To combine the optical properties of CdSe@ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with the electrical properties of semiconducting polymers, we prepared QD/polymer hybrids by grafting a block copolymer (BCP) containing thiol-anchoring moieties (poly(para-methyl triphenylamine-b-cysteamine acrylamide)) onto the surfaces of QDs through the ligand exchange procedure. The prepared QD/polymer hybrids possess improved processability such as enhanced solubility in various organic solvents as well as the film formation properties along with the improved colloidal stability derived from the grafted polymer shells. Selective drug targeting of a specific organ or tissue is a challenging task. Switchable surface structured hydrogel coatings

Switchable surface structures based on hydrogels are an emerging field in material science, microfluidics, soft robotics and anti-fouling. Here, we describe a novel method that uses a photo-cross-linkable terpolymer to create a hydrogel coating with a switchable surface structure. The terpolymer is based on poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) and it is shown that simple coating technologies like slit die coating can be used under ambient conditions. It is also shown that the swelling ratio of the coating is controlled by the energy dose of ultraviolet (UV) light. High molecular arborescent polyoxyethylene with hydroxyl containing shell

Abstract Arborescent polyoxyethylene of high molar mass (2×10 5  g/mol) and narrow molar mass distribution was synthesized in a three-stage process. In the first stage a triblock copolymer of ethylene oxide (central block, DP ca. 90) and 2,3-epoxypropanol-1 (short flanking blocks, DP ca. 5) was synthesized. The potassium alcoholate derived from this copolymer was used to initiate the polymerization of ethylene oxide and the subsequent addition of protected glycidol (1-etoxyethyl glycidyl ether). Ultrahigh-molecular-weight (UHMW) tapered block copolymers (BCPs) consisting of polyisoprene-block-poly(4-methylstyrene) featuring overall molar masses in the range of 1101–2033 kg mol–1 (Mw) are synthesized via a convenient one-step anionic copolymerization protocol. The obtained UHMW BCPs are investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, size exclusion chromatography, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Splitting of Surface-Immobilized Multicompartment Micelles into Clusters upon Charge Inversion

International audience; We investigate a morphological transition of surface-immobilized triblock terpolymer micelles: the splitting into well-defined clusters of satellite micelles upon pH changes. The multicompartment micelles are formed in aqueous solution of ABC triblock terpolymers consisting of a hydrophobic polybutadiene block, a weak polyanionic poly(methacrylic acid) block, and a weak polycationic poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) block. They are subsequently immobilized on silicon wafer surfaces by dip-coating. In a polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) triblock copolymer (SBM) a morphological transition from a lamellar (ll) morphology (with sequence ABCB) to the knitting pattern (kp) morphology occurs upon hydrogenation of the center PB block. Structural information of the nonhydrogenated and the hydrogenated material is provided from small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). For the nonhydrogenated SBM sample the SAXS profile correlates well with a simple periodic lamellar structure. The hydrogenated sample forming the kp morphology displays a more complex SAXS pattern.
