Designing for Student-Centered Hybrid Learning Environments: A Framework for Programming Languages Course Design

Hybrid learning environments are a means of delivering instructional content in that online educational materials and opportunities for interaction were combined with traditional classroom methods. Hybrid learning environments give students the opportunity to work in an environment enriched with digital learning tools, and to support student-based learning approach. Student-based learning approach promotes engagement to make students active learners via various ways such as interactivity, feedback, etc. Researchers identified feedback as an activity for promoting effective online learning and more so creating the environment for teacher-student teaching and learning interaction. Migrant Images and Imageries in Contemporary Italian Cinema”,
2019
This article aims to outline the three main threads that have marked Italian cinema in the adoption, comparison and modelling of migratory images and imageries, namely: a formed and forming gaze that transforms the multitude of life forms on the move into a horde of indistinct bodies; a humanitarian moral and a look that risk placing the diasporic subjects in an irredeemable position of subalternity and the construction and valorisation of migrant identities. Through these three threads, it is possible to reconstruct the visual history of migratory phenomena – both outwards to the Americas and inwards from North Africa –and highlight two opposing outcomes: on the one hand, the strategies of…
Our paper aims at reflecting up…
2013
Our paper aims at reflecting upon the mediation role that linguistics could play concerning the relationship between language policies and concrete speakers’ discourse practices. The paper is divided into two parts. The first one focuses on the concept of «identity» within Linguistics throughout 20th century. The second part deals with some possible models which may be employed in order to represent the construction of speakers’ identity as it may be observed within the interviews of the Linguistic Atlas of Sicily (ALS).
Conditional connection explored: the case of Sicilian cusà
2022
Abstract Stemming from a wh-question, the Sicilian marker cusà (cu sa ‘who knows’) expresses several epistemic meanings, which can also reach the realm of conditionality. The paper explores the discourse profile of cusà as it emerges from the analysis of diachronic data (from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries) and present-day informal Sicilian, namely spoken Sicilian and present-day informal Sicilian as written by speakers on the web. These data suggest a possible path of development leading from the wh-question to new functions. We propose that the origin of this development can be explained in the light of the strategy of the “impossible question”, while the diverse functions of cus…
2019
The present work moves from a wider project on Italian as L2 competence of a group of foreign unaccompanied minors (MSNA) included in the literacy courses of the Scuola di Lingua Italiana per Stranieri dell’Università di Palermo (ItaStra). The article focuses on the analysis of a narrative speech corpus from native/non native face to face conversations. The narratives involve in particular the experience of migration. In this perspective, a special attention will be paid on the interaction turns, the discourse and pragmatic competence, and the use of linguistic constructions typical of story-telling (the use of conjunctions, verb tense conjugation and adverbs).
2019
In this paper I discuss the current state of the so called populist political discourse in Italy. In particular my purpose is to shed light on some features of this kind of discourse in order to show the relation between language and policy in the discourse of populism. In this perspective I will follow the eight key points that, according to Diamanti & Lazar (2018), identify the actual populist movements, in order to verify if – and, in that case, which – linguistic traits characterize their discourse. The analysis will be focused on the semantic and argumentative aspects of the discourse of some of the most important political actors in contemporary Italy.
2016
In this paper I discuss some features of Italian political discourse after the ending of the so called ‘berlusconismo’ (that is, the specific communicative style of Silvio Berlusconi, the leader of Italian right wing for almost two decades). In particular, I display the figure of Matteo Renzi, the current Italian Prime Minister and Secretary of PD, the most important Italian political party. In my work, I try to pinpoint the peculiarity of Renzi’s discourse strategies. In this vein, I suggest to use the notion of ‘disphasic discourse’, in order to underline the strong decrease of styles, genres and textual types variability characterizing his ways of communicating. I focus the attention on …
