A 5500-year oxygen isotope record of high arctic environmental change from southern Spitsbergen
2017
The oxygen isotope composition of chironomid head capsules in a sediment core spanning the past 5500 years from Lake Svartvatnet in southern Spitsbergen was used to reconstruct the oxygen isotope composition of lake water (δ18Olw) and local precipitation. The δ18Olw values display shifts from the baseline variability consistent with the timing of recognized historical climatic episodes, such as the Roman Warm Period, the Dark Ages Cold Period and the ‘Little Ice Age’. The highest values of the record, ca. 3‰ above modern δ18Olw values, occur at ca. 1900–1800 cal. yr BP. Three negative excursions increasing in intensity toward the present, at 3400–3200, 1250–1100, and 350–50 cal. yr BP, are…
Datu kvalitātes analīzes rīku piemērotības novērtējums un to trūkumu noteikšana tiešsaistes datu kvalitātes rīka izstrādei
2021

Non-Linear Inductors Characterization in Real Operating Conditions for Power Density Optimization in SMPS
2021
The exploitation of power inductors outside their linear region in switching converters can be achieved by raising the current until a decreasing of the inductance can be noticed. It allows using a smaller magnetic core increasing the power density of the converter. On the other hand, a detailed description of the magnetization curve including the temperature is required. Since this information is often not included in the inductor’s datasheets, this paper shows how to identify the behavior of an inductor when it is operated up to saturation and its temperature rises. In order to characterize the inductor in real operating conditions, a dedicated measurement rig has been developed. It consi…
Collaborative Musical Creativity between Students and Adults: The Sonorous Paella
2021
While creativity is a key element of contemporary curriculum frameworks around the world, it is still insufficiently fostered in formal education settings. This study analyzes a project for collaborative musical creativity, entitled The Sonorous Paella. Participants (N = 12) were eight Year 4 secondary students, two professional musicians, an artist-in-residence, and a music teacher. Drawing on a graphic musical score, the participants worked together for 1.5 months to produce a group composition and performance. They were provided with various sound producers (instruments, everyday objects, technological devices) and were encouraged to flexibly utilize the physical space to maximize collab…
Novel method for functionalising and patterning textile composites:Liquid resin print
2016
Abstract The paper reports a novel method of integrating resin into continuous textile reinforcement. The method presents a print of liquid reactive resin into textile preforms. A series of targeted injections forms a patch which upon consolidation and curing transforms into a stiff region continuously spanning through preform thickness. Enhancing the injected resin with conductive phase allows creating a pattern of patches with controlled dimensions and added functionalities. Patterned composites reveal features which are not typical for conventional composites such as fibre bridged interfaces, regular thickness variation, and gradient matrix properties. The presented study explores the ro…
Identification of efficient equilibria in multiproduct trading with indivisibilities and non-monotonicity
2018
Abstract This paper focuses on multiproduct trading with indivisibilities and where a representative agent may have non-monotonic preferences. In this framework, the set of firms’ profits (which comes from efficient subgame perfect Nash equilibria) is the Pareto frontier of some projection of the core of the game. We show that under monotonicity efficient subgame perfect Nash equilibria are achieved by single offers and the equilibrium characterization is easy to obtain. When dealing with non-monotonic preferences the problem becomes more challenging. Then, we define a pair of primal–dual linear programming problems that fully identifies the core of the game. A set of modified versions of t…
An active bivergent rolling-hinge detachment system: Central Menderes metamorphic core complex in western Turkey.
2001
Two symmetrically arranged detachment systems delimit the central Menderes metamorphic core complex and define a bivergent continental breakaway zone in the Anatolide belt of western Turkey. Structural analysis and apatite fission-track thermochronology show that a large east-trending syncline within the Alpine nappe stack in the central part of the orogen is related to late Miocene-early Pliocene to recent core-complex formation. The syncline formed as a result of two opposite-facing rolling hinges in the footwalls of each of the two detachments. Back-rotation of the syncline limbs suggests that the detachments rotated from an initial dip of 50 degrees -60 degrees to a currently shallow or…
Promotion of osteogenic cell response using quasicovalent immobilized fibronectin on titanium surfaces: introduction of a novel biomimetic layer syst…
2012
Purpose Despite the undeniable potential of cell adhesion molecules such as fibronectin to support osteogenic cell responses and consecutive dental implant healing, the most beneficial mode of application onto titanium implant surfaces still requires investigation. Unspecific fibronectin adsorption on titanium dioxide (TiO2) surfaces can result in low-loading, high-desorption rates and protein–metal interactions with impaired biologic activity. The aim of the present study was to monitor the osteogenic cell responses (cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation) specifically to fibronectin biofunctionalized TiO2. Materials and Methods An innovative biomimetic streptavidin-biotin layer…
Dendritic cell aggresome-like-induced structure formation and delayed antigen presentation coincide in influenza virus-infected dendritic cells.
2005
Abstract Influenza virus infection induces maturation of murine dendritic cells (DCs), which is most important for the initiation of an immune response. However, in contrast to EL-4 and MC57 cells, DCs present viral CTL epitopes with a delay of up to 10 h. This delay in Ag presentation coincides with the up-regulation of MHC class I molecules as well as costimulatory molecules on the cell surface and the accumulation of newly synthesized ubiquitinated proteins in large cytosolic structures, called DC aggresome-like-induced structures (DALIS). These structures were observed previously after LPS-induced maturation of DCs, and it was speculated that they play a role in the regulation of MHC cl…
