cARTegory Theory: Framing Aesthetics of Mathematics
2019
Mathematics can help investigate hidden patterns and structures in music and visual arts. Also, math in and of itself possesses an intrinsic beauty. We can explore such a specific beauty through the comparison of objects and processes in math with objects and processes in the arts. Recent experimental studies investigate the aesthetics of mathematical proofs compared to those of music. We can contextualize these studies within the framework of category theory applied to the arts (cARTegory theory), thanks to the helpfulness of categories for the analysis of transformations and transformations of transformations. This approach can be effective for the pedagogy of mathematics, mathematical mu…
The Post-COVID-19 Functional Status scale: a tool to measure functional status over time after COVID-19
2020
Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, most attention has focused on containing transmission of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and addressing the surge of critically ill patients in acute care settings. Indeed, as of April 29th 2020, over 3 million confirmed cases have been accounted for globally [1]. In the coming weeks and months, emphasis will gradually involve also post-acute care of COVID-19 survivors. It is anticipated that COVID-19 may have a major impact on physical, cognitive, mental and social health status, also in patients with mild disease presentation [2]. Previous outbreaks of coronaviruses have been associate…
The Adult Sprague-Dawley Sugen-Hypoxia Rat Is Still "the One:" A Model of Group 1 Pulmonary Hypertension: Reply to Le Cras and Abman
2020
To the editor: Kojonazarov et al. recently reported severe emphysema in the SU5416/Hypoxia (SuHx) rat model of pulmonary hypertension (1). The authors found that adult male Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats had increased air-to-tissue ratio as judged by non-gated in vivo micro-computed tomography (CT), and an increased mean linear intercept (MLI) as surrogate of emphysema (1, 2). Le Cras and Abman now responded to the Kojonazarov report by underlining the “important role of the developmental timing of disrupted VEGF signaling” (3). They cite earlier studies conducted on the ovine fetus showing that VEGF inhibition caused vascular remodeling, reduction in vascular/airway growth, and neonatal pulmonary…
Oropharyngeal dysphagia: when swallowing disorders meet respiratory diseases
2017
We were very interested in the comments made by I. Cavedies and co-workers regarding our paper entitled “Oropharyngeal dysphagia: when swallowing disorders meet respiratory diseases” [1].

Influence of the gaze-stabilizing eye movements on the quality of the retinal image of the human eye
2000
In this work we have studied the influence of the gaze stabilizing movements of the eye on the quality of the retinal image of the human eye obtained by double pass methods. The results obtained agree with the expected differences between the coherent and incoherent behaviour of the optical system of the eye. The movements-free retinal image is obtained from a typical retinal image by considering a filter function in the frequency domain which characterizes the effect of the considered movements.
Lysty Štefana Hudaka do Oleksy Myšanyča
2019
In this publication is presented the correspondence between Ukrainian Academic Oleksa Myshnych and Štefan Hudak, a writer and journalist and from community of Rusyns of Bačka and Sirmium (Vojvodina, Serbia). Published documents allow to analyze the cultural and national identity of Š. Hudak and to know more about the cultural life of Rusyns in former Yugoslavia.
Spectral properties of correlation matrices for some hierarchically nested factor models
2007
We show that spectral methods, such as Principal Component Analysis and Random Matrix Theory, are unable to reveal the hierarchical (or nested) structure of a set of mutivariate data. We consider the method introduced in M. Tumminello et al., EPL 78, 30006 (2007) to associate a hierarchical factor model with a set of data by making use of clustering algorithms. This is done by proving the existence of a bijective correspondence between a hierarchical tree and a factor model.
