Fluorometric determination of chemically available lysine: adaptation, validation and application to different milk products.

A spectrophotometric method based on the reaction between available lysine and ortho-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) was adapted and validated for fluorometric determination of the chemically available lysine contents in milk matrices (UHT and conventional in-bottle sterilized cow milk, milk-based infant formulas and infant formula ingredients). The values of the analytical parameters show its usefulness as a routine method (linearity, r = 0.9992; detection limit, 0.0066 mg/mL assay; accuracy, 99-108%; precision, intra-day 2.1-5.9% and inter-day 3.5 10.2%). The aim of this work was to evaluate, in the different production seasons of the year, the physico-chemical quality of an artisanal cheese traditionally obtained from autochthonous grazing cows, with particular reference to fatty acids (FA) of nutritional interest that play an important role in the risk or prevention of some human pathologies. For this purpose, cheeses were sampled in 11 farms, repeating the samplings in 3 different periods of the year (summer, autumn–winter, and spring) when the productive conditions of the pastures varied. Biomethane production from maize and liquid cow manure – Effect of share of maize, post-methanation potential and digestate characteristics

Abstract This study investigates the co-digestion of liquid cow manure and maize with different share of maize in continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTRs). The objective was to determine the methane yield of reactor and the post-methanation potential of the digestate from different reactor trials. The highest specific methane yield (259 Nl CH 4 /kg volatile solids (VSs)) was obtained when the share of maize in the feedstock was 40% (VS) and the second highest specific methane yield was when the proportion of maize was 60% (VS) (234 Nl CH 4 /kg VS). This paper concerns lecturers in English at two Polish universities between the wars: the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius and the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. The former employed four teachers of English, while the latter was represented by three. It may be safely assumed that all strived to make English accessible to their fellow countrymen; hence, they contributed in diff erent ways to the EFL market through their didactic endeavours. Their activity was not confi ned to teaching practices, however, as they had very diff erent career paths. Since little is known of them, this paper off ers a closer look at their biographies and embellishes them with archival materials.

Anafilaksja oznacza zagrażającą życiu, uogólnioną reakcję nadwrażliwości mogącą mieć charakter alergiczny lub niealergiczny. Zespół Kounisa to ostry zespół wieńcowy spowodowany reakcją alergiczną. Wśród czynników etiologicznych wyzwalających reakcję alergiczną wymienia się pokarmy, czynniki środowiskowe, leki, radiologiczne środki kontrastowe oraz niektóre stany chorobowe. Zespół Kounisa jest stosunkowo rzadko rozpoznawaną przyczyną zawału serca, co najprawdopodobniej wynika z jego niedorozpoznawalności. Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the involvement of apoptotic factors, cytokeratins and metalloproteinase- 9 in the histogenesis of both Epithelialized Gingival Lesions (EGL) and Periapical Lesions (PAL). 55 consecutive patients, 30 with PAL and 25 with EGL, were selected for the study after clinical and radiological examinations. The PAL patients had severe periapical lesions and tooth decay with exposure of the pulp chamber. All PAL and EGL biopsies were surgically extracted, fixed in 10% buffered formalin, and processed for routine light microscopy.
