Prophylactic cranial irradiation in stage IV small cell lung cancer

2019

Background: Due to conflicting results between major trials the role of prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) in stage IV small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is controversial. Methods: We obtained a list of 13 European experts from both the European Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). The strategies in decision making for PCI in stage IV SCLC were collected. Decision trees were created representing these strategies. Analysis of consensus was performed with the objective consensus methodology. Results: The factors associated with the recommendation for the use of PCI included the fitness of the patient, young age…

0112: Major improvement in one-year mortality in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction in relation with early PCI and recommended medicat…

2016

Background and aimOutcomes of AMI patients have substantially improved over the past 2 decades. Whether similar trends are observed in elderly (≥75 years of age) and younger patients has not been extensively studied.MethodsWe analysed one-year mortality of elderly vs younger patients in 4 nationwide French survey carried out 5 years apart from 1995 to 2010. Consecutive STEMI and NSTEMI patients (≤48 hours from onset) were recruited over one-month periods. Among 10610 patients included in the 4 surveys, 3389 (32%) were aged 75+.ResultsFrom 1995 to 2010, the proportion of 75+remained stable in NSTEMI (1995: 36%, 2010: 38%), but decreased in STEMI patients (1995: 30%, 2010: 25.5%, P=0.006). Life Cycle Assessment of organic and conventional apple supply chains in the North of Italy

2017

Abstract This paper compares the energy and environmental impacts of organic and conventional apples cultivated in the North of Italy, by applying the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. The authors examined the supply chain of apples, including the input of raw materials and energy sources, the farming step, the post-harvest processes and the distribution of apples to the final users. The paper develops two original contributions: 1) it enhances the limited number of studies on LCA applied to apples; 2) it compares organic and conventional apples produced in lands characterized by the same climatic conditions, to evaluate which of the two products is more competitive from an energy an…

A PCI Express optical link based on low-cost transceivers qualified for radiation hardness

2013

In this paper we want to demonstrate that an optical physical medium is compatible with the second generation of PCI Express. The benefit introduced by the optical decoupling of a PCI Express endpoint is twofold: it allows for a geographical detachment of the device and it remains compliant with the usual PCI accesses to the legacy I/O and memory spaces. We propose two boards that can bridge the PCI Express protocol over optical fiber. The first is a simple optical translator while the second is a more robust switch developed for connecting up to four devices to a single host. Such adapters are already working in the control and data acquisition system of a particle detector at CERN and hen…

«Tiene per altro il cappellano nella sua galera sempre dinanzi un campo grande di messe». L’assistenza religiosa nell’Ordine di Malta in un’istruzion…

2018

The article analyses unpublished instructions written by a vice-prior of the Order of St. John in the late seventeenth century. They were directed at the conventual chaplains providing religious support to knights, soldiers and crew (including slave rowers) during the naval campaigns of the Order galleys, the so-called “caravane”. On one hand the work was inspired by literature on the “Christian soldier” (whose authors were often Jesuits), on the other it brought together the spiritual care issues directly experienced by the same chaplains on board. What emerged is their lack of preparation in fully accomplishing their pastoral duties in the cramped and mixed space of the galley, where the …

The evaluation of root fracture with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) : an epidemiological study

2018

Background The aim of this study was evaluation of the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) image of 50 patients at the ages of 8-15 suspecting root fracture and root fracture occurred, exposed to dental traumatic. In additionally, this study was showed effect of crown fracture on root fracture healing. Material and methods All of the individuals included in the study were obtained images with the cone-beam computed tomography range of 0,3 voxel and 8.9 seconds.(i-CAT®, Model 17-19, Imaging SciencesInternational, Hatfield, Pa USA).The information obtained from the history and CBCT images of patients were evaluated using chi-square test statistical method the mean and the distribution of the…

A smart rotary technique versus conventional pulpectomy for primary teeth: A randomized controlled clinical study.

2017

Background Techniques with adequate accuracy of working length determination along with shorter duration of treatment in pulpectomy procedure seems to be essential in pediatric dentistry. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of root canal length measurement with Root ZX II apex locator and rotary system in pulpectomy of primary teeth. Material and methods In this randomized control clinical trial complete pulpectomy was performed on 80 mandibular primary molars in 80, 4-6-year-old children. The study population was randomly divided into case and control groups. In control group conventional pulpectomy was performed and in the case group working length was determined by …

Prefazione a: DIETRO UNA GRATA.

Diagnosis and management of AML in adults: 2017 ELN recommendations from an international expert panel

2017

Abstract The first edition of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations for diagnosis and management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults, published in 2010, has found broad acceptance by physicians and investigators caring for patients with AML. Recent advances, for example, in the discovery of the genomic landscape of the disease, in the development of assays for genetic testing and for detecting minimal residual disease (MRD), as well as in the development of novel antileukemic agents, prompted an international panel to provide updated evidence- and expert opinion-based recommendations. The recommendations include a revised version of the ELN genetic categories, a proposal for …

Intraoral epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: a case report and review of the literature.

2009

The epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EH) is an uncommon angiocentric neoplasm of borderline or intermediate malignant potential, between the hemangioma and conventional angiosarcoma. It is characterized by the proliferation of endothelial cells with epithelioid or histiocitóide morphology with vacuolated cytoplasm and occasional eosinophilic spindle cells. Shows potential for local recurrence as well as the ability to metastasize. Rarely affects the oral cavity, it have been described from 1975 until 2008 only 27 oral cases. Morphologically the EHs may be confused with other lesions, from a hemangioma to a squamous cell carcinoma, and thus immunohistochemical analysis is required. This pap…
