Asymmetry of gait after free flap reconstruction of severe tibial fractures with extensive soft-tissue damage.

Gait patterns of the preferred speed were investigated on 17 patients recovering (9 months-14 years) after reconstruction of severe tibial fractures. A novel data-acquisition system was used to record the plantar pressures as well as electromyographic (EMG) activities during walking. The results indicated incomplete recovery of symmetrical gait patterns. In particular, the duration of the stance phase was shorter on the operated side (mean (SD) 701 (90) ms compared with 765 (128) ms, p < 0.001). Abstract Background The aim of this paper was to evaluate the outcomes of a homogenous series of emergency with a toe-to-hand transfer reconstructions with a different timing: immediate (same surgical step with the debridement), primary (in the first 24 h), early (24–72 h after the debridement) or delayed (72 h-7 days). Materials and methods Between 2001 and 2011, 31 patients received an immediate reconstruction with a toe-to-hand transfer. Summary The nasolabial skin is the ideal donor site for nasal ala reconstruction. The classic techniques involve a two-stage procedure to reconstruct an aesthetically pleasing nasal ala. A one-stage technique for reconstruction of the nasal ala with a free style nasolabial perforator flap is presented in this article. Free vascularized fibular flap is considered the treatment of choice in mandibular reconstruction for extensive bone defects (over 6 centimeters) resulting from trauma, infections or tumor resections. But, when the reconstruction involves a dentate mandible, the fibula has the limit as it does not offer sufficient bone height to restore the alveolar arch up to the occlusal plane. Therefore, the deficiency in bone height makes implant placement impractical.
