The recourse to trade credit by Italian firms during the crisis

rade credit, for many firms, is an essential tool for financing growth. Trade credit indicates a practise to buy goods or services on account without making immediate cash payment. Although trade credit is an important source of funds for small businesses, little has been known about the reasons business customers use it. Economists have linked the use of trade credit to transaction and financing motive. The use of trade credit because credit from other sources, particularly from financial institutions, is limited during recession periods represents a reasonable motive. In order to verify if Italian firms faced to credit restrictions by recurring more intensively to trade credit, we examine…

Capitale territoriale, crisi e politiche di intervento

2019

Learning from Failures: a Chance to Overcome the Crisis. E-Government Adoption in the Municipality of Palermo, Italy.

2013

Due to its effect on regional and national competitiveness the issue of e- Government has become particularly relevant in the light of an ongoing financial crisis. Mostly because e-Government has a great potential in reducing the cost of regulatory compliance for government customers, in improving efficiency and tax administration and in avoiding frauds and errors. However, it must not be considered as a simple set of tools for technological innovation but rather a phenomenon that requires redesigning the entire institutional governance model and the roles of the main actors involved. This paper presents part of the PhD thesis project of the author on the implementation and adoption of e-Go…

La crisi dei migranti nel Mediterraneo Centrale: le operazioni Search and Rescue non sono un fattore di attrazione

2021

We present a synthesis of some results of our research on the migrant crisis along the Central Mediterranean Route. In the uncertain North-African geopolitical scenario, characterized by Libya’s instability, our results show that, contrary to common beliefs, the search and rescue operations (SARs) at sea are not a pull factor and do not contribute to increase the probability of dying at sea: SARs save the lives of migrants. The migrant flow originates from the structural conditions of the sending countries and is facilitated by the criminal networks, whose activity needs to be contrasted.

L’evoluzione dell’attività bancaria tra innovazioni istituzionali, regolamentari e di mercato: alcune riflessioni e spunti di ricerca

2018

This paper aims to examine the evolution of the bank business models in Italy, with reference to some crucial institutional, economic, and regulatory aspects. A proper and well-functioning banking system is an essential condition to ensure a stable and efficient financial system, and a well-functioning real economy. The Italian banking system is affected by a deep reconfiguration of business models as a consequence of financial, market, technological, and institutional innovations that are posing some critical questions to the traditional role and functions of a bank in a globalized and interconnected economic system.
