Retorica e discorso politico
2005

Analiza korespondencji Agnieszki Osieckiej i Jeremiego Przybory
2014
A discourse can be variously defined. It is also used by different areas of science. Discourse analysis allows to see not only what is directly given in the text, but also what has had an influence upon its creation. Therefore, the theory of discourse, where the main foundation is its three-dimensionality (cognitive dimension, expresive dimension and interactive dimension), discourse's subjects and context, can be used as a method of epistolography research. An analysis of Agnieszka Osiecka's and Jeremy Przybora's correspondence from the position of a discourse's investigator will allow to acknowledge any intertextual links as well as those that arise from the context or the interaction: th…

What can discourse psychology say about teachers' music talk and their teaching strategies?
2009
The teaching in music and culture schools is an activity that involves approximately one third of the children in Sweden, but there are only a few scientific studies conducted on the subject. The most of its participants will have music as a hobby in their future lives, but the vast majority of the students in higher music education once started their carriers in those schools. In this way music and culture schools can be seen as having a great impact on both cultural and musical activities in Sweden. This also points at the importance of knowledge concerning this institution, which this paper hopefully supplies for. The study has a social constructionist and post-structuralistic approach w…
Keep Calm in Heated Debates: How People Perceive Different Styles of Discourse in a Scientific Debate
2021
Scientific debates are, in an epistemological sense, argumentative approaches aimed at coming to the most appropriate conclusion. However, as these debates sometimes involve interpersonal rather than content-driven attacks (e.g., an argument between scientific experts might involve personal dislike), the following question arises: How do such communication behaviors affect people’s perception of the argument? In an empirical study, we presented prospective teachers (N = 222) with a newspaper article about two scientific experts controversially discussing the pros and cons of a fictional vocabulary training program. Using a 1 × 2 between-subject design, the article contained either a neutral…
Political Identities Constructed on a Social Network: The Labour Party on Facebook Boards
2019
This paper is concerned with how an (institutional) political identity is constructed on a Social Network (SN) wall, which represents the political identity of the party as designed in digital interactive contexts, and where political image constructions are eventually accepted or negotiated by the digital audience. Like other political parties, the Labour Party resorts to online platforms for official accounts and political message dissemination (Gerbaudo 2014; Boyd 2014) and constructs its (online) identity. Since interaction is seen (Baumann 2000; De Fina 2011) as the most important locus for the production of identities, this study looks at Facebook boards as interactional sites where t…
Tackling Online Disinformation. The Construction of 'Trustworthiness' and 'Best Practices' in the European Commission Discourse on COVID-19
2022
Over the last few decades, misleading healthcare information and deceptions with false claims, conspiracy theories (CTs) and consumer fraud have endangered public health on a global scale. More recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has been accompanied by a substantial flow of false information and unceasing attempts by conspirators to influence debates in the official discourses, breeding on the fertile ground of people’s most basic anxieties and the present-day social and economic uncertainty. This paper investigates the discourse of the European Commission on disinformation in order to achieve institutional legitimation through the linguistic and discursive construction of ‘trustworthiness’, ‘…
Teaching medical students online consultation: reframing the doctor-patient exchange
2017
After qualifying, doctors are expected to refine and develop professional knowledge and competences with a greater emphasis on the communication and consultation skills needed to create and maintain a good doctor-patient relationship. The ‘doctorability’, which is the act of legitimating the patient’s decision to seek medical care during the doctor-patient exchange, has been first studied by Heritage and Maynard (2006). However, the concept has been adapted to the new frames offered by the digital context and, as such, Stommel (2010) talks about the ‘forumability’, which refers to the users’ negotiations and legitimization within the group contributing to health fora. Using Digital Discours…
Typical and Individual Doctoral Processes and Lifecourses: The Types of Narratives of the Project Manager, the Survivor and the Seeker
2015
One task of the doctoral education is, globally as well as nationally, to produce and renew the highest expertise and knowledge in a high quality and efficient way. Even though in this global time the high-quality knowledge and skills are a competition factor which the success of the societies is expected to be able to lean on, also the doctoral students and their individual factors are significant. The accelerating global change is strongly reflected at the individual level: an attempt is made to respond to the changing expectations and to prepare individually and diversely. The individual doctoral students and the graduating doctors come from different everyday lives and contexts. The gra…
