Illness perception, mood and coping strategies in allergic rhinitis: are there differences among ARIA classes of severity?

2014

Background: This study was designed to assess if illness perception, mood state and coping strategies differ according to allergic rhinitis (AR) persistence and severity. Methods: Illness perception, mood profiles, coping behaviors and rhinitis symptoms were assessed by means of validated tools inpatients classified according to the Allergic Rhinitis and Its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) guidelines. Results: Two hundred and thirty-one patients underwent data analysis. Coping strategies and postpartum depressive symptoms: A structural equation modelling approach.

2014

AbstractBackgroundVariables such as the mother's personality, social support, coping strategies and stressful events have been described as risk factors for postpartum depression. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was used to examine whether neuroticism, perceived social support, perceived life events, and coping strategies are associated with postpartum depressive symptoms at the 8th and 32nd weeks.MethodsA total of 1626 pregnant women participated in a longitudinal study. Different evaluations were performed 8 and 32 weeks after delivery. Several measures were used: the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), the Diagnostic Interview for Genetic Studies (DIGS), the Eysenck…

Motivation zur psychosomatisch-psychotherapeutischen Bearbeitung von beruflichen Belastungen - Entwicklung und Validierung eines Fragebogens

2005

Background There is a lack of questionnaires assessing the motivation of inpatients to scrutinize occupational stresses and deal with them as part of their psychotherapeutic treatment. Work-related stress contributes significantly to the development of mental disorders. Vocational reintegration is an outcome criterion for the success of vocational rehabilitation. Patients are often not motivated for dealing with occupational stresses during inpatient medical rehabilitation. Therefore it is necessary to assess patient motivation at the beginning of treatment, in order to assign them to specific interventions, e. g. promoting motivation. Method A questionnaire (Fragebogen zur berufsbezogenen …

Dylematy uzależnienia – impulsywność i radzenie sobie ze stresem u mężczyzn uczestniczących w terapii uzależnień

2017

W drugiej części przedstawiono metodologię badań, a w trzeciej – wyniki…

Relationships between Domain-Specific Knowledge, Generic Attributes, and Instructional Skills

2020

We introduce a theoretical framework on teachers’ instructional skills to describe how they can be modeled across different domains. This framework conceptualizes teachers’ instructional skills as action-related skills (during instruction) and reflective skills (before and after instruction), which are considered crucial for coping with the practical demands of everyday teaching in a specific subject. The theoretical framework assumes that both skill facets are influenced by the teacher’s professional knowledge, generic attributes such as general cognitive abilities or ambiguity tolerance as well as affective and motivational factors. To investigate the relationships between teachers’ instr…

A Randomised Controlled Trial to Test the Effectiveness of Planning Strategies to Improve Medication Adherence in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease

2017

Background Low levels of adherence to medication prescribed to treat and manage chronic disease may lead to maladaptive health outcomes. Theory-based, easy-to-administer interventions that promote patients’ effective self-regulation of their medication-taking behaviour are needed if adherence is to be maximised. We tested the effectiveness of an intervention adopting planning techniques to promote medication adherence. Methods Outpatients with cardiovascular disease (N = 71) were allocated to either an experimental condition, in which participants were asked to form implementation intentions and coping plans related to their treatment, or to a no-planning control condition, in which partici…

The serial mediation effects of body image-coping strategies and avatar-identification in the relationship between self-concept clarity and gaming di…

2023

Gaming disorder (GD) has been recognized as a mental health problem, resulting in adverse and psychosocial consequences. Although previous evidence suggests poorer self-concept clarity (SCC) and avatar identification are associated with GD, less is known about the mediating role of body-image coping strategies (appearance- fixing and avoidance, a form of escapism) in this relationship. A total of 214 Italian online gamers (64 % males) were anonymously recruited online by posting the survey link on social media gaming forums and other online sites. The participants’ ages ranged from 18 to 59 years (M = 24.07 years, SD = 5.19). The results of the correlational analysis showed that SCC was neg…

Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms in Breast Cancer Patients: Temporal Evolution, Predictors, and Mediation

2014

This study (N = 102 women) evaluated the time course of posttraumatic stress symptomatology (PTSS) at different stages of nonmetastastic cancer diagnosis and treatment: during treatment, at the end of treatment, and at a 6-12 months follow-up. We also assessed the contribution of demographic, trait, and state predictors to PTSS, and coping processes as proximal mediators of the relation between Type C personality and PTSS. Results indicated that PTSS remained constant across all phases. There were significant correlations (range = .28 to .81) between PTSS and psychosocial variables and age, but not with other sociodemographic or medical factors. A linear growth curve model showed that hopel…

The role of spirituality in coping: Examining the relationships between spiritual dimensions and coping styles

2008

This article explores the role played by spirituality in coping and presents the relationships between spiritual dimensions and coping styles. Spirituality has been considered as an important buffer against stressful events which may help people to overcome their distress and difficulties. Two hundred and eight individuals completed questionnaires which included the Self-description Questionnaire of Spirituality and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations. The results suggest that three spiritual dimensions, i.e., Religious attitudes, Ethical sensitivity, and Harmony, play an important role in coping processes. The dimensions have a different impact on particular styles depending on t…
