Interactions with conspecifics influence the behavioral repertoire of an organism, as they apply to foraging techniques, song acquisition, habitat selection, and mate choice. Few workers have studied the role of social interactions in molding defense responses, especially the defense of the nest. We tested the effect of social interaction on nest defense of the reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus), one of the main hosts of the brood-parasitic common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) in Europe. Influence of Galvanic Microcells on Growth of Pathogenic Bacteria and Candida Yeast

The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of electrodes on growth of pathogenic bacteria and Candida albicans yeast. In the study, following references bacteria strains were used: Staphylococcus aureus ATTC 6538; Enterococcus faecalis ATTC 29212 (V); Enterococcus hirae ATTC 105441 (VI) and yeast strain Candida albicans ATTC 10231 (C40). Microelectrodes were prepared by ALCOR Center. Estimation of the biocidal effect of electrodes was carried out by medium poisoning method. The assessment of adhesion to the surface was performed by a modified Hawser’s method. Presence of adhesion was assessed by SEM analysis. Pathologic, ultrastructural and radiologic studies are described on 3 infants with the rhizomelic form of chondrodysplasia punctata. Radiologic criteria in the young infant include radiolucent coronal clefts dividing all or most of the thoracic and lumbar vertebral bodies, short humeri with flared metaphyses and punctate calcifications commonly present adjacent to the ossified ischial and pubic bones and less commonly in other locations. To meet the ever-growing traffic demand and address the cell capacity shortage problem, associating end users to various tiers of cells in a multitier cellular network appears to be a promising approach. In this paper, we consider a nonuniform heterogeneous cellular network (NuHCN) and propose a cell association scheme that selectively mutes certain small-cell base stations (BSs) and covers end users by cell range extension (via cell biasing) for achieving load balancing.
