Robust control of stochastic systems against bounded disturbances with application to flight control

This paper investigates the problems of state observer design and observer-based integral sliding-mode control (SMC) for a class of Itô stochastic systems subject to simultaneous input and output disturbances. A new type of sliding-mode-based descriptor observer method is developed to approximate the system state and disturbance vectors. An integral-type SMC scheme is proposed based on the state estimation to stabilize the overall system. Robust Predictive Control of a variable speed wind turbine using the LMI formalism

This paper proposes a Robust Fuzzy Multivariable Model Predictive Controller (RFMMPC) using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) formulation. The main idea is to solve at each time instant, an LMI optimization problem that incorporates input, output and Constrained Receding Horizon Predictive Control (CRHPC) constraints, and plant uncertainties, and guarantees certain robustness properties. The RFMMPC is easily designed by solving a convex optimization problem subject to LMI conditions. Then, the derived RFMMPC applied to a variable wind turbine with blade pitch and generator torque as two control inputs. The effectiveness of the proposed design is shown by simulation results.

Heuristic-Based Shiftable Loads Optimal Management in Smart Micro-Grids

In this paper, an optimal power dispatch problem on a 24-h basis for distribution systems with distributed energy resources (DER) also including directly controlled shiftable loads is presented. In the literature, the optimal energy management problems in smart grids (SGs) where such types of loads exist are formulated using integer or mixed integer variables. Fuzzy predictive controller design using ant colony optimization algorithm

In this paper, an approach for designing an adaptive fuzzy model predictive control (AFMPC) based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is studied. On-line adaptive fuzzy identification is used to identify the system parameters. These parameters are used to calculate the objective function based on predictive approach and structure of RST control. The optimization problem is solved based on an ACO algorithm, used at the optimization process in AFMPC to calculate a sequence of future RST control actions. Energy and Network Models for the Intelligent Control of Distributed Systems

This paper presents detailed energy and network models for the intelligent control of a distributed system which also comprises power generation from renewables. The two models provide interactive energy monitoring, intelligent control and power demand balancing at home, block and neighbor level. Particularly, it is here described how the energy model works and also details of how it has been validated are here given. Moreover, it is shown how the energy model simulation results are transferred to the network simulation software SynerGEE, set up by GL Noble Denton Industrial Services Ltd (UK), in order to fully perform network simulations.

NARX Models of an Industrial Power Plant Gas Turbine

This brief reports the experience with the identification of a nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous inputs (NARX) model for the PGT10B1 power plant gas turbine manufactured by General Electric-Nuovo Pignone. Two operating conditions of the turbine are considered: isolated mode and nonisolated mode. The NARX model parameters are estimated iteratively with a Gram-Schmidt procedure, exploiting both forward and stepwise regression. Design and Sensitivity Analysis of a Reduced-Order Rotor Flux Optimal Observer for Induction Motor Control

This paper aims to give simple and effective design criteria of rotor flux reduced-order observers for motion control systems with induction motors. While the observer is optimized for rotor and stator resistance variations, a sensitivity analysis is carried out in the presence of variations of all the motor parameters by means of either transfer function from true to observed rotor flux or simulation in a MATLAB-SIMULINK environment, assuming the voltages supplying the motor to be different from those supplying the observer. Risk Assessment of a compound feed process based on HAZOP analysis and linguistic terms

In this paper, a methodology for risk assessment in industrial plants, based on the combination of risks identification through the Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) analysis and the risks evaluation through linguistic variables and fuzzy numbers is applied to a case study consisting on a compound feed plant located in the town of Silla (Valencia, Spain). Linear parameter‐varying modelling and control of an offshore wind turbine with constrained information

This study deals with linear parameter-varying modelling and output-feedback H ∞ control design for an offshore wind turbine. The controller is designed with consideration that not all the information in the feedback loop will be used. This constraint is incorporated into the design procedure. Constrained information means that a special zero-non-zero pattern is forced upon the gain matrix. Feasibility issues in static output-feedback controller design with application to structural vibration control
