Sensorless Control of Induction-Motor Drive Based on Robust Kalman Filter and Adaptive Speed Estimation
2014
This paper deals with robust estimation of rotor flux and speed for sensorless control of motion control systems with an induction motor. Instead of using sixth-order extended Kalman filters (EKFs), rotor flux is estimated by means of a fourth-order descriptor-type robust KF, which explicitly takes into account motor parameter uncertainties, whereas the speed is estimated using a recursive least squares algorithm starting from the knowledge of the rotor flux itself. It is shown that the descriptor-type structure allows for a direct translation of parameter uncertainties into variations of the coefficients appearing in the model, and this improves the degree of robustness of the estimates. E…
HIERARCHICAL MELTING OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL INCOMMENSURATE STRUCTURES
2016
We study the low—temperature properties of quasi one—dimensional, incommensurate structures which are described by a Frenkel—Kontorova—like model. A new type of renormalization method will be presented, which is determined by the continued fraction expansion of the incommensurability ratio ζ. (This method yields a hierarchy of renormalized Hamiltonians ϰ(n,p) describing the thermal behavior for temperatures T = O(T(n,p)), where T(n,p) follows from the continued fraction expansion of ζ. By means of this method the low—temperature specific heat c(T) and the static structure factor S(q) are calculated for fixed ζ. c(T) possesses a hierarchy of Schottky anomalies related to the rational approxi…
Images perceived after chromatic or achromatic contrast sensitivity losses.
2010
Purpose. We simulate how subjects with losses in chromatic and achromatic contrast sensitivity perceive colored images by using the spatiochromatic corresponding pair algorithm. Methods. This is a generalized version of the algorithm by Capilla et al. (J Opt Soc Am (A) 2004;21:176 –186) for simulating color perception of color deviant subjects, which incorporates a simple spatial vision model, consisting of a linear filtering stage, with a band-pass achromatic filter and two low-pass chromatic ones, for the red-green and blue-yellow mechanisms. These filters, except for the global scaling, are the subject’s contrast sensitivity functions measured along the cardinal directions of the color s…
Parallel Genetic Algorithms for the Tuning of a Fuzzy AQM Controller
2003
This paper presents the results of the application of a parallel Genetic Algorithm (GA) in order to design a Fuzzy Proportional Integral (FPI) controller for active queue management on Internet routers. The Active Queue Management (AQM) policies are those policies of router queue management that allow the detection of network congestion, the notification of such occurrences to the hosts on the network borders, and the adoption of a suitable control policy. Two different parallel implementations of the genetic algorithm are adopted to determine an optimal configuration of the FPI controller parameters. Finally, the results of several experiments carried out on a forty nodes cluster of workst…
Classification of SD-OCT Volumes for DME Detection: An Anomaly Detection Approach
2016
International audience; Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is the leading cause of blindness amongst diabetic patients worldwide. It is characterized by accumulation of water molecules in the macula leading to swelling. Early detection of the disease helps prevent further loss of vision. Naturally, automated detection of DME from Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) volumes plays a key role. To this end, a pipeline for detecting DME diseases in OCT volumes is proposed in this paper. The method is based on anomaly detection using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). It starts with pre-processing the B-scans by resizing, flattening, filtering and extracting features from them. Both intensity and Local Binar…
Hidden attractors in dynamical models of phase-locked loop circuits : limitations of simulation in MATLAB and SPICE
2017
During recent years it has been shown that hidden oscillations, whose basin of attraction does not overlap with small neighborhoods of equilibria, may significantly complicate simulation of dynamical models, lead to unreliable results and wrong conclusions, and cause serious damage in drilling systems, aircrafts control systems, electromechanical systems, and other applications. This article provides a survey of various phase-locked loop based circuits (used in satellite navigation systems, optical, and digital communication), where such difficulties take place in MATLAB and SPICE. Considered examples can be used for testing other phase-locked loop based circuits and simulation tools, and m…
A modal approach for the evaluation of the response sensitivity of structural systems subjected to non-stationary random processes
2005
A method for the evaluation of the response sensitivity of both classically and non-classically damped discrete linear structural systems under stochastic actions is presented. The proposed approach requires the following items: (a) a suitable modal expansion of the response; (b) the derivation in analytical form of the equations governing the evolution of the derivatives of the response (the so-called sensitivity equations) with respect to the parameters that define the structural model; (c) an extensive use of the Kronecker algebra for determining the analytical expressions of the sensitivity of the structural response statistics to non-stationary random input processes. Moreover, a step-…
XENON100 dark matter results from a combination of 477 live days
2016
We report on WIMP search results of the XENON100 experiment, combining three runs summing up to 477 live days from January 2010 to January 2014. Data from the first two runs were already published. A blind analysis was applied to the last run recorded between April 2013 and January 2014 prior to combining the results. The ultra-low electromagnetic background of the experiment, ~$5 \times 10^{-3}$ events/(keV$_{\mathrm{ee}}\times$kg$\times$day) before electronic recoil rejection, together with the increased exposure of 48 kg $\times$ yr improves the sensitivity. A profile likelihood analysis using an energy range of (6.6 - 43.3) keV$_{\mathrm{nr}}$ sets a limit on the elastic, spin-independe…
Modeling and Performance Assessment of the Split-Pi Used as a Storage Converter in All the Possible DC Microgrid Scenarios. Part I: Theoretical Analy…
2021
The integration of an electrical storage system (ESS) into a DC microgrid using a bidirectional DC/DC converter provides substantial benefits but requires careful design. Among such converter topologies, the Split-pi converter presents several merits at the cost of non-isolated operation. However, the few works in the literature on the Split-pi presented only closed-loop control with a single control loop; furthermore, they neglected the reactive components’ parasitic resistances and did not perform any experimental validation. This work aimed at investigating the use of the Split-pi converter as a power interface between an ESS and a DC microgrid. Five typical microgrid scenarios are prese…
