Modulating the DNA cleavage ability of copper(II) Schiff bases through ternary complex formation

2018

Copper(II) complexes with the potentially tridentate Schiff bases N-[(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine (H2L1) and N-[(2-hydroxynaphthanyl)methylidene]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine (H2L2) have been synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of the metal in an electrochemical cell containing a solution of the corresponding ligand in acetonitrile. Adducts of these compounds with 2,2′-bipyridine (2,2′-bpy), 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) were also obtained. The complexes have been characterized by microanalysis, mass spectrometry, EPR, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopies, as well as DFT calculations. The ligand H2L1 and the compounds [CuL1(H2O)]·…

Electrochemically-driven conformational shift in mono- and di-copper constrained macrotricyclic cyclen receptors

2008

International audience; An electrochemical study of mono- and di-copper constrained cyclen macrotricycles is presented. Electrochemical data in DMF solution indicate that the reduction of dinuclear complexes occurs in two steps in the -0.4 to -0.8 V vs.AgCl/Ag potential range yielding CuII CuI and CuI CuI species further reduced to Cu metal at highly negative potentials. Mononuclear complexes are reduced in two steps to CuI and Cu metal. Electrochemical data suggest that reduction of both mononuclear and dinuclear complexes approach a square scheme involving electrochemically-driven conformational shifts for metal ions. The presence of endo- and exo-forms of the complexes are revealed by ch…

New, Multi‐Dimensional Cu(tn)‐[M(CN) 6 ] n – Cyano‐Bridged, Bimetallic Coordination Materials (M = Fe II , Co III , Cr III and tn = 1,3‐Diaminopropan…

2005

Reaction of the [Fe I I I (CN) 6 ] 3 - anion with [Cu I I (tn)(H 2 O) n ] 2 + (tn = 1,3-diaminopropane) affords the compounds [{Cu I I (tn)} 2 -{Fe I I (CN) 6 }].KCl.5H 2 O (1), [(Cu"(tn))2(Fe"(CN) 6 )].4H 2 O (2), and [{Cu I I (tnH) 2 (H 2 O) 2 }{Fe I I (CN) 6 }].2H 2 O (3). Each iron center in 1 and 2 is linked to six copper(II) ions by six cyanide bridges, while each copper ion is linked to three equivalent iron(II) ions. Despite these resemblances, the two compounds present large structural differences caused by two different orientations of the Cu-NC-Fe bridges: compound 1 has a 2D structure which can be described as successions of "Cu 4 Fe 3 " defective cubane units, while compound 2 …

Magneto-structural correlations in asymmetric oxalato-bridged dicopper(II) complexes with polymethyl-substituted pyrazole ligands

2018

Two oxalato-bridged dinuclear copper(II) complexes, [{Cu(Hdmpz)3}2(μ-ox)](ClO4)2·2H2O (1) and [{Cu(Htmpz)3}2(μ-ox)](ClO4)2·2H2O (2) (Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole and Htmpz = 3,4,5-trimethyl-1H-pyrazole), have been synthesized and structurally and magnetically characterized. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 consist of asymmetric bis-bidentate μ-oxalatodicopper(II) complex cations with two short [Cu–O = 1.976(2) (1) and 1.973(2) Å (2)] and two long copper–oxygen bonds [Cu–O = 2.122(2) (1) and 2.110(2) Å (2)]. The environment at each CuII ion in 1 and 2 is closer to the trigonal bipyramidal geometry than to the square pyramidal [τ = 0.633 (1) and 0.711 (2)]. The magnetic properties of 1 a…

Synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the cyclic tetranuclear compound [Cu4(pz)4(hppa)2(H2O)4] [pz = pyrazolate; hppa = R,S-2-hydro…

2019

Abstract The synthesis, X-ray structure and magnetic properties of the neutral tetranuclear copper(II) complex of formula [Cu4(pz)4(hppa)2(H2O)4] (1) [Hpz = pyrazole and hppa = R,S-2-hydroxo-2-phenyl-2-(1-pyrazolyl)acetate] are reported. Remarkably, the structure of 1 reveals the presence of the S- and R-forms of the new hppa ligand which is formed in situ in the complex reaction between copper(II), pyrazole and phenylmalonate in water:methanol solvent mixture under ambient conditions. The two crystallographically independent copper(II) ions [Cu(1)/Cu(2)] are five-coordinate in square pyramidal surroundings. Three nitrogen atoms, from two pz groups and one hppa ligand and one oxygen atom of…

Decrespignyite-(Y), a new copper yttrium rare earth carbonate chloride hydrate from Paratoo, South Australia

2002

AbstractDecrespignyite-(Y) is a new copper yttrium rare earth carbonate chloride hydrate from the Paratoo copper mine, near Yunta, Olary district, South Australia. Decrespignyite-(Y) occurs as blue crusts, coatings and fillings in thin fissures on the slatey country rock. Individual pseudohexagonal platelets are typically 10–50 µm in maximum dimension and are often curved. Associated minerals include caysichite-(Y), donnayite-(Y), malachite and kamphaugite-(Y). Electron microprobe and CHN analyses gave: Y2O3 42.2; La2O3 0.1; Pr2O3 0.1; Nd2O3 1.3; Sm2O3 1.0; Gd2O3 4; Tb2O3 0.4; Dy2O3 3.7; Ho2O3 2.6; Er2O3 2.5; CaO 0.5; CuO 10.9; Cl 3.0; CO2 19.8; H2O 10.8, yielding an empirical formula of (Y…

Copper supply during the Final Neolithic at the Saint-Blaise/Bains des Dames site (Neuchâtel, Switzerland)

2009

The Saint-Blaise/Bains des Dames stratified site in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, contains several occupations that span the Late through Final Neolithic, including the Horgen, Lüscherz, and Auvernier-Cordé periods. As part of a study on prehistoric metallurgy in western Switzerland, we compare the lead isotope ratios (multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer) and elemental compositions (instrumental neutron activation analysis) of the site's numerous copper finds to a database of corresponding measurements for copper ores throughout Europe. The results show a considerable variation in copper compositions present at the site, suggesting complex economic relationships and multip…

Copper quality and sources in Middle Bronze Age I Byblos and Tell Arqa (Lebanon)

2013

Abstract Forty-four Middle Bronze Age I weapons discovered at the sites of Byblos and Tell Arqa in Lebanon were investigated in order to study their copper quality and provenance. The evaluation of copper qualities is based on quantifying permanent inclusions such as copper sulfide and lead globules. The provenance of copper was studied using lead isotope analyses. For further discrimination between copper groups and sources elemental analyses by PIXE were performed on some of the weapons investigated. The results revealed two copper groups that could be qualified as “dirty” copper and “clean” copper. The former was used in most of the weapon types whereas the latter was reserved for items …
