Around 1930 R. Carnap, H. Hahn and M. Schlick,1 largely under the influence of L. Wittgenstein, developed a conception of the nature of mathematics2 which can be characterized as being a combination of nominalism and conventionalism and which had been foreshadowed in Schlick’s doctrine about implicit definitions.3 Its main objective, according to Hahn and Schlick,4 was to conciliate strict empiricism5 with the a priori certainty of mathematics. Fast and compact data acquisition for gas-filled detectors with delay line

This article describes the functionality, implementation and performance of a PCI data acquisition board that can be used in conjunction with gas-filled detectors with delay line readout. The board combines a large on-board 256-MByte histogramming memory with a maximum 10-MHz count rate in continuous operation and integrates the time frame generation, histogram building and buffering functionalities in a single PCI board, resulting in a fast, compact and cost-effective data acquisition solution for the Spanish beamline BM16 at ESRF.

In recent years new forms of food distribution organisation, known as short supply chains, have gained ground. The local nature of such distribution has positive effects on the environment and on the local economy. Consumers appear to trust the short supply chain, and it has achieved considerable success. However, the short supply chain has credence characteristics which, by their very nature, cannot be identified through a system of certification. The question we address in this paper is whether it is possible to identify the constituent elements of the credence trait in relation to food quality in the short supply chain. Activation of the MAPK pathway represents a hallmark of pediatric low-grade glioma (pLGG) and is frequently caused by BRAF alterations. BRAF-V600E represent an aggressive type of pLGG with less than optimal response to conventional chemo-radiation approaches. While clinical trials using BRAF-V600E inhibitors are ongoing, these data are not yet available. We have assembled an international cohort of BRAF-V600E glioma patients treated off-label with BRAF inhibitors as a monotherapy. Complete molecular, clinical and imaging data is being collected and compared to previous chemo-radiation therapies.
