Female unemployment in an emerging economy : A study of online social support as a coping strategy

2021

The increased use of social media has resulted in active participation of women on social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. However, very little research has been carried out, specifically, on how women cope with the challenges of unemployment using social media networks. Thus, many women resort to different means as a coping strategy during their unemployment. In the face of rapid diffusion of social platforms, it is unclear how women personality traits influence their use of the social media. Similarly, it is also unclear how women’s experiences with these social networks, as a medium of online social support, serve as a coping strategy in the period of unemp…

Going through the lockdown: a longitudinal study on the psychological consequences of the coronavirus pandemic

2021

Coronavirus 2019 pandemic lockdown in Italy lasted for 2 months, 1 week and 2 days. During this long period, one of the longest in Europe, the restrictions produced effects on people’s psychological well-being, with consequences that also continued after lockdown. The purpose of the study is to investigate these effects and how they changed in the general population over a period of time. We are also interested in exploring people’s post-lockdown anxiety and concerns. We conducted an online survey using snowball sampling techniques. The longitudinal study consisted of four administrations covering a period of 10 weeks between April (baseline) and June (last follow-up). Levels of anxiety and…

Coping strategies in life stories of young adults with foster care backgrounds

2021

Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin sijoitettuna olleiden nuorten aikuisten selviytymiskeinoja 18 yksilöhaastattelun avulla. Fenomenologisella analyysilla (IPA; Smith & Osborn, 2003. Interpretative phenomenological analysis. Teoksessa J. A. Smith (toim.), Qualitative Psychology (s. 51–80).

Sustainability Perspectives in Organizational and Workplace Learning Studies

2022

The association between sustainability and learning in organizations and workplaces represents a current articulated grand challenge for human resource development (HRD) and learning studies and practice, which calls for integrated inquiries. However, studies of learning in organizations and workplaces deal with sustainability in scattered and diverse ways that promote calls for more integrated understandings of the different approaches and associations. This article outlines the results from a scoping thematic review mapping out leading perspectives within the research fields of HRD, organizational learning (OL) and workplace learning (WPL). This article thus explores the perspectives that…

The Mediating Role of Individual Differences in the Interaction between Specific Socioprofessional Pressures and Job Satisfaction

2014

Abstract Previous research suggests that individual differences play an essential role in the complex process of organisational stress. The mediator role of specific individual differences and coping strategies, in the stressor – strain (effect) relationship is investigated in the present research. One sample of romanian employees (N=311) from an administrative-public service organisation participated in the study. Using the Pressure Managment Indicator (PMI, Williams & Cooper, 1998 ; PMI-RO, Brate, 2004, 2008 ), findings revealed significant mediating interactions between specific socioprofessional pressures and job satisfaction. The results have practical implications for the future resea…

Coping Strategies against peer victimization: differences according to gender, grade, victimization status and perceived classroom social climate

2021

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include “Good Health and Well-being” (SDG3) and “Quality Education” (SDG4). Nevertheless, many students cannot achieve these goals if they suffer peer victimization at their schools, and intervention programs to reduce it are necessary. These programs should consider the possible differences in the coping strategies preferred by students according to some personal (e.g., gender, grade, victimization status) and contextual (e.g., perceived classroom social climate) factors to be more effective. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the possible differences in the coping strategies preferred by students (ask a friend for help, ask a tea…

Coping to play : the effect of user-driven innovations on user experience in games

2017

Tässä Pro Gradu -tutkielmassa tutkitaan miten käyttäjälähtöisiä innovaatioita voi hyödyntää videopeleissä esiintyvien käytettävyysongelmien selvittämisessä coping-keinona. Lisäksi käsitellään käyttäjälähtöisten innovaatioiden vaikutusta pelien käyttökokemukseen. Aihe on tärkeä erityisesti peliteollisuudelle, sillä useat peliyhtiöt ovat antaneet pelaajille mahdollisuuden muokata pelejä tietyiltä osin luomalla modifikaatioita, (engl. modification, mod) joilla voidaan vaikuttaa pelin ulkoasuun, mekaniikkaan ja sisältöön. Pelikehityksen jatkaminen lisäsisällön luomisella peliyhteisössä on nykyään merkittävä osa pelikulttuuria, joten peliyritysten on tärkeää ymmärtää sen sisältämät mahdollisuude…

Victims' experiences concerning the actions of the authorities and the coping skills used for surviving partner stalking

2017

The Interplay of IT Users’ Coping Strategies : Uncovering Momentary Emotional Load, Routes, and Sequences

2020

Despite the positive aspects of information technology (IT) use, it is common for users to experience negative IT incidents. Examples of negative IT incidents include getting lost in an unfamiliar country due to a dysfunctional map application and missing a monetary insurance benefit due to the failure of an activity tracker application. Such incidents can harm IT providers by giving rise to user dissatisfaction, discontinued use, switching, and negative word-of-mouth. To minimize this harm, it is important to understand how users cope after negative incidents. Specifically, information systems (IS) researchers have called for research that uncovers the complex interplay of IT users’ coping…
