Abstract The tourism experience was perceived traditionally in terms of products, destinations and consumption patterns. The “new mobility turn” sees the holiday experience as “performance”, “surveillance”, “play”, relationships “at-a-distance”, the impermanence of “sandcastles”, place making, etc. Gale (2007) stated five principles of this turn in tourism: it studies the mobility of individuals; it acknowledges material and immaterial structures; it deals with immobility and power relations; it recognizes virtual and imaginative forms of mobility; and it is concerned with environmental and global consequences. When Investment in Basic Skills Gives Negative Returns

In recent years, the Norwegian government has invested heavily in improving basic skills in the adult population. Initiatives have included legislation, the introduction of work-based adult education programs, and reforms in schooling. In light of this investment, we explore trends in adult literacy and numeracy, by comparing data from two international surveys of adult skills, conducted in 2003 and 2012. Paradoxically, the proportion of low-performing adults appears to have increased, most significantly in the 16- to 24-year age group and in the foreign-born population. Global Communication with Icons in Environmental Contexts

Icons are small signs with fixed meanings. Icons are usually context specific. For example in the context of a hotel, the client can often find icons in hotel room books and safety guides. Scandic Hotel chain, for example, currently provides the manual for its safety system in 14 languages. There are at least two major shortcomings of this system: (1) in emergency or panic situations, it is very difficult to find your own language from the leaflet, and (2) there are no Asian languages. Search for photons with energies above 1018 eV using the hybrid detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

A search for ultra-high energy photons with energies above 1 EeV is performed using nine years of data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory in hybrid operation mode. An unprecedented separation power between photon and hadron primaries is achieved by combining measurements of the longitudinal air-shower development with the particle content at ground measured by the fluorescence and surface detectors, respectively. Only three photon candidates at energies 1-2 EeV are found, which is compatible with the expected hadron-induced background. This paper proposes a novel approach for building transparent knowledge-based systems by generating interpretable fuzzy rules that allow for present dependences between quantitative variables by accounting for uncertainty and the dynamics of their values. In the approach, IF-THEN rules are used to show the conditional relationship between the ordered fuzzy numbers, which contain additional information about the tendencies of variables' value changes.
