Status and Prospects of Kanki : An Open Source Cross-Platform Native iRODS Client Application

The current state of development of project Kanki is discussed and some prospects for future development are laid out with reflection on the results of the research IT infrastructure project at the University of Jyväskylä. Kanki is a crossplatform native iRODS client application which was introduced to the iRODS community at the iRODS Users Group Meeting in 2015, and later released as open source. A total of 9 releases have been made, from which the latest 6 have been available in addition to the source code as pre-built binary packages for x86-64 CentOS Linux 6/7 and OS X 10.10+. Whether politics is a separate sphere or an aspect of human action is a subject of academic controversy. I focus here on the political aspect of action, which is not exclusive of other aspects. There are no ‘naturally political’ issues nor is there anything completely devoid of a political aspect. I am now taking a step backwards to discuss the seemingly simple ‘political or not’ question, as compared to the ‘political in which sense’ question, which I have discussed elsewhere. Coincidence and common fixed points of weakly reciprocally continuous and compatible hybrid mappings via an implicit relation and an application

Using the hybrid version of the notion of weakly reciprocal continuous mappings due to Gairola et al. [Coincidence and fixed point for weakly reciprocally continuous single-valued and multi-valued maps, Demonstratio Math. (2013/2014), accepted], we prove a coincidence and common fixed point theorem for a hybrid pair of compatible mappings via an implicit relation. Our main result improves and generalizes a host of previously known theorems. As an application, we give a homotopy theorem which supports our main result.
Teachers as learners : a qualitative exploration of pre-service and in-service teachers’ continuous learning community OpenDigi

This study explores pre-service and in-service teachers’ experiences in working as a learning community. Pre-service teachers (N = 60) and teacher educators (N = 9) from a Finnish university and in-service teachers (N = 27) from four local comprehensive schools worked together over six months. The teachers-as-learners continuous learning model was created and implemented in practice. The participants’ written reflections were collected to explore what they learned, what challenges they experienced and how they would further develop the model. 23 GHz VLBI observations of SN 2008ax (Research Note)

We report on phase-referenced 23 GHz Very-Long-Baseline-Interferometry (VLBI) observations of the type IIb supernova SN 2008ax, made with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) on 2 April 2008 (33 days after explosion). These observations resulted in a marginal detection of the supernova. The total flux density recovered from our VLBI image is 0.8 ± 0.3 mJy (one standard deviation). As it appears, the structure may be interpreted as either a core-jet or a double source. However, the supernova structure could be somewhat confused with a possible close by noise peak. In such a case, the recovered flux density would decrease to 0.48 ± 0.12 mJy, compatible with the flux densities measured with the…

Relativistic jets in active galactic nuclei represent one of the most powerful phenomena in the Universe. They form in the surroundings of the supermassive black holes as a by-product of accretion onto the central black hole in active galaxies. The flow in the jets propagates at velocities close to the speed of light. The distance between the first part of the jet that is visible in radio images (core) and the black hole is still a matter of debate. Only very-long-baseline interferometry observations resolve the innermost compact regions of the radio jet.
