Ankle-Brachial Index as a Predictor of Cardiovascular Risk in Atrial Fibrillation

2012

Objectives: Atrial Fibrillation (AF), the most frequent sustained arrhythmia, is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. The clinical course of AF is often complicated by cardiovascular and cerebrovascular adverse events that usually have a dual origin: cardio embolic and atherothrombotic. The aim of our study is to demonstrate the existence of a relationship between Systemic Atherosclerosis and AF. More specifically, we have analysed the prevalence of lower limb Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) in a population of fibrillating patients, and we have assessed whether the coexistence of AF and PAD might result in increased cardiovascular risks. Methods: The study has been conduc…

A paradigm shift: from disease to health orientation

2006

The history of science has been described as 'paradigm shifts' of sequential overthrow, each new paradigm replacing the previous one. A paradigm is an overarching view-point which guides the articulation of theories and other activities in a particular field. In the exploration of health, two different types of approach can be identified. The pathogenic view, which has dominated the orientation of medicine over the last hundred years, focuses on disease states and underlying factors that modify the chances of entering into one of those states. The competing salutogenic view appears to be undergoing a renaissance in the new strategies of public health and health promotion, and producing theo…

2019

Simoncini, Tommaso/0000-0002-2971-0079; Chung, Hsin-Fang/0000-0003-3261-5942; Mishra, Gita/0000-0001-9610-5904 WOS:000468709100014 PubMed ID: 31027683 Introduction: While the associations of genetic, reproductive and environmental factors with the timing of natural menopause have been extensively investigated, few epidemiological studies have specifically examined their association with premature (< 40 years) or early natural menopause (40-45 years). Aim: The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence on the predictors of premature and early natural menopause, as well as recommendations for the management of premature and early menopause and future research. Memory in Action – Performative Practices in a Dispute about the Past: Serbia and Croatia at the Turn of the 20th and 21st Century

2019

The article is an attempt to combine in one reflection the elements of two directions of critical thinking: discursive and performative. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption (derived from beliefs common in pre-performative times) that every space (including a city’s territory) can be treated as a text. This means that both static artifacts and activities in a given space communicate a certain message and can be seen as signs or symbols that refer to something outside of them. Our reflection focuses on practices in which the performative potential is fully revealed and which can be interpreted as a kind of rebellion against the present reality and official policies of memory.…

Engagement of readers/customers in the discourse of e-tourism promotional genres

2017

Metateoretyczne uwagi do koncepcji polityczności Chantal Mouffe w kontekście jej ideologicznych uwikłań

2017

The article contains the thesis that in political science theories a scientific, ideological and philosophical components are so fused that it is impossible to separate them completely. For this reason, the ideological content not only does not undermine the cognitive value of theoretical argument, but even contributes to it — if the relevant criteria are metI think, that the metatheoretical optics is the most appropriate approach to analyse these criteria. It allows not only to describe given theory, but also enables more problematic deconstruction of its conditions and cognitive status. In this article the analysis of this type is presented on the example of Chantal Mouffe’s agonistic co…

Linguistic landscapes of a minoritized regional majority: Language ideologies among Hungarians in South-West Slovakia

2016

[Introduction] This article is an investigation of the linguistic situation in South-West Slovakia and its interpretation by local inhabitants through the notion of linguistic landscape (LL hereafter), here understood broadly as texts displayed in visual space.1 This study has two broad aims. Firstly, the general distribution of the languages in the LL of two historically Hungarian villages is established. This distributional picture is compared to (inter)national and local conceptions about the visual use of different languages in South-West Slovakia. Secondly, using an ethnographic approach and making use of the data gathered during one month fieldwork, a set of individual signs and sign …

Parental Self-Efficacy and Intra- and Extra-Familial Relationships

2022

AbstractRelationships are at the heart of well-being. Parental self-efficacy emerges as a powerful construct for understanding parenting and parent–child relationships. However, person-centered approaches that allow identification of different family-specific configurations of mothers’ and fathers’ parental self-efficacy and potential within-family discrepancies remain scarce. Families are more than the sums of their parts, and holistic approaches are needed to deepen our understanding of potential family-level accumulation of relationship well-being and vulnerability. A latent profile analysis of 249 families of preadolescents identified four family profiles of parental self-efficacy: (1) …

Ethica cordis

2007

Discourse ethics is the best foundation for the civil ethics of a morally pluralist society, but only on condition that it does not remain m…

Motywacje do nauki języka ukraińskiego studentów filologii rosyjskiej Uniwersytetu Opolskiego

2010
