Spin transport in ferromagnetic/normal-metal tunnel junction arrays
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Physical Review B. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.85.094421 An array of alternating ferromagnetic and normal-metal islands separated by small tunnel junctions is theoretically investigated in the sequential tunneling regime. A numerical Monte Carlo method is used to calculate the transport properties. The spin-dependent tunneling currents give rise to nonequilibrium spin accumulation on the normal island. The tunneling magneto resistance (TMR) is calculated for a large range of array parameters. The TMR oscillates with bias voltage and can become negative for certain array parameters. We show that the long…

Potentials and Electronic Structure Calculations of Non-regular Nanosystems
2017
Methods of numerical investigations of potentials and pseudopotentials for fundamental properties calculations (electronic, vibrational, electron-phonon phenomena, etc.) of condensed matter constitute a basic principle of modelling. It is very essential to find specific analytical approaches to the calculation of atomic and ‘crystalline’ potentials to make the calculations most effective. In particular, we pay attention to the modelling of pure Coulomb contributions and their exchange-correlation corrections in the framework of Xα- и Xαβ-approximations.
Feasibility of Coulomb blockade thermometry in metrology
2000
Abstract Coulomb blockade thermometer (CBT) is a simple, magnetic-field-independent primary thermometer for everyday use at cryogenic temperatures. Its properties are well understood by now. The absolute accuracy at present is about ±0.5%. Recently, we have started studying the possibility of using CBT in metrological applications. We have especially in mind the future extension of the international temperature scale below 0.65 K, which is the lower end of ITS-90. Experiments with arrays containing more than 100 tunnel junctions in series are in progress in order to decrease the effects of electromagnetic environment and of co-tunnelling even below the present level.
Coulomb interaction in disordered metals and HTSC
2001
Abstract We consider underdoped or overdoped cuprates as disordered conductors. The diffusion coefficient D can be as low as 10 −5 m 2 s −1 . Under these conditions Coulomb interaction between electrons must be taken into account. The main effect is to open a dip in the density of state near the Fermi level. We show that this model explains most of the observed features of the so-called “pseudogap” in the normal state including its value, anisotropy and variation with doping. Such a model applied to disordered metals explains the dips observed in conductance measurements.
Observation of sequential spin flips in quantum rings
2011
We observe strong signatures of spin flips in quantum rings exposed to external magnetic fields in the Coulomb blockade regime. The signatures appear as a pattern of lines corresponding to local reduction of conductance, and they cover a large range of magnetic fields and number of electrons. The sequence of lines, as well as other features in the conductance, can be captured by many-electron calculations within density-functional theory. The calculations show that most lines in the pattern correspond to sequential spin flips between filling factors 2 and 1. We believe that the ability to probe individual spin flips provides an important step toward precise spin control in quantum ring devi…
Cross-sections for (e, 3e) collisions on helium: the DS6C wavefunction
2006
A dynamically screened product of six pairwise Coulomb functions (DS6C) is used as an analytic approximation to describe the four-body Coulomb continuum state produced by electron-impact full fragmentation of helium. Good agreement is obtained with experimental data close to threshold, where four-body effects are expected to be important. Even for the high impact energy of 640 eV, four-body effects still play a role in deciding the shape of multi-differential cross-sections.

Approximate triangle amplitude for three-body charge exchange processes.
1996
The single-rescattering contribution to the amplitude pertaining to three-body charge exchange reactions (triangle amplitude) contains the off-shell Coulomb {ital T}-matrix {ital T}{sup {ital C}} describing the intermediate-state Coulomb scattering of charged subsystems. For ease of computation, the latter is usually replaced by the potential {ital V}{sup {ital C}} which, however, is unsatisfactory in many cases. An alternative approximation, obtained by {open_quote}{open_quote}renormalizing{close_quote}{close_quote} the {open_quote}{open_quote}triangle{close_quote}{close_quote} contribution with {ital V}{sup {ital C}} instead of {ital T}{sup {ital C}} by a simple analytic expression, is sh…
Proton-induced deuteron breakup reaction2H(p, pp)n
1994
The “screening and renormalization” approach allows for a mathematically correct incorporation, in three-body scattering theory, of the long-ranged Coulomb interaction between charged particles. It is based on first calculating the transition amplitudes using screened Coulomb potentials. Then, after renormalization the zero-screening limit, leading to the amplitudes pertaining to unscreened Coulomb potentials, is performed numerically. Within this formalism the proton-induced breakup of deuterons is investigated, with the Coulomb repulsion between the two protons taken into account. Kinematically complete differential cross sections in various kinematic configurations are calculated and com…
