Behaviour influences cholesterol plasma levels in a pig model

Little is known about the relationship between feed intake behaviour and cholesterol levels in humans. This can be attributed to the fact that feed intake behaviour in humans is difficult to assess. The relationships between feed intake, feed efficiency and feed intake behaviour, and cholesterol and triglyceride levels were investigated at an average age of 187 days, in a pig model consisting of 202 Duroc barrows. Compensatory growth in juvenile rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), held individually

Abstract The effect of feed cycling on compensatory growth was examined in juvenile rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), held individually at 15 °C. Fish were fasted for 2, 4, 8, or 14 days and then refed until either their relative feed intake differed by less than 10% of fed controls, or the duration of the refeeding period was four times the fasting period. After 80 days, fish fasted for 8 days at a time were smaller than controls, or fish experiencing 2 or 4 days of fasting, while fish fasted for 14 days did not differ from other groups. Efficiency of concentration photovoltaic cells governed by luminescence processes

The development of multi-junctions III-V semiconductors solar cells, that combine high conversion efficiency (over 40%) and capability of working under high illumination intensity (up to 1000 suns), has stimulated a rapid growth of concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) technology. The performance of these cells is based on the matching between the semiconductors band gap and the solar spectrum so as to optimize the current balancing between the subcells. This requirement is also important in connection with the CPV modules using lenses, mirrors, optical coupling compounds that introduce a wavelength dependent response to the sunlight. Nel presente lavoro sono stati impiegati nanocorni di carbonio (CNHs) come piattaforma catalitica per il design di nuovi materiali ibridi a base di sali di imidazolio per la conversione della CO2 in carbonati ciclici. A tale scopo sono stati preparati una serie di catalizzatori eterogenei mediante una procedura sintetica one-pot basata sulla polimerizzazione radicalica di vari sali di bis vinilimidazolio in presenza di nanocorni di carbonio. En esta tesis doctoral se muestra la conversión directa de fibroblastos embrionarios de ratón a células con morfología y fenotipo similares al hepatocito mediante la expresión retroviral de seis factores de transcripción hepáticos, Hhex, Gata4, Foxa2, HNF4α HNF1α y HNF6. Los fibroblastos infectados mantenidos durante 3-4 semanas en cultivo adquieren una morfología epitelial y expresan genes típicamente hepáticos como Albumina, Cyp7a1, Tat o Slc10a1 a niveles próximos al hepatocito. Internal conversion from excited electronic states of 229Th ions

The process of internal conversion from excited electronic states is investigated theoretically for the case of the vacuum-ultraviolet nuclear transition of 229 Th . Due to the very low transition energy, the 229 Th nucleus offers the unique possibility to open the otherwise forbidden internal conversion nuclear decay channel for thorium ions via optical laser excitation of the electronic shell. We show that this feature can be exploited to investigate the isomeric state properties via observation of internal conversion from excited electronic configurations of Th + and Th 2 + ions. We have studied experimentally and theoretically the rectifying properties of a single asymmetric nanopore functionalized with amphoteric lysine groups and characterized the net current obtained with zero-average time dependent potentials. Imagery and Religious Conversion. The Symbolic Function of Jonah 1:13

Jonah 1:13 has a delaying function in the narrative, introducing a pause between Jonah’s demand to be thrown in the sea (1:12) and the event’s occurrence (1:15). Most commentators discuss only the events of 1:13 and their causes. In this article, I suggest an interpretation of Jonah 1:13 based on the imagery of the narrative. An analysis of the use of metaphors and symbols does not replace the message of the verse; such an analysis simply augments it with motives of the seamen’s conversion.
