Characterization of major discontinuities from borehole cores of the black consolidated marl formation of Draix (French Alps)
2012
A quantitative description of rock discontinuities present in subsurface cores that were drilled (down to 20 m) in the marls of the Laval and Moulin catchments near Draix (France) is presented. Three kinds of discontinuities are studied: those fully open, those open but filled with clay rich material and those sealed with calcite. With a laser profiler, the topography of facing sides of typical discontinuities was measured with a normal resolution of 1 µm. The probability distribution of the elevation of each surface are obtained and shown to be normal. Possible self-affine scaling invariance of the topography were explored. The mineralogical content of an interface between the marl bulk an…
Uniqueness and reconstruction for the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement
2020
We show global uniqueness in the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement and with data on arbitrary, possibly disjoint subsets of the exterior. The previous work \cite{GhoshSaloUhlmann} considered the case of infinitely many measurements. The method is again based on the strong uniqueness properties for the fractional equation, this time combined with a unique continuation principle from sets of measure zero. We also give a constructive procedure for determining an unknown potential from a single exterior measurement, based on constructive versions of the unique continuation result that involve different regularization schemes.
A characterization of Hajłasz–Sobolev and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces via grand Littlewood–Paley functions
2010
Abstract In this paper, we establish the equivalence between the Hajlasz–Sobolev spaces or classical Triebel–Lizorkin spaces and a class of grand Triebel–Lizorkin spaces on Euclidean spaces and also on metric spaces that are both doubling and reverse doubling. In particular, when p ∈ ( n / ( n + 1 ) , ∞ ) , we give a new characterization of the Hajlasz–Sobolev spaces M ˙ 1 , p ( R n ) via a grand Littlewood–Paley function.
Senso
2015
The book analyzes Senso, the story by Camillo Boito (also republishing the text) and the movie taken from it by Luchino Visconti; and it deals with the complex relationship between literature and cinema.

Refining sorafenib therapy: lessons from clinical practice
2015
ABSTRACT Understanding the best use of sorafenib is essential in order to maximize clinical benefit in hepatocellular carcinoma. Based on Phase III and noninterventional study data, as well as our extensive experience, we discuss dose modification in order to manage adverse events, disease response evaluation and how to maximize treatment benefit. Sorafenib should be initiated at the approved dose (400 mg twice daily) and reduced/interrupted as appropriate in order to manage adverse events. Dose modification should be considered before discontinuation. Appropriate tumor response assessment is critical. Focusing on radiologic response may result in premature sorafenib discontinuation; symp…
Sexual, bladder and bowel function following different minimally invasive techniques of radical hysterectomy in patients with early-stage cervical ca…
2021
Abstract Purpose Despite the establishment of radical surgery for therapy of cervical cancer, data on quality of life and patient-reported outcomes are scarce. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate bladder, bowel and sexual function in women who underwent minimally invasive surgery for early-stage cervical cancer. Methods From 2007–2013, 261 women underwent laparoscopically assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy (LARVH = 45), vaginally assisted laparoscopic or robotic radical hysterectomy (VALRRH = 61) or laparoscopic total mesometrial resection (TMMR = 25) and 131 of them completed the validated German version of the Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (PFQ). Results …
The Porto European Cancer Research Summit 2021.
2021
Key stakeholders from the cancer research continuum met in May 2021 at the European Cancer Research Summit in Porto to discuss priorities and specific action points required for the successful implementation of the European Cancer Mission and Europe's Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP). Speakers presented a unified view about the need to establish high‐quality, networked infrastructures to decrease cancer incidence, increase the cure rate, improve patient's survival and quality of life, and deal with research and care inequalities across the European Union (EU). These infrastructures, featuring Comprehensive Cancer Centres (CCCs) as key components, will integrate care, prevention and research acros…
Trabectedin-Related Liver Toxicity in Soft Tissue Sarcoma Patients: Always a Good Reason to Discontinue the Treatment?
2014
ABSTRACT Aim: A transient increase in liver enzymes is a well described side effect developed by almost 40% of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients treated with trabectedin, often leading to treatment delays or discontinuation. We retrospectively analysed the correlation between trabectedin-related liver toxicity and treatment outcome. Methods: Data from a total of 113 patients receiving trabectedin administered at the dose of 1.5 mg/m2 iv 24 hours in 3 reference centers were evaluated. This exploratory analysis was performed to assess the impact of liver toxicity (grade 3-4 AST and ALT increases) on the trabectedin efficacy and outcome in STS patients. All the patients included had metastati…
Guidelines for Long-Term Follow-Up after Childhood Cancer: Practical Implications for the Daily Work
2019
<b><i>Background:</i></b> Many childhood cancer survivors develop treatment-associated late effects emerging years or even decades after the end of treatment. Evidence-based guidelines recommend risk-adapted screening, facilitating early diagnosis and management of these sequelae. Long-term follow-up (LTFU) in specialized late effects clinics is devised to implement screening recommendations in the care of childhood cancer survivors. <b><i>Objectives:</i></b> To create a practical LTFU tool for the daily practice. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Current guidelines and screening recommendations concerning LTFU in adult survivors …
