Environmental management issues have received an increased amount of attention in recent years, as have various performance measurement systems (PMS) such as the balanced scorecard (BSC). However, implementation of these systems is challenging due to the differences found amongst the companies and users of PMS. This study investigates how the presence of particular supporting factors served to facilitate a PMS change that incorporated environmental measures. Abstract Web retailers invest significant resources to improve the proportion of website visitors that make a purchase, also known as the conversion rate. Improving this rate is particularly important to SMEs that have traditionally lagged behind larger firms as they have found it difficult to justify the significant investment involved in website development against the historical low returns associated with an online sales channel. Abstract Typologies can be an adequate tool for analyzing the complex cause–effect relationships between innovation and the supply of university courses. This study presents a new theoretical perspective on causal core and periphery factors for MOOC-intensiveness in universities using fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). The findings show how this new theoretical perspective allows for two different typologies. Characterization of the Altered Zone Around a Fracture in Palmottu Natural Analogue

AbstractA drill core sample penetrating at a natural fracture has been analysed by helium gas techniques and by α-autoradiography. Porosity and diffusivity profiles away from the fracture have been determined and compared with structural profiles. Model calculations are used to determine the effects of sample size on the measured porosities and diffusivities.
Hydrothermal liquefaction of wood using a modified multistage shrinking-core model

Abstract Wood liquefaction in hot compressed water is modeled using the hydrolysis of Cellulose, Hemicellulose, and Lignin. These three components are reacted under catalyst-free subcritical conditions in a temperature range from 553 K to 640 K, and the heating rate ranges from 2 K/min to 6 K/min. Using a simplified reaction scheme, water-soluble products 1 (WSP), Biocrude, char, and gas are generated through intermediates with each wood component. A modified multistage shrinking core model is employed to simulate biomass particle degradation. Raman Spectroscopic Fingerprints of Atomically Precise Ligand Protected Noble Metal Clusters: Au 38 (PET) 24 and Au 38− x Ag x (PET) 24

Distinct Raman spectroscopic signatures of the metal core of atomically precise, ligand-protected noble metal nanoclusters are reported using Au38 (PET)24 and Au38- x Agx (PET)24 (PET = 2-phenylethanethiolate, -SC2 H4 C6 H5 ) as model systems. The fingerprint Raman features (occurring <200 cm-1 ) of these clusters arise due to the vibrations involving metal atoms of their Au23 or Au23- x Agx cores. A distinct core breathing vibrational mode of the Au23 core has been observed at 90 cm-1 . Whereas the breathing mode shifts to higher frequencies with increasing Ag content of the cluster, the vibrational signatures due to the outer metal-ligand staple motifs (between 200 and 500 cm-1 ) do not s…

Determination of Bubble Size Distribution Using Ultrasound Array Imaging

In this article, ultrasonic phased arrays are deployed as an imaging tool for industrial process analysis. Such arrays are typically used for sonar, medical diagnosis, and nondestructive testing; however, they have not yet been applied to industrial process analysis. The precise positioning of array elements and high frequencies possible with this technology mean that highly focused images can be generated, which cannot currently be achieved using ultrasound tomography. Silica nanoparticle core structure examined by the E?Si? center 29Si strong hyperfine interaction

Abstract β-Ray irradiation up to 1.2 GGy was employed to induce E′Si γ defects and to study the structure of silica nanoparticles with diameters from 7 up to 20 nm. Defect concentration and their 29 Si strong hyperfine doublet were investigated through electron paramagnetic resonance measurements. Our data indicate that stable defects are located in the nanoparticle core. Furthermore, the E′Si γ hyperfine interaction evidences that the core structure is denser than bulk silica and independent from the particle size. Finally, we put in evidence that the core structure is stable and unaffected by the irradiation in the investigated dose range maintaining the specific features of nanoparticles.
