Sets of Efficiency in a Normed Space and Inner Product

1987

In a normed space X the distances to the points of a given set A being considered as the objective functions of a multicriteria optimization problem, we define four sets of efficiency (efficient, strictly efficient, weakly efficient and properly efficient points). Instead of studying properties of the sets of efficiency according to properties of the norm, we investigate an inverse problem: deduce properties of the norm of X from properties of the sets of efficiency, valid for every finite subset A of X.

Archetypoids: A new approach to define representative archetypal data

2015

[EN] The new concept archetypoids is introduced. Archetypoid analysis represents each observation in a dataset as a mixture of actual observations in the dataset, which are pure type or archetypoids. Unlike archetype analysis, archetypoids are real observations, not a mixture of observations. This is relevant when existing archetypal observations are needed, rather than fictitious ones. An algorithm is proposed to find them and some of their theoretical properties are introduced. It is also shown how they can be obtained when only dissimilarities between observations are known (features are unavailable). Archetypoid analysis is illustrated in two design problems and several examples, compar…

Identifying and Assessing Inter-Muscular Fat at the Distal Diaphyseal Femur Measured by Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT)

2021

INTRODUCTION Inter/intramuscular fat can be assessed with peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT) and is of interest as an indicator of ‘muscle quality’. Typical pQCT scan sites (forearm, lower leg) have a low amount of inter/intramuscular fat, however distal diaphyseal femur scan sites with conspicuous inter/intramuscular fat have been identified as potentially more prudent scan sites, even in healthy adolescents. However, current state of the art analysis methods require labour-intensive manual segmentation of the scan. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the reliability of a novel open source automated enclosing convex polygon approach (source code https://github.…
