Assessing Performance on an Evaluated Speaking Task
2018
Abstract. Coping with social stress involves cognitive perceptions and the activation of several physiological mechanisms. Our main purpose was to examine how psychological factors such as cognitive appraisal, and particularly self-efficacy, may affect psychophysiological reactivity to social stress and young people’s performance on an evaluated speaking task. Thirty-five university students (18 men and 17 women) were exposed to the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) and a control condition in a counterbalanced order. Self-efficacy, several dimensions of trait anxiety related to social evaluation, and changes in state anxiety were assessed. Additionally, heart rate and heart rate variability …
Adaptation and Initial Validation of the BRCS in an Elderly Spanish Sample
2012
Resilience is understood as a dynamic process encompassing positive adaptation within the context of adversity. This study examined the validity of the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS), a 4-item measure designed to capture tendencies to cope with stress in a highly adaptive manner, in an elderly Spanish population. A total of 133 elderly people from an association of retired persons in Valencia (Spain) provided the responses for the validation study. The factorial validity of the scale was tested using confirmatory factor analysis, with a single dimension of resilience with adequate fit indexes emerging from this analysis. The BRCS has adequate internal consistency both at the scale and…
Physiotherapy adherence and perception in patients with cystic fibrosis: A descriptive study
2015
Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic and multisystem disease in which respiratory physiotherapy (RP) has revealed as one of the main pillars of treatment. Aim: This study was aimed at assessing the convergent validity and the internal consistency of a new instrument (CAP-FISIO questionnaire) to measure the adherence and the perception of RP in patients with CF. In addition, we inquired into the correlation of the CAP-FISIO questionnaire outcomes with degrees of self-efficacy and coping of the patients. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional pilot study. Patients with CF were assessed in one temporal moment: 1) anthropometrics; 2) forced Spirometry; 3) adherence and percepti…

Stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju saistība ar pašcieņu
2016
Šī pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot vai pastāv statistiski nozīmīga saistība starp pašcieņu un stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju izvēli. Pētījumā kopumā piedalījās 62 respondenti, vecumā no 19 – 45 gadiem (M = 24,29; SD = 5,22). Pašcieņa, tika mērīta izmantojot Rozenberga pašcieņas skalu (Rosenberg self-esteem scale, Rosenberg, 1965), Latvijā adaptējusi Anika Miltuze, 1996. gadā. Savukārt stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģijas, tika mērītas ar Stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju aptauju (The Coping Orientation of Problem Experience / COPE / Inventory, Carver, Scheier, &Weintraub, 1989), kursa darba ietvaros Latvijā adaptējusi Inna Petrova, 2009. gadā. Tika konstatēta negatīva saistība starp pašcieņu un izv…

Subjectivity in a therapeutic process as a predictor of psychotherapeutic success
2014
Reflections on the uniquely human dimensions of behavior over the last few decades have become a meeting space connecting different sciences. The holistic health model emphasizes the subjectivity of man. Humans are open and active, and remain in relationships with others; they relate to the world they live in and seek meaning. Subjectivity in the psychological perspective can be described in three ways: subjectivity as identity, individuality, specific experience of self; subjectivity as the ability to initiate, regulate, direct, and realize goal-oriented and autonomous activity; subjectivity as the application of one’s own system of values. Subjectivity or causality (core features agency) …
Rapid assessment of drug abuse prevention needs for youth in small Spanish municipalities: Coping with resource limitations
2006
This study evaluates the drug abuse prevention needs for Spanish youth in municipalities with a population below 7,000 inhabitants in the province of Valencia, Spain. The primary goal of the project was to generate policy and to identify possible courses of drug prevention in these towns. The project utilized the basic RARE model. Grounded Theory was used to frame the qualitative analysis. Interviews with local cultural experts provided strong evidence that many specifically mandated prevention needs are not adequately covered in small municipalities.
