An order-adaptive compact approximation Taylor method for systems of conservation laws
2021
Abstract We present a new family of high-order shock-capturing finite difference numerical methods for systems of conservation laws. These methods, called Adaptive Compact Approximation Taylor (ACAT) schemes, use centered ( 2 p + 1 ) -point stencils, where p may take values in { 1 , 2 , … , P } according to a new family of smoothness indicators in the stencils. The methods are based on a combination of a robust first order scheme and the Compact Approximate Taylor (CAT) methods of order 2p-order, p = 1 , 2 , … , P so that they are first order accurate near discontinuities and have order 2p in smooth regions, where ( 2 p + 1 ) is the size of the biggest stencil in which large gradients are n…
On the modern use of the bòvedas tabicadas
2009
The paper concerns the study of the so-called “bòvedas tabicadas” (i.e. thin vaults constituted by layers of “rasillas” suitably superimposed) based on the results obtained by specific experimental investigations effected on the material of which they are constituted as well as on a vault that is still working. In particular, aim of the present research is the implementation of a first analysis of the structure in its present configuration (often unusable), with the purpose to evaluate the real structure serviceability related to the prescribed intensity of the acting loads, and moreover the execution of a new second analysis of the same structure but suitably reinforced by placing further …
ASPETTI DI SOSTENIBILITÀ NEL RECUPERO DEI TEATRI STORICI
2014
It is well known as the "Italian" historic theater in our country is largely widespread, sufficiently stable in its typological configuration characterized by the stalls area with the boxes rows and the stage with the handling systems of stagecraft, behind a rich facade able to qualify the urban environment. As a result of the recent legislation bills, a number of public and private Italians authorities have begun an intensive recovery, value and protection of the theatrical architectural heritage present in own territories. However several conflicting proposals regarding the way of the maintenance work, highly variable in relation to attitudes brought, on one hand, to privilege stability, …
THE CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINABLE HISTORICAL CENTERS: THE CASE OF ROSETTE, EGYPT
2011
Historical centers of many Egyptian cities managed to survive as living cities in spite of physical decline and economic depression. Their fabric carries out the spiritual and cultural messages that communicate with their present citizens. The heritage of these historic city centers are not only Material character, but much more. Generally, the conservation of historic centers is fundamentally different from conservation of single monument. While a single monument can be kept on a chosen state of evolution, the historic centers cannot be preserved in particular state “with exception of the small areas conserved for tourist purposes”. The historic centers, as living cities must meet the vary…

This essays, on the area of Madonie, aims to create conditions for training and/or business for the conservation of goods and it's sustainable management; to plan naturalistic routes for tourists for its enhancement
Theoretical construct, method and working tool of the "preventive restoration". The electronic book for the prearranged maintenance of architectural …
2016
A restoration may constitute a positive moment to guarantee the conservation, transmission and a compatible use of an historical architecture, but it is often the result of a long and guilty omission of care, attesting a lack of interest in the architectural heritage we are late forced to heal with extensive and invasive interventions that, in most cases, could be prevented. Clear maintenance programs and a correct and well-planned preventive action could be sufficient to avoid unexpected interventions when it is too late; such simple concepts - apparently shared by everyone - however, remain relegated to a level of brainy attitudes or protocols that do not produce any advantage in terms of…
