Design and realization of a portable multichannel continuous wave fNIRS

A design and implementation of a portable functional Near InfraRed Spectroscopy embedded system prototype is described. In this theoretical and experimental work, we present an embedded system hosting 64 LED sources and 128 Silicon PhotoMultiplier detectors (SiPM). The elementary part of the structure is a flexible probe “leaf” consisting of 16 SiPMs, 4 couples of LEDs, each operating at two wavelengths, and a temperature sensor. The hardware system is based on an ARM main microcontroller that allows to perform both the switching time of LEDs and the acquisition of the SiPM outputs. Abstract A combined swept-current magnetic lens plus Si(Li) electron spectrometer with simultaneous momentum and energy selection is presented. The spectrometer is intended for in-beam measurements of conversion electron lines up to several MeV in energy and for nanosecond lifetime determinations, as well as for off-beam studies of continuous beta-ray spectra and conversion lines from short-lived activities. The sweeping of the lens current is automatized and the energy selection, synchronously with the momentum, is performed using a simple digital window arrangement. Influence of plasticizers and cryogenic grinding on the high-cooling-rate solidification behavior of PBT/PET blends

Two structurally different plasticizers (cyclic and linear) and the effect of cryogenic grinding on the solidification behavior at high cooling rates by a continuous cooling transformation approach of poly(butylene terephthalate)/poly(ethylene terephthalate), PBT/PET, blends are described. The solidification curve (density versus cooling rate) is confirmed as an effective tool to compare the differences in crystallization behavior under conditions mimicking processing. In comparison to the bulky cyclic plasticizer, the linear oligomeric one was found to have a more pronounced influence on the crystallization behavior. Spiking dynamics of frequency up-converted field generated in continuous-wave excited rubidium vapours

We report on spiking dynamics of frequency up-converted emission at 420 nm generated on the 6P3/2-5S1/2 transition in Rb vapour two-photon excited to the 5D5/2 level with laser light at 780 and 776 nm. The spike duration is less than the natural lifetime of any excited level involved in the interaction with both continuous and pulsed pump radiation. The spikes at 420 nm are attributed to temporal properties of the directional emission at 5.23 {\mu}m generated on the population inverted 5D5/2-6P3/2 transition. Hydrodynamics of a three-phase fixed-bed reactor operating in the pulsing flow regime at an elevated pressure

Abstract Results are presented for a three-phase reactor operating at an elevated pressure in the pulsing flow regime. For the system air–water and pressures of 0.1– 0.9 MPa lines are determined that define the change of the hydrodynamic model from the gas continuous flow regime (GCF) to the pulsing flow regime (PF). Also, parameters are found that characterize the pulsing flow of fluids, namely the velocity of pulses travelling along the bed, the frequency of pulsations and their structure, i.e., the length of the pulses and that of the liquid-rich zone.
Discontinuous FRP-Confinement of Masonry Columns

Recent seismic events, all over the world, demonstrated that masonry constructions are prone to brittle collapses when shear or compression capacity is reached. It is clear that, in many real cases, masonry columns need to be strengthened for enhancing their load-carrying capacity and to develop a more ductile response. The Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) confinement of masonry columns is a well-known technique that may produce these advantages. Polychromatic, continuous-wave mirrorless lasing from monochromatic pumping of cesium vapor

We report on studies of simultaneous continuous-wave mirrorless lasing on multiple optical transitions, realized by pumping hot cesium vapor with laser light resonant with the 6$S_{1/2}\rightarrow 8$P$_{3/2}$ transition. The multiplicity of decay paths for the excited atoms to their ground state is responsible for the emergence of lasing in a number of transitions, observed here in at least seven wavelengths in the infrared (IR), and at two wavelengths in the blue. We study the properties of the fields generated in the cesium vapor, such as optical power, directionality and optical linewidth.

A new type of ECR ion source—a gasdynamic ECR ion source—has been recently developed at the Institute of Applied Physics. The main advantages of such device are extremely high ion beam current with a current density up to 600–700 emA/cm2 in combination with low emittance, i.e., normalized RMS emittance below 0.1 π mm mrad. Previous investigations were carried out in pulsed operation with 37.5 or 75 GHz gyrotron radiation with power up to 100 kW at SMIS 37 experimental facility. The present work demonstrates the first experience of operating the gasdynamic ECR ion source in CW mode. Ultrasonic detection by photo-EMF sensor and by wideband air-coupled transducer

Two non-contact remote ultrasonic detection systems are compared. The first consists of a continuous wave (CW) Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 532 nm used in conjunction with a photo-induced electromotive-force (EMF) sensor. The second system employs an air-coupled capacitance transducer that has a bandwidth from 100 kHz up to 2 MHz. Both systems exhibit higher sensitivity to out-of-plane than in-plane measurements of stress wave signals. Ultrasound generation is carried out by an Nd:YAG pulsed laser at 532 nm in the thermoelastic regime in a 1.6 mm aluminum plate.
