bringing more coherence into the cross-border family law adjudication. In the field of international jurisdiction, they strive to align the competence in couples? patrimony disputes to that in succession and in separation proceedings, or else to align the competence of the courts to the applicable law. These tendencies are clearly visible in the Regulations? provisions on choice of court agreements. Namely, the Regulations allow for such agreements, but severely limit parties? choice and the possible effects of these clauses. When succession or separation proceedings are pending, it is often only possible to institute…
