Collective mass parameters and linear response techniques in three-dimensional grids

1984

We discuss four prescriptions for evaluating a collective mass parameter suitable for translations, rotations and large amplitude collective motions. These are the adiabatic time dependent Hartree-Fock theory (ATDHF) and the generator coordinate method (GCM), both with and without curvature corrections. As practical example we consider the16O+16O collision using a recently developed density dependent interaction with direct Yukawa and Coulomb terms. We present a fast iteration scheme for solving the linear response equation in a three-dimensional coordinate or momentum space grid. As test cases we consider the rotational and translational inertia parameters for various distances between the…

Momentum space integral equations for three charged particles: Nondiagonal kernels

2000

Standard solution methods are known to be applicable to Faddeev-type momentum space integral equations for three-body transition amplitudes, not only for purely short-range interactions but also, after suitable modifications, for potentials possessing Coulomb tails provided the total energy is below the three-body threshold. For energies above that threshold, however, long-range Coulomb forces have been suspected to give rise to such severe singularities in the kernels, even of the modified equations, that their compactness properties are lost. Using the rigorously equivalent formulation in terms of an effective-two-body theory we prove that, for all energies, the nondiagonal kernels occurr…

Weak channels in backscattering of20Ne onnatNi,118Sn, and208Pb

2012

To further our understanding of the influence of weakly coupled channels on the distribution of Coulomb barrier heights, we have measured transfer cross sections for ${}^{20}$Ne ions backscattered from ${}^{\mathrm{nat}}$Ni, ${}^{118}$Sn, and ${}^{208}$Pb targets at near-barrier energies. The $Q$ value spectrum in the case of ${}^{208}$Pb target has been determined too. The transfer channels appear to be especially important for ${}^{208}$Pb, whose double-closed-shell nature leads to a relatively low level density for noncollective inelastic excitations.

Influence of Coulomb distortion on polarization observables in elastic electromagnetic lepton hadron scattering at low energies

2011

The formal expression for the most general polarization observable in elastic electromagnetic lepton hadron scattering at low energies is derived for the nonrelativistic regime. For the explicit evaluation the influence of Coulomb distortion on various polarization observables is calculated in a distorted wave Born approximation. Besides the hyperfine interaction also the spin-orbit interactions of lepton and hadron are included. For like charges the Coulomb repulsion reduces strongly the size of polarization observables compared to the plane wave Born approximation whereas for opposite charges the Coulomb attraction leads to a substantial increase of these observables for hadron lab kineti…

Low-lying levels of201Hg from the decay of201Au

1972

The decay of 26.4-min201Au has been investigated using chemically separated sources and Ge(Li), Si(Li), plastic and Nal(Tl) detectors in different singles and coincidence arrangements. The β-disintegration energy was measured to be 1.27 ± 0.10 MeV. Thirteen γ-rays were observed to belong to this decay and the new levels at 543, 549.2, 552.8, 559.1, 605.7, 645.4, 732 and 1188 keV were established in201Hg, in addition to the three previously known excited states below 200 keV.

Three-body Coulomb interaction effects in the final state of thePb208(B8,Be7p)Pb208Coulomb breakup reaction

2005

The photodissociation reaction $^{8}\mathrm{B}+\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{7}\mathrm{Be}+p$ is used to provide information on the astrophysical ${S}_{17}$ factor of the inverse radiative capture reaction, knowledge of which is crucial for an estimation of the high-energy neutrino flux from the sun. Since, at present, the Coulomb field of a fully stripped nucleus serves as the source of the photons, an adequate analysis requires a genuine three-body treatment of this reaction. Among the uncertainties still affecting present analyses, the possible modification of the dissociation cross section by the post-decay acceleration of the fragments $^{7}\mathrm{Be}$ and p in the targ…

Measurement of the dipole response of neutron-rich nuclei in the A∼20 region

2002

Abstract Coulomb break up of the neutron-rich 15,17 C and 17–22 O isotopes has been studied experimentally using secondary beams at energies of 500–600 MeV/u. A comparison between differential cross sections, d σ/ d E ∗ , with that obtained from a binary model shows that the main ground-state configuration of 15 C is 14 C(0 + )⊗ ν S 1/2 as expected. For 17 C, our preliminary data analysis reveals that the predominant (∼64%) configuration of the ground state is 16 C(2 + )⊗ ν s , d . For 17–22 O, the low-lying E1 strength amounts up to about 12% of the energy weighted sum rule strength depending on neutron number. The energy weighted E1 strength (integrated up to 15 MeV excitation energy) inc…

Dipole response of neutron-rich Sn isotopes

2007

The neutron-rich isotopes 129–133Sn were studied in a Coulomb excitation experiment at about 500 AMeV using the FRS-LAND setup at GSI. From the exclusive measurement of all projectile-like particles following the excitation and decay of the projectile in a high-Z target, the energy differential cross section can be extracted. At these beam energies dipole transitions are dominating, and within the semi-classical approach the Coulomb excitation cross sections can be transformed into photoabsorption cross sections. In contrast to stable Sn nuclei, a substantial fraction of dipole strength is observed at energies below the giant dipole resonance (GDR). For 130Sn and 132Sn this strength is loca…

Mirror symmetry at high spin in51Feand51Mn

2000

Gamma decays from excited states in the ${T}_{z}=\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{2}$ nucleus ${}^{51}$Fe have been observed for the first time. The differences in excitation energies as compared with those of the mirror partner, ${}^{51}$Mn, have been interpreted in terms of Coulomb effects and the resulting Coulomb energy differences (CED) can be understood intuitively in terms of particle-alignment effects. A new CED effect has been observed, in which different CED trends have been measured for each signature of the rotational structures that characterize these mid-${f}_{7/2}$ shell nuclei. Large-scale $\mathrm{fp}$-shell model calculations have been used to compute the trends of the CED as a func…

Non-analog β decay of 74Rb

2001

The magnitude of the Coulomb mixing parameter δ 1 has been experimentally deduced, for the first time, for the β decay of 74 Rb. The estimated magnitude is derived from the feeding of the non-analog first excited 0 + state in 74 Kr. The inferred upper limit of 0.07% is small compared to theoretical predictions. The half-life was measured to be 64.90(9) ms.  2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
