Intubationsbedingungen nach Rocuronium und Succinylcholin
1996
OBJECTIVE Rocuronium is a new non-depolarising steroidal muscle relaxant with a short onset time. The present study was undertaken to compare intubating conditions as well as onset and clinical duration of a single dose of 0.6 mg/kg (2 x ED95) with a single dose of 1 mg/kg suxamethonium (3 x ED95). METHODS After obtaining informed consent and approval of the Ethics Committee, 40 adult patients (ASA I-III) participated in this study. After premedication with oxazepam, anaesthesia was induced with fentanyl and propofol and maintained with propofol, N2O and supplements of fentanyl as needed. Muscular relaxation was assessed by EMG recording of adductor pollicis muscle after supramaximal single…
Two memorial congresses in tribute of Omar Prakash, MD, PhD
1994
Both memorial congresses presented the large field of computing and technology in anaesthesia and intensive care. Many of the contributors were personal friends of Omar and the spirit of Dr. Omar Prakash was present during these congresses. Quite certainly, he would have enjoyed both of the two occasions. They proved that the idea Dr. Omar Prakash first sparked in early eighties, of international meetings for scientists to come to meet friends and interchange ideas, is going strong. In fact, people spontaneously reached agreement that this tradition of Memorial congresses should be continued in the future. Whenever such a congress is to be arranged, you will see it being announced in this v…

Hipertensión endocraneal asociada a la sedación con sevoflurano mediante el dispositivo AnaConDa®en un paciente con traumatismo craneoencefálico seve…
2013
Sedation in neurocritical patients remains a challenge as there is no drug that meets all the requirements. Since the appearance of the AnaConDa® device, and according to the latest recommendations, sevoflurane has become an alternative for patients with brain injury. The use of AnaConDa® produces an increase in the anatomical dead space that leads to a decrease in alveolar ventilation. If the decrease in the alveolar ventilation is not offset by an increase in minute volume, there will be an increase in PaCO2. We report the case of a patient with severe traumatic brain injury who suffered an increase in intracranial pressure as a result of increased PaCO2 after starting sedation with the A…
Natriuretic peptide system: physiology and clinical utility
2004
This review discusses the physiology of natriuretic peptides as a group and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) in more detail. It will also highlight implications for the use of the natriuretic peptides in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease. The heart secretes two major natriuretic peptides: atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), which is synthesized in the atrial myocardium, and BNP, which is synthesized in the ventricular myocardium. Both ANP and BNP are released in response to atrial and ventricular stretch, respectively, and will cause balanced vasodilation, natriuresis, and inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis. …
Wache Videolaryngoskopie
2016
Introduction Awake video laryngoscopy is a novel option in airway management that is drawing more and more attention as an alternative to awake endoscopic guided intubation.Main issues: Intubation under preserved spontaneous breathing is the safest method to secure the expected difficult airway. In direct comparisons to awake flexible endoscopic intubation, awake video laryngoscopy achieves satisfactory intubation times and a high acceptance of patients and anesthesiologists. Specific cases, in particular very limited mouth opening or sub-glottic masses, require awake flexible endoscopic intubation. Sufficient topical anesthesia and a sophisticated sedation protocol are prerequisites for su…
