A method for assessing Granger causal relationships in bivariate time series, based on nonlinear autoregressive (NAR) and nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) models is presented. The method evaluates bilateral interactions between two time series by quantifying the predictability improvement (PI) of the output time series when the dynamics associated with the input time series are included, i.e., moving from NAR to NARX prediction. A model-based approach to perform mutual nonlinear prediction of short cardiovascular variability series is presented. The approach is based on identifying exogenous (X) and autoregressive exogenous (ARX) models by K-nearest neighbors local linear approximation, and estimates the predictability of a series given the other as the squared correlation between original and predicted values of the series. Experimental study of electrical FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons with modified excitability

International audience; We present an electronical circuit modelling a FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron with a modified excitability. To characterize this basic cell, the bifurcation curves between stability with excitation threshold, bistability and oscillations are investigated. An electrical circuit is then proposed to realize a unidirectional coupling between two cells, mimicking an inter-neuron synaptic coupling. In such a master-slave configuration, we show experimentally how the coupling strength controls the dynamics of the slave neuron, leading to frequency locking, chaotic behavior and synchronization. Here, we consider the instantaneous capacity (also referred to as the mutual information) in orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) transceiver systems over multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Rayleigh fading channels. In recent years several fast response controllers have been proposed for DC-DC converters. The majority of them rely on a cascade control structure involving the inductor's current in the control function as its faster dynamics, respect to output voltage, allows a significant increase in the regulation performance; the drawback is the need of a proper and expensive current sensor. In this paper a simple and robust formulation for the design of a current observer, based on the output voltage measurement is presented. Nonlinear dynamical models are frequently used to approximate and predict observed physical, biological and economic systems. Such models will be subject to errors both in the model dynamics, and the observations of the underlying system. In order to improve models, it is necessary to understand the causes of error growth. A complication with chaotic models is that small errors may be amplified by the model dynamics. The efficiency of a system is a very important parameter for high power electrical drives applications. Moreover, the efficiency of power converters plays a fundamental role. Aim of this work, is to propose a novel selective harmonic mitigation method without solving non-linear equations. Through a very simple approach, the polynomial equations which drive the control angles have been detected for a single-phase five-level cascaded H-Bridge inverter. The obtained polynomial equations can be easily implemented in a digital system to real-time operation. The paper also presents the simulation analysis and experimental validation.
