Manipulating dissipative soliton ensembles in passively mode-locked fiber lasers
2014
International audience; We review our recent experimental and theoretical results addressing the dynamics of large numbers of solitons interacting in presence of a background in passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber lasers. We first characterize experimentally the soliton rain complex dynamics, and then we focus on ordered soliton patterns. We report that, for suitable experimental parameters, a continuous wave can impose harmonic mode locking. Two levels of modeling for a mode-locked laser subjected to the external injection of a continuous wave are developed to support the latter observation. The first one is based on a scalar master equation, while the second one takes into account th…
Sodium vapor cell laser guide star experiments for continuous wave model validation
2016
Recent numerical simulations and experiments on sodium Laser Guide Star (LGS) have shown that a continuous wave (CW) laser with circular polarization and re-pumping should maximize the fluorescent photon return flux to the wavefront sensor for adaptive optics applications. The orientation and strength of the geomagnetic field in the sodium layer also play an important role affecting the LGS return ux. Field measurements of the LGS return flux show agreement with the CW LGS model, however, fluctuations in the sodium column abundance and geomagnetic field intensity, as well as atmospheric turbulence, induce experimental uncertainties. We describe a laboratory experiment to measure the photon …
Real-time optical spectrum analyzers operating with spectrally incoherent broadband continuous-wave light source
2007
On the framework of coherence theory we discuss the averaged temporal intensity output provided by real-time optical Fourier transformers when the spectral line shape of the stationary source is considered. Some numerical examples are given and the deviations from perfectly monochromatic sources are pointed out.
High-order simulation scheme for active particles driven by stress boundary conditions
2020
Abstract We study the dynamics and interactions of elliptic active particles in a two dimensional solvent. The particles are self-propelled through prescribing a fluid stress at one half of the fluid-particle boundary. The fluid is treated explicitly solving the Stokes equation through a discontinuous Galerkin scheme, which allows to simulate strictly incompressible fluids. We present numerical results for a single particle and give an outlook on how to treat suspensions of interacting active particles.

Experimental generation of high-contrast Talbot images with an ultrashort laser pulse
2008
A femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser oscillator emitting pulses with 800 nm central wavelength, 10.9 fs pulse width, and 75 MHz repetition rate, combined with a dispersion-compensated diffractive system, was used to implement a large-area, high-contrast, broadband optical interference technique based on the Talbot effect. Chromatic artifacts associated with the huge spectrum of the optical source (approximately 150 nm) are compensated for with an air-separated hybrid diffractive-refractive lens doublet. The spatial resolution of the chromatically compensated Talbot images under femtosecond illumination is nearly identical to that achieved under continuous wave monochromatic illumination. Further…
Waveguides. Radiation Principle. Scattering Matrices
2021
Chapter 2 exposes a mathematical model of a waveguide with several cylindrical ends going to infinity, basic notions and mathematical results (with complete proofs) needed in successive chapters: waves, continuous spectrum eigenfunctions, intrinsic radiation principle, and scattering matrices.
Noise fiber lasers
2021
In this paper, we present a brief review of the noise operation mode of fiber lasers. These lasers were studied recently by collaborative group that includes researchers, professors, and Ph.D. students from the Centro de Investigaciones en Optica, A.C. (Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico) and from the Universidad de Valencia (Valencia, Spain). Meanwhile, the pioneer works in this topic important for understanding the physics behind fiber lasers’ operation and for practical applications were done with the active participation of Dr. Evgeny Kuzin from the Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica (Puebla, Mexico) and Dr. Georgina Beltrán-Pérez from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de P…
Asymptotic structure factor for the two-component Ginzburg-Landau equation
1992
We derive an analytic form for the asymptotic time-dependent structure factor for the two-component Ginzburg-Landau equation in arbitrary dimensions. This form is in reasonable agreement with results from numerical simulations in two dimensions. A striking feature of our analytic form is the absence of Porod's law in the tail. This is a consequence of the continuous symmetry of the Hamiltonian, which inhibits the formation of sharp domain walls.
A Model for Carbon Macrosegregation
1988
In this paper we present models for calculating temperature distribution and macrosegregations for solidification problem in continuous casting of steel. Numerical examples illustrate the importance of liquid flow as a cause for segregations.
