Structural characterization of 2,2-di-n-butyl-4-methyl-1,3,2-dioxastannolane isolated from supercritical CO2 conditions

2009

The title compound has been isolated as single crystals from the synthesis of propylene carbonate from racemic 1,2-propanediol and carbon dioxide using n-Bu2SnO as a catalyst precursor. The X-ray crystallographic structure analysis revealed the self-assembly of di-n-butyltin(IV) 1,2-propanediolate units, linked together through long-distance Sn-O interactions leading to a one-dimensional polymeric architecture organized in a syndiotactic arrangement. The coordination geometry around the tin atoms can be described as an unusual faced-capped trigonal bipyramidal environment.

Recent progress in understanding physical and chemical properties of African and Asian mineral dust

2011

International audience; This paper presents a review of recently acquired knowledge on the physico-chemical properties of mineral dust from Africa and Asia based on data presented and discussed during the Third International Dust Workshop, held in Leipzig (Germany) in September 2008. Various regional field experiments have been conducted in the last few years, mostly close to source regions or after short-range transport. Although significant progress has been made in characterising the regional variability of dust properties close to source regions, in particular the mineralogy of iron and the description of particle shape and mixing state, difficulties remain in estimating the range of va…

Emerging opportunities for the effective valorization of wastes and by-products generated during olive oil production process: Non-conventional metho…

2015

Abstract Background A large amount of wastes and by-products are generated during olive oil production process. Traditionally, these products have been considered as a problem. However, they constitute a great source of high-added value compounds, which have the potential to be used as food additives and/or nutraceuticals. Therefore, valorization of wastes and by-products from food industry kills two birds with one stone and addresses both the use of waste and by-products and societal health, thus greatly contributing for a sustainable food chain from an environmental and economical point of view. Scope and approach In the present review, current and new insights in the recovery of high-add…

Teaching and learning about interculturality in communication and management

2022

This chapter is based on the author's experience of designing, setting up and running a 2-year English-taught MA programme in intercultural management for international students at the University of Burgundy, France. The programme seeks to train the next generation of intercultural specialists, with a critical, interpretivist and non-essentialising view of the way that individuals use cultures and identities to communicate in organisational settings. Going beyond traditional national-level or competence-based approaches to intercultural management, it promotes theoretical and practice-based understanding of the communication processes at work within organisations, joint ventures or internat…

Approche critique : quelle appropriation par les SIC ?

2017

Sprung up from the confluence and the interaction between different disciplines, information and communication sciences have been enriched by international critical thoughts from which they borrowed a large number of concepts. However, the genesis and the critical function of theses paradigms are not always examined. By exploring the appropriation processes of the most important critical schools of thought within the discipline, the author contributes to enliven a space for discussion about the adoption of a critical perspective in communication studies. Social critique; Critical perspective on communication; History of information and communication sciences; Critical Theory; Cultural studi…

Raport o stanie dyskursu krytycznoliterackiego w Polsce

2017

The article is an attempt to describe the condition of the discourse of literary criticism as practiced in Poland. The author investigates the process of gradual impoverishment and despecification of the language of literary criticism, which reveals itself via diverse socio-literary phenomena, such as the demand for shortenings and evaluative character of literary criticism, the places where literary criticism appears, the disappearance of the quality of the dialogue, and the way literary criticism functions in the Polish contemporary publishing market. A separate part of these considerations is devoted to the overview of the critics’ approaches to the condition of the discourse of literary…

The Concept of Culture in Media Studies: A Critical Review of Academic Literature

2014

This study examines the way culture has been researched in media studies and suggests how critical intercultural communication could contribute to the field. A literature review was conducted and articles (N=114) published in peer-reviewed journals between 2003 and 2013 were collected. Results show that studies dealing with media and culture do not systematically define the concept of culture. Findings also indicate that culture is oftentimes taken for granted instead of being problematized and addressed as a source of struggle. Advantages of using a critical intercultural communication framework to examine culture are discussed.

The development of a multiliteracy-based approach in language learning: engaging students in aesthetic reading

2018

2023

The aim of this work is to contribute to the Italian debate, firstly through a reconstruction of the main assumptions of Critical Social Work (CSW) whose analyses provide social workers with a critical awareness and reflexivity without which it would not be possible to link their professional practice and the daily challenges that LGBTQAI+ people face with the systemic and structural aspects of disadvantage and oppression that characterise contemporary societies. In this sense, CSW - applied to the fields of sexual orientations, gender identities and non-normative sexualities - is configured as an overall practice that invests the identities of social workers and users and their symbolic an…
