Vacancy-like Dressed States in Topological Waveguide QED

We identify a class of dressed atom-photon states formingat the same energy of the atom at any coupling strength. As a hallmark, their photonic component is an eigenstate of the bare photonic bath with a vacancy in place of the atom. The picture accommodates waveguide-QED phenomena where atoms behave as perfect mirrors, connecting in particular dressed bound states (BS) in the continuum or BIC with geometrically-confined photonic modes. When applied to photonic lattices, the framework provides a general criterion to predict dressed BS in lattices with topological properties by putting them in one-to-one correspondence with photonic BS. Discrete spectral incoherent solitons in nonlinear media with noninstantaneous response

International audience; We show theoretically that nonlinear optical media characterized by a finite response time may support the existence of discrete spectral incoherent solitons. The structure of the soliton consists of three incoherent spectral bands that propagate in frequency space toward the low-frequency components in a discrete fashion and with a constant velocity. Discrete spectral incoherent solitons do not exhibit a confinement in the space-time domain, but exclusively in the frequency domain. Filament sets and decompositions of homogeneous continua

Abstract This paper applies the concepts introduced in the article: Filament sets and homogeneous continua [J.R. Prajs, K. Whittington, Filament sets and homogeneous continua, Topology Appl. 154 (8) (2007) 1581–1591, doi:10.1016/j.topol.2006.12.005 ] to decompositions of homogeneous continua. Several new or strengthened results on aposyndesis are given. Newly defined decompositions are discussed. A proposed classification scheme for homogeneous continua is shown to be mostly invariant under Jones' aposyndetic decomposition.

Models for supercontinuum generation beyond the slowly-varying-envelope approximation

International audience; We show numerically that both the modified Korteweg–de Vries and the sine-Gordon models are conducive to the generation of supercontinua with spectral bandwidths of several octaves, when an intense short pulse is launched as the initial condition. These models beyond the slowly-varying-envelope approximation could play an important role in modeling supercontinuum generation in gas-filled hollow waveguides.

Thelodonts are an enigmatic group of Paleozoic jawless vertebrates that have been well studied from taxonomical, biostratigraphic and paleogeographic points of view, although our knowledge of their ecology and mode of life is still scant. Salinity and periodic inundation are both known to have a major role in shaping the ecohydrology of mangroves through their controls on water uptake, photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, gas-exchanges and nutrient availability. A versatile bioreactor suitable for dynamic suspension cell culture under tunable shear stress conditions has been developed and preliminarily tested culturing cancer cell spheroids. Particularly at a Knudsen number (Kn) of >0.1, which is applied in filtration, it has been reported that not even slip boundary conditions can be applied.
