Majorons: a simultaneous solution to the large and small scale dark matter problems
1984
Abstract It is shown that the existence of majorons, which enable a heavy neutrino, 500 eV ≲ mνH ≲ 25 keV to decay into a light neutrino mνL ≲ 8 eV and a majoron, with lifetime 104 yr ≲ τνH ≲ 108 yr can solve both the large and small scale dark matter problems. For a primordial “Zeldovich” spectrum of fluctuations the limits are m v H ≲ 550 eV and τ v H > 107 to 108 yr (the ranges mνH ≲ eV and τνH ≳ 108 yr are allowed by the model but galaxy formation becomes problematic). The large scale dark matter problem is how to achieve the critical density as implied by inflation, the small scale problems deal with the halos of galaxies and galaxy formation and perturbation growth. The heavy neutrino…
K+Λ photoproduction amplitudes incorporating absorptive effects and hypernuclear formation
1989
Incorporating final-state absorptive effects, we have reexamined the γp→K+Λ elementary process to obtain amplitudes which are used for describing photoproduction of hypernuclei. Our model not only resolves the persisting trouble of the small KNΛ coupling constant, but also yields agreement with cross-section data at higher energies. Using our amplitudes, we calculate angular distributions for the reaction16O(γ, K+)Λ16N. While the forward cross-section increases with increasing energy, the total cross-section is found to remain almost constant fromEγ=1.2 GeV through 2 GeV, which suggests that rather low photon energies hold promise for exploration of hypernuclear excitations.
Near threshold photoproduction of eta mesons off the proton.
1995
We have measured precise total and differential cross sections for the reaction $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p\ensuremath{\eta}$ from threshold to 790 MeV at the MAMI accelerator in Mainz with the neutral meson spectrometer TAPS. Resonance parameters of the ${S}_{11}$(1535) resonance and the electromagnetic coupling $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{S}_{11}$ have been extracted from the data. Contributions from the ${D}_{13}$(1520) resonance to $\ensuremath{\eta}$ photoproduction in the threshold region have been identified for the first time via interference terms in the angular distributions.
Proton distortion effects and meson exchange current contributions in the (e,e′p) reaction
1988
It is demonstrated that proton distortion effects could explain the relative enhancement of transverse to longitudinal response in the recent ($e,{e}^{\ensuremath{'}}p$) reactions on $^{12}\mathrm{C}$. The spin-orbit field is essential to bring about this enhancement. The role of the convection current is pointed out. Favorable contributions from pion-pair and isobar-excitation currents are also found.
Motion of compactonlike kinks.
1999
We analyze the ability of a compactonlike kink (i.e., kink with compact support) to execute a stable ballistic propagation in a discrete Klein-Gordon system with anharmonic coupling. We demonstrate that the effects of lattice discreteness, and the presence of a linear coupling between lattice sites, are detrimental to a stable ballistic propagation of the compacton, because of the particular structure of the small-oscillation frequency spectrum of the compacton in which the lower-frequency internal modes enter in direct resonance with phonon modes. Our study reveals the parameter regions for obtaining a stable ballistic propagation of a compactonlike kink. Finally we investigate the interac…
Tau-decay determination of the strong coupling
2019
We review the current status of the determination of the strong coupling from tau decay. Using the most recent release of the ALEPH data, a very comprehensive phenomenological analysis has been performed, exploring all strategies previously considered in the literature and several complementary approaches. Once their actual uncertainties are properly assessed, the results from all adopted methodologies are in excellent agreement, leading to a very robust and reliable value of the strong coupling, $\alpha_s^{(n_f=3)}(m_\tau^2) = 0.328\pm 0.013$, which implies $\alpha_s^{(n_f=5)}(M_Z^2) = 0.1197\pm 0.0015$.
Light-by-light forward scattering sum rules for charmonium states
2017
We apply three forward light-by-light scattering sum rules to charmonium states. We show that these sum rules imply a cancellation between charmonium bound state contributions, which are mostly known from the $\gamma \gamma$ decay widths of these states, and continuum contributions above $D \bar D$ threshold, for which we provide a duality estimate. We also show that two of these sum rules allow to predict the yet unmeasured $\gamma^\ast \gamma$ coupling of the $\chi_{c1}(1P)$ state, which can be tested at present high-luminosity $e^+ e^-$ colliders.
Λb→J/ψK0Λreaction and a hidden-charm pentaquark state with strangeness
2016
We study the Lambda(b) -> J/psi K-0 Lambda reaction considering both the K-0 Lambda interaction with its coupled channels and the J/psi Lambda interaction. The latter is described by taking into account the fact that there are predictions for a hidden-charm state with strangeness that couples to J/psi Lambda By using the coupling of the resonance to J/psi Lambda from these predictions, we show that a neat peak can be observed in the J/psi Lambda invariant mass distribution, rather stable under changes of unknown magnitudes. In some cases, one finds a dip structure associated to that state, but a signal of the state shows up in the J/psi Lambda spectrum.
Search for the Production of Narrowtb¯Resonances in1.9 fb−1ofpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2009
We present new limits on resonant tb production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using 1.9 fb{sup -1} of data recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We reconstruct a putative tb mass in events with a lepton, neutrino candidate, and two or three jets, and search for anomalous tb production as modeled by W{prime} {yields} tb. We set a new limit on a right-handed W{prime} with standard model-like coupling, excluding any mass below 800 GeV at 95% C.L. For any narrow W{prime}-like state with mass above 800 GeV, the cross-section is found to be less than 0.28 pb at 95% C.L. We also present an exclusion of the W{prime} coupling strength versus W{prime} mass.
Ultralight dark photon as a model for early universe dark matter
2019
Dark photon is a massive vector field which interacts only with the physical photon through the kinetic mixing. This coupling is assumed to be weak so that the dark photon becomes almost unobservable in processes with elementary particles, but can serve as a dark matter particle. We argue that in very early Universe ($z>3000$) this vector field may have the equation of state of radiation ($w=1/3$) but later behaves as cold dark matter ($w=0$). This may slightly change the expansion rate of the Universe at early time and reduce the value of the sound horizon of baryon acoustic oscillations (standard ruler). As a result, in this model the value of the Hubble constant appears to be larger than…
