Possible neutron and proton halo structure in the isobaric analog states of A=12 nuclei

The differential cross sections of the 11B(3He,d)12C reaction leading to formation of the 0+ ground state and the 15.11-MeV 1 +, 16.57-MeV 2−, and 17.23-MeV 1− excited states of 12C are measured at Elab=25 MeV. The analysis of the data is carried out within the coupled-reaction-channels method for the direct proton transfer to the bound and unbound states. The rms radii of the last proton in all states studied are determined. A comparison of the rms radii of the 12B, 12C, and 12N nuclei in the isobaric analog states (IASs) with isospin T=1 determined by different methods allows us to arrive at a conclusion that these nuclei in the 1− excited states at Ex=2.62, 17.23, and 1.80 MeV, respectiv…

Collectivity in ${}^{\mathrm{196,198}}$Pb isotopes probed in Coulomb-excitation experiments at REX-ISOLDE

The neutron-deficient ${}^{\mathrm{196,198}}$Pb isotopes have been studied in Coulomb-excitation experiments employing the Miniball γ-ray spectrometer and radioactive ion beams from the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator at CERN. The reduced transition probabilities of the first excited 2+ states in 196Pb and 198Pb nuclei have been measured for the first time. Values of $B(E2)={18.2}_{-4.1}^{+4.8}$ W.u. and $B(E2)={13.1}_{-3.5}^{+4.9}$ W.u., were obtained, respectively. Testing microscopically derived descriptions of nuclear collectivity: Coulomb excitation of Mg-22

Many-body nuclear theory utilizing microscopic or chiral potentials has developed to the point that collectivity might be dealt with in an {\it ab initio} framework without the use of effective charges; for example with the proper evolution of operators, or alternatively, through the use of an appropriate and manageable subset of particle-hole excitations. We present a precise determination of $E2$ strength in $^{22}$Mg and its mirror $^{22}$Ne by Coulomb excitation, allowing for rigorous comparisons with theory. The kinetics of diffusion-controlled annealing of Frenkel defects in alkali halide crystals

Abstract The annealing kinetics of the strongly correlated (the so-called geminate) pairs of both neutral F,H centers as well as F, I centers entering secondary triplets (F…Ihellip; self-trapped hole) in KCl and KBr crystals is calculated. In this model diffusion of hole I and H centers and their annihilation with electron F centers at short relative distances stimulated by the elastic or Coulomb interaction are taken into account. It is demonstrated that F,H pairs are destroyed by tunneling recombination already at times ≤ 10−4 s, i.e. much before the beginning of the thermostimulated experiments. A possible explanation of this contradiction is discussed.

Concept of a high-resolution online mass separator for the Munich fission fragment accelerator

A fission fragment accelerator combined with the Munich high-flux reactor FRM-II is under design for the delivery of intense beams of mass separated very neutron-rich fission fragments with energies at the Coulomb barrier They can be used to produce very heavy neutron-rich nuclei in fusion reactions. The large neutron excess will result in much longer lifetimes of the produced heavy elements, compared to neutron-deficient ones produced in reactions with stable nuclear beams. Evidence for quasi-fission in40Ar+208Pb collisions near the coulomb-barrier

1987

Fission-fragment angular distributions were measured in the reaction of40Ar with208Pb near the fusion barrier. For nearly symmetric mass-/charge splits we find angular distributions symmetric around θ=90 degrees, however, with unusually large anisotropies. These develop gradually into forward-backward asymmetric distributions as one moves away from mass-/charge symmetry. This indicates that non-compound fission (‘quasi-fission’) competes with true fusion-fission. The relative contribution of quasi-fission to the total fission cross section is somewhere between 51 and 85%. The REX-ISOLDE project

Abstract REX-ISOLDE [1] is an experiment at ISOLDE/CERN with a twofold aim: (i) to demonstrate a novel efficient scheme for the acceleration of radioactive ions from the online mass separator ISOLDE to energies around the Coulomb barrier. (ii) to perform first nuclear physics experiments by studying the structure of the neutron-rich (N = 20, N = 28) nuclei by Coulomb excitation and neutron transfer reactions. An overview on the different components of the radioactive beam accelerator is given with special emphasis on the separation possibilities and ion number capabilities of the system.

Isospin mixing and the continuum coupling in weakly bound nuclei

The isospin breaking effects due to the Coulomb interaction in weakly-bound nuclei are studied using the Gamow Shell Model, a complex-energy configuration interaction approach which simultaneously takes into account many-body correlations between valence nucleons and continuum effects. We investigate the near-threshold behavior of one-nucleon spectroscopic factors and the structure of wave functions along an isomultiplet. Illustrative calculations are carried out for the T=1 isobaric triplet. Charged kaon femtoscopic correlations inppcollisions ats=7  TeV

Correlations of two charged identical kaons (KchKch) are measured in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). One-dimensional (KKch)-K-ch correlation functions are constructed in three multiplicity and four transverse momentum ranges. The (KKch)-K-ch femtoscopic source parameters R and lambda are extracted. The (KKch)-K-ch correlations show a slight increase of femtoscopic radii with increasing multiplicity and a slight decrease of radii with increasing transverse momentum. These trends are similar to the ones observed for pi pi and K-s(0) K-s(0) correlations in pp and heavy-ion collisions. However at high multiplicities, there is an indica…
