State of the art of CPMAS 13C-NMR spectroscopy applied to natural organic matter

2004

A number of different techniques are presently available for characterizing humified natural organic matter (NOM). Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C-NMR) in the solid state using cross-polarization (CP) and magic angle spinning (MAS) represents the most powerful experimental approach used to collect direct information on the structural and conformational characteristics of humic carbon backbones. Despite the problems due to the presence of paramagnetic impurities and the generally low organic matter concentration, cross-polarization magic angle spinning 13C-NMR spectroscopy (CPMAS 13C-NMR) is applied in soil chemistry and geochemistry mainly because of its relevance in …

Supination control increases performance in sideward cutting movements in tennis.

2013

The objective of this study was to explore the effects of tennis shoe characteristics on performance during sideward cutting movements followed by direction changes. Five tennis players (age = 21.5 +/- 0.8 years, mass = 75.2 +/- 2.8 kg, and height = 1.78 +/- 0.05 m) participated in the study and 10 tennis shoes were tested. Several footwear mechanical parameters were analyzed: Shore A hardness, longitudinal and transverse flexibility, midsole height at heel, presence of heel counters, and weight. A force plate was used to measure the kinetic variables, and two video cameras were used to perform a three-dimensional photogrammetric analysis. Results revealed that subject-footwear interaction …

Nuclear Contact Times in Dissipative Heavy Ion Collsions Measured Via γ-Ray Spectroscopy

1987

Electron spectra have been measured for elastic and dissipative U + Au collisions at 8.6 MeV/u and analysed within a simple schematic model which describes γ-ray emission in the presence of a nuclear contact time and a total kinetic energy loss (TKEL). A nearly linear dependence of the mean nuclear contact time τ and TKEL was found, reaching τ = 1.1 * 10-21 s with a variance σ = ±0.4 * 10-21 s for a TKEL of (400 ± 50) MeV.

Effects of marathon fatigue on running kinematics and economy

2007

International audience; The influence of marathon fatigue on both running kinematics and economy was investigated with 8 subjects. The measurements included a treadmill test at 3 steady submaximal speeds performed before and after the marathon. One complete left leg cycle was videotaped at 100 Hz from the left side at each speed. The analysis included contact time (braking and push-off') and flight time as well as displacements and angular velocities of the left hip and knee. This analysis was complemented by the measurements of the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the gastrocnemius muscle at each running velocity, and energy expenditure (E) of the last 30.s at the 2 slowest speeds. The …

Factores de rendimiento en el desplazamiento del tenista influenciados por el calzado. (Performance factors on tennis player displacements influenced…

2009
