Integrating concepts and techniques from ethnomethodology and sociomaterialism, this article investigates the observable material processes involving human action and place‐based contexts of language use enabled by locative media. This chapter discusses the role and characteristics of oral discourse in scientific research, with “scientific” understood in a broad sense, covering any discipline of research. After introducing corpora of oral academic discourse, genre-specific characteristics of PhD defences, research group meetings, colloquia, and conference presentations are discussed from a discoursal point of view. In scientific research, oral discourse plays a fundamental role in the social construction of knowledge. Assessing violence in the family : social work, courts, and discourses

This article investigates social work, decision-making, and gendered violence in the family in Finland. Discourses on gendered violence in the family are compared in custody disputes, handled in district courts, and out-of-home placements, dealt with in administrative courts. Both data sets altogether include 237 cases. Proceedings in both courts share a legislative emphasis on the ‘child’s best interest’ principle, and both contexts also rely on documentation provided by social workers. The article focuses on digital discourses related to Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, the three biggest municipalities in Finland’s capital region. The data consist of texts from the discussion forum of Suomi24 that was analysed to find out how forum users produce socio-spatial distinctions by categorizing some groups as ‘others’ thus differentiating in-groups and out-groups. W artykule śledzę taktyki przywoływania (i unikania) wcześniejszych nazw współczesnego Wrocławia jako elementu tworzenia jego dziedzictwa kulturowego. Na przykładzie opracowań historycznych i wykorzystując metodę analizy dyskursu, pokazuję mechanizmy kreowania różnie akcentowanych przeszłości miasta. Opierając się na użyciu nazwy historycznej (na przykład Breslau) czy konsekwentnie tylko współczesnej (Wrocław), wskazuję, że za strategią wyboru nazwy stoją odmienne, ideologicznie uwarunkowane, narracje. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wątków pamięci społecznej, które z jednej strony opierają się na indywidualnym, potocznym doświadczeniu jednostki, z drugiej umieszczane są w społecznie wynegocjowanych ramach pamięci zbiorowej. Artykuł ten wpisuje się również w dyskusję nad miejscami pamięci i ich możliwą treścią - wykraczającą poza podtrzymujące pamięć zbiorową muzea, pomniki, upamiętniające tablice czy cmentarze - realizowaną w codziennym życiu jednostki. Przedmiotem analiz jest pamięć społeczna mieszkańców Wrocławia, ich konstrukcje światów społecznych opierające się na przestrzeni miasta obciążonej obcą kulturowo „pamięcią nieobecnych”.

W artykule przedstawiam treść i kontekst opowieści założycielskiej Wrocławia – powstałego po 1945 r. w jednym z największych i najbardziej zniszczonych miast przyłączonych do Polski po II wojnie światowej (polskie terytoria zachodnie i północne). Analizowany materiał empiryczny składa się z osobistych dokumentów – wypowiedzi mieszkańców Wrocławia spisanych i zgłoszonych na konkurs „Czym jest dla ciebie miasto Wrocław” w 1966 roku. Najważniejszym elementem tej opowieści o powstaniu miasta jest postać pioniera, którego wizerunek ukształtował się jak mityczny bohater. Cechy pionierów (takie jak odwaga, bezkompromisowa miłość do miasta i otwartość na innych) stały się ważną narracją współtworzą…
