Monotone cubic spline interpolation for functions with a strong gradient

2021

Abstract Spline interpolation has been used in several applications due to its favorable properties regarding smoothness and accuracy of the interpolant. However, when there exists a discontinuity or a steep gradient in the data, some artifacts can appear due to the Gibbs phenomenon. Also, preservation of data monotonicity is a requirement in some applications, and that property is not automatically verified by the interpolator. Hence, some additional techniques have to be incorporated so as to ensure monotonicity. The final interpolator is not actually a spline as C 2 regularity and monotonicity are not ensured at the same time. In this paper, we study sufficient conditions to obtain monot…

Approximation properties of q-Kantorovich-Stancu operator

2015

In this paper we study some properties of Kantorovich-type generalizations of the q-Stancu operators. We obtain some approximation properties for these operators, estimating the rate of convergence by using the first and second modulus of continuity. Also, we investigate the statistical approximation properties of the q-Kantorovich-Stancu operators using the Korovkin-type statistical approximation theorem.

Effects of cyber domain in crisis management

2019

There is fundamental need in EU-level to develop common alarm procedures and emergency response models with preventive functions which work well from local to national level and from national to international level. European Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) services such as law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical and disaster recovery services have recognized that lack of interoperability of technical systems limits cooperation between the PPDR authorities. Also, the military (MIL) and critical infrastructure protection (CIP) faces similar challenges. Recent major accidents have indicated that lack of human resources affects to disaster recovery. PPDR-actors cannot star…

La vida cotidiana de los vecinos de Manila a través de sus testamentos e inventarios de bienes

2019

With the general objective indicated in its title, this work tries to highlight relevant aspects in the continuity of the Spanish domain in the Philippines, dependent on the maintenance of the Spanish capital. The inevitable selection of topics has lead the preferences of this work towards the residents collaboration to defend the city, the conversion of many of them into traders of exotic products and singular slaves owners, and their collaboration to an incredible miscegenation due to the ethnic variety. On the other hand, to follow the footsteps of the first generation of residents in Manila, at the end of the 16th century and during the 17th century, this work gives us some information …

Pressure-flow dynamics with semi-stable limit cycles in hydraulic cylinder circuits

2021

In hydraulic circuits of the standard fluid-power actuators and mechanisms, like the linear-stroke cylinders, some hydrodynamic effects are often neglected. It happens mainly due to their complexity and secondariness in comparison with the principal transient and steady-state behavior of the hydromechanical process variables, such as the differential pressure and relative displacement and its rate, in other words the piston stroke and velocity. However, a constrained motion of the cylinder piston can give rise to the back coupled excitation of the pressure-flow dynamics, especially upon mechanical impact at the cylinder limits. Following to that, semi-stable limit cycles can arise while the…

Continuity equation and local gauge invariance for the N3LO nuclear energy density functionals

2011

Background: The next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) nuclear energy density functional extends the standard Skyrme functional with new terms depending on higher-order derivatives of densities, introduced to gain better precision in the nuclear many-body calculations. A thorough study of the transformation properties of the functional with respect to different symmetries is required, as a step preliminary to the adjustment of the coupling constants. Purpose: Determine to which extent the presence of higher-order derivatives in the functional can be compatible with the continuity equation. In particular, to study the relations between the validity of the continuity equation and invari…

The multiple slope discontinuity beam element for nonlinear analysis of RC framed structures

2018

The seismic nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures permits to identify critical zones of an existing structure and to better plan its rehabilitation process. It is obtained by performing finite element analysis using numerical models classifiable into two categories: lumped plasticity models and distributed plasticity models. The present work is devoted to the implementation, in a finite element environment, of an elastoplastic Euler–Bernoulli beam element showing possible slope discontinuities at any position along the beam span, in the framework of a modified lumped plasticity. The differential equation of an Euler–Bernoulli beam element under static loads in presence of mul…

Muon capture in deuterium and the meson exchange current effect

1990

Abstract One-meson exchange current effect in reaction μ − + d → 2 n + v μ is calculated by using the weak axial current operator which satisfies the nuclear continuity equation up to the order 1 M 2 ( M is the nucleon mass). In the vector part of the weak nuclear interaction the vector-isovector pion exchange currents are also included. Their contribution is found to be non-negligible. The nuclear wave functions are generated from the Paris, Reid soft-core and Bonn potential models. Our result is compatible with the previous one, obtained with only the static axial exchange currents included.

Temporal and spatial persistence of combustion fronts in paper

2003

The spatial and temporal persistence, or first-return distributions are measured for slow-combustion fronts in paper. The stationary temporal and (perhaps less convincingly) spatial persistence exponents agree with the predictions based on the front dynamics, which asymptotically belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. The stationary short-range and the transient behavior of the fronts are non-Markovian, and the observed persistence properties thus do not agree with the predictions based on Markovian theory. This deviation is a consequence of additional time and length scales, related to the crossovers to the asymptotic coarse-grained behavior. Peer reviewed

CONDENSATE FRACTION IN THE DYNAMIC STRUCTURE FUNCTION OF BOSE FLUIDS

2007

We present results on the behavior of the dynamic structure function in the short wave length limit using the equation of motion method. The one-body continuity equation defines the self-energy, which becomes a functional of the fluctuating two-body correlation function. We evaluate the self-energy in this limit and show that sum rules up to the second moment, which requires the self-energy in the short wave length limit and zero frequency to be proportional to the kinetic energy per particle, are exactly satisfied. We compare our results with the impulse approximation and calculate the condensate fraction. An analytic expression for the momentum distribution is also derived.
