Leptogenesis with Single Right-Handed Neutrino Dominance

2001

We make an analytic and numerical study of leptogenesis in the framework of the (Supersymmetric) Standard Model plus the see-saw mechanism with a U(1) family symmetry and single right-handed neutrino dominance. In presenting our analytic and numerical results we make a clear distinction between the theoretically clean asymmetry parameter $\epsilon_1$ and the baryon asymmetry $Y_B$. In calculating $Y_B$ we propose and use a fit to the solutions to the Boltzmann equations which gives substantially more reliable results than parametrisations previously used in the literature. Our results show that there is a decoupling between the low energy neutrino observables and the leptogenesis prediction…

Neff versus the lightest neutrino mass

2016

AbstractWithin the framework of low-scale Type I seesaw models with two and three extra sterile neutrinos we evaluate the production of the sterile states in the Early Universe. We explore the full parameter space and find that in the model with two extra states both of them reach thermal equilibrium with the primordial plasma. In the model with three sterile neutrinos, if the lightest active neutrino mass is below O(10−3eV) one sterile neutrino might not thermalize, while the other two always reach thermalization. Applying constrains from both extra radiation at BBN and CMB, and the dark matter allowed abundance, we show that the spectra of heavier states are severely restricted in the mas…

Spin-dipole nuclear matrix elements for double beta decays and astro-neutrinos

2014

Spin-dipole (SD) nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) M±(SD2) for unique first forbidden β±2−→0+ ground-state-to-ground-state transitions are studied by using effective microscopic two-nucleon interactions in realistic single-particle model spaces. The observed values of the NMEs Mexp±(SD2) are compared with the values of the single-quasiparticle NMEs Mqp±(SD2) without nucleon spin–isospin (στ) correlation and the QRPA NMEs MQRPA±(SD2) with the στ correlation. The observed SD matrix elements are found to be reduced by the factor k≈0.2 with respect to Mqp±(SD2) and by the factor kNM≈0.5 with respect to MQRPA±(SD2). We then infer that the SD NME is reduced considerably partly by the nucleon στ corr…

Coherent pion production induced by protons and light ions

1995

Abstract We study coherent pion production by means of the (p,n) and (He,t) reactions on different nuclei and at different energies of the projectile. Energy and angular distributions are calculated. The angular distributions are rather narrow along the direction of the momentum transfer, particularly in heavy nuclei. The reaction is sensitive to the longitudinal part of the elementary NN→NΔ interaction. It also provides a new tool to obtain information on the pion-nuclear interaction, complementary to that offered by reactions with real pions.

Quenching of gA deduced from the β-spectrum shape of 113Cd measured with the COBRA experiment

2018

A dedicated study of the quenching of the weak axial-vector coupling strength $g_{\rm A}$ in nuclear processes has been performed by the COBRA collaboration. This investigation is driven by nuclear model calculations which show that the $\beta$-spectrum shape of the fourfold forbidden non-unique decay of $^{113}$Cd strongly depends on the effective value of $g_{\rm A}$. Using an array of CdZnTe semiconductor detectors, 45 independent $^{113}$Cd spectra were obtained and interpreted in the context of three nuclear models. The resulting effective mean values are $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{ISM}) = 0.915 \pm 0.007$, $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{MQPM}) = 0.911 \pm 0.013$ and $\bar{g}_{\rm A}(\text{IBFM-2}…

Nuclear magnetic resonance at millitesla fields using a zero-field spectrometer

2016

We describe new analytical capabilities for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments in which signal detection is performed with chemical resolution (via spin-spin J couplings) in the zero to ultra-low magnetic field region, below 1μT. Using magnetic fields in the 100μT to 1mT range, we demonstrate the implementation of conventional NMR pulse sequences with spin-species selectivity.

Experimental evidence for chirality in the odd-A 105Rh

2004

Abstract High-spin states in 105 Rh were populated by the 96 Zr( 13 C, p3n) reaction at beam energies of 51 and 58 MeV, and studied using the EUROBALL IV γ -ray spectrometer and the DIAMANT charged particle array. A pair of nearly degenerate Δ I = 1 three-quasiparticle bands with the same spins and parity have been observed. Comparison of the experimental results with tilted axis cranking calculations confirms the chiral character of the two bands, while arguments based on the excitation of particles within the π g 9 / 2 ν ( h 11 / 2 ) 2 configuration of the yrast band and comparison with the previously observed γ band exclude the other possible interpretations. This is the first experiment…

Constraints on massive sterile neutrino species from current and future cosmological data

2011

Sterile massive neutrinos are a natural extension of the Standard Model of elementary particles. The energy density of the extra sterile massive states affects cosmological measurements in an analogous way to that of active neutrino species. We perform here an analysis of current cosmological data and derive bounds on the masses of the active and the sterile neutrino states as well as on the number of sterile states. The so-called (3+2) models with three sub-eV active massive neutrinos plus two sub-eV massive sterile species is well within the 95% CL allowed regions when considering cosmological data only. If the two extra sterile states have thermal abundances at decoupling, Big Bang Nucle…

Top quark decay in the Aligned two-Higgs-doublet Model

2015

AbstractWe compute the one loop right and left anomalous tensor couplings (gR and gL, respectively) for the top quark, in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. They are the magnetic-like couplings in the most general parameterization of the tbW vertex. We find that the aligned two-Higgs doublet model, that includes as particular cases some of the most studied extensions of the Higgs sector, as Type I and II 2HDM, introduces new electroweak contributions and provides theoretical predictions that are very sensitive to both new scalar masses and the neutral scalar mixing angle. The model can account for new CP violation effects via the introduction of complex alignment parameters that have impo…

Lifetime measurement in 195Po

2009

The lifetime of the 17/2+ yrast state in 195Po has been measured using the recoil distance Doppler-shift technique to be $ \tau$ = 43(11) ps. The lifetime was extracted from the singles $ \gamma$ -ray spectra obtained by using the recoil-decay tagging method. The present work provides more information of the coupling schemes, shapes and configuration mixing in neutron-deficient odd-mass Po nuclei.
