Abstract The use as coligands of the nicotinamide (nia) and isonicotinamide (inia) molecules in the complex formation between copper(II) and phenylmalonate [Phmal = dianion of phenylmalonic acid] yielded the compounds of formula [Cu(inia)(Phmal)(H2O)] (1) and [Cu(inia)(Phmal)(H2O)]n (2). Although single crystals of 1 of appropriate size were grown, their unresolved twinning and space group ambiguity prevented a satisfactory X-ray structure determination. Inverted molecular cups: 1-D and 2-D Ag(I) coordination polymers from resorcinarene bis-thiacrowns

Resorcinarene bis-thiacrown hosts 1–3 were prepared and crystallized with silver trifluoroacetate yielding one and two dimensional Ag coordination polymers. The complexation of silver in exo-cavity fashion folds the thiacrown bridges inwards transforming the resorcinarene hosts into inverted molecular cups. The silver cations were coordinated to the resorcinarene ligands and trifluoroacetate anions, which act as monodentate or bidendate bridging ligands between the metal ions. Argentophilic Ag⋯Ag (2.93–3.38 A) interactions supported by two bridging carboxylate anions were found in two of the structures, whereas longer Ag⋯Ag distances were observed if only one anion connected the silver cati…

Abstract This paper reports the synthesis, X-ray structure and magnetic characterization of [Cu2(HBIMAM)2(C4O4)3(H2O)2]n·2nH2O [BIMAM = bis(imidazol-2-yl)methylamino methane]. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along the [1 1 0] direction – with copper ions bridged by μ1,3-squarato ligands. Furthermore, these chains are further cross-linked through additional squarate anions (with the same μ1,3-bis(monodentate) bridging mode) to generate two-dimensional sheets parallel to the ab plane. Cycloocta[b]pyridin-10-one was prepared to form the corresponding imino derivatives, which then reacted with (DME)NiBr2 to form 10-aryliminocycloocta[b]pyridylnickel bromides (Ni1–Ni5). The new compounds were characterized by means of FT-IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis and the organic ligands were also analyzed by the NMR measurements. Furthermore, the molecular structure of a representative complex Ni3 was determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction, indicating the distorted tetrahedral geometry around the nickel atom. Spin-Crossover Modification through Selective CO2 Sorption

[EN] We present a spin-crossover Fe-II coordination polymer with no permanent channels that selectively sorbs CO2 over N-2. The one-dimensional chains display internal voids of similar to 9 angstrom diameter, each being capable to accept one molecule of CO2 at 1 bar and 273 K. X-ray diffraction provides direct structural evidence of the location of the gas molecules and reveals the formation of O=C=O(delta(-))center dot center dot center dot pi interactions. This physisorption modifies the spin transition, producing a 9 K increase in T-1/2.
Selective guest inclusion of linear C6 hydrocarbons in a Zn(ii) 1D coordination polymer

Trapping of volatile unbranched C6 hydrocarbons (hexane, 1-hexene, and 1-hexyne) in a 1D coordination polymer is reported. The guest inclusion was studied quantitatively by 1H-NMR analysis and thermogravimetric measurements, while synchrotron single-crystal diffraction data allowed advancing the view of their confinement into linear CP channels. Adsorption experiments performed through solid/vapour processes on microcrystals of CP 1 showed a certain degree of selectivity for 1-hexyne, which could be rationalized by its larger dipole moment.
