Optimization of photovoltaic energy production through an efficient switching matrix

This work presents a preliminary study on the implementation of a new system for power output maximization of photovoltaic generators under non-homogeneous conditions. The study evaluates the performance of an efficient switching matrix and the relevant automatic reconfiguration control algorithms. The switching matrix is installed between the PV generator and the inverter, allowing a large number of possible module configurations. PV generator, switching matrix and the intelligent controller have been simulated in Simulink. Transverse flux generators a solution for stand-alone wind mill

The transverse flux generator (TFG) proposed in the paper as a solution for stand-alone wind electric power plants has a topology derived from a reluctance one. This variant has a permanent magnet on the rotor derived for a well-known topology in literature. Consequently, the number of rotor poles becomes double compared with stator one. The paper analyses the possibility of using a multiple modules one phase structure in comparison with poly-phase topology. The costs, torque harmonic content and the different rotor poles' topology are discussed and the conclusions are useful for the plant designer.
Design optimization for the adoption of bonded magnets in PM BLDC motors

The increment of the manageable power in machines where the normally adopted ferrites are replaced with bonded magnets can vary and can introduce saturation problems depending on the variations in the magnetic circuit design. The saturation of the magnetic circuit distorts the phase voltages, introducing undesired harmonics in the connection to the mains. The paper presents a mathematical model of Permanent Magnet AC brushless machines (PMSM) having a number of stator poles-obtained via the distribution of the three-phase winding- different from the rotor one, realized by the displacement of the permanent magnets. Steering dynamical systems with finite plans and limited path length

Complex dynamical systems can be steered by using symbolic input plans. These plans must have a finite descriptive length, and can be expressed by means of words chosen in an alphabet of symbols. In this way, such plans can be sent through a limited capacity channel to a remote system, where they are decoded in suitable control actions. The choice of this symbols is essential to efficiently encode steering plans. A polynomial algorithm solving a special class of hybrid optimal control problems

Hybrid optimal control problems are, in general, difficult to solve. A current research goal is to isolate those problems that lead to tractable solutions [5]. In this paper, we identify a special class of hybrid optimal control problems which are easy to solve. We do this by using a paradigm borrowed from the Operations Research field. As main result, we present a solution algorithm that converges to the exact solution in polynomial time. Robust control of stochastic systems against bounded disturbances with application to flight control

This paper investigates the problems of state observer design and observer-based integral sliding-mode control (SMC) for a class of Itô stochastic systems subject to simultaneous input and output disturbances. A new type of sliding-mode-based descriptor observer method is developed to approximate the system state and disturbance vectors. An integral-type SMC scheme is proposed based on the state estimation to stabilize the overall system. Robust Predictive Control of a variable speed wind turbine using the LMI formalism

This paper proposes a Robust Fuzzy Multivariable Model Predictive Controller (RFMMPC) using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) formulation. The main idea is to solve at each time instant, an LMI optimization problem that incorporates input, output and Constrained Receding Horizon Predictive Control (CRHPC) constraints, and plant uncertainties, and guarantees certain robustness properties. The RFMMPC is easily designed by solving a convex optimization problem subject to LMI conditions. Then, the derived RFMMPC applied to a variable wind turbine with blade pitch and generator torque as two control inputs. The effectiveness of the proposed design is shown by simulation results.
Multi-Objective Design of Optimisation of a Class of PKMs - The 3-DOF Gantry-Tau

The main contribution of this paper is the use of the evolutionary multi-objective methodology based on the com plex search algorithm and geometric approaches to optimise a parallel kinematic structure. The design optimisation scheme includes the kinematic (collisions free workspace), elastostatic (Cartesian stiffness in the Y direction) and elastodynamic (first resonance frequency) properties of the PKM as the objectives. The optimisation constraints are the support frame lengths, actuator positions, end-effector’s kinematic parameters and the robot’s arm lengths. The optimisation results are presented in this paper.
