A Method for Measurements of the Total 2H(γ,π−)PP Cross Sections at Threshold

1979

In recent years measurements of the total cross section for the reactions 2H(γ,π+ nn) and 2H(γ,π0)2H close to the production threshold were performed1. For the 2H(γ,π−)pp reaction data of similar good quality doesn’t exist. In this paper a method is prescribed and the feasibility for the reaction 2H(γ,π−)pp is demonstrated. Figure 1 shows the principle: The photon beam hits a liquid or high pressured gas target of 2H. π− are created on the deuteron and stopped in the same target cell. The major part of the tt are captured π− are captured by deuterons via the reaction 2H(π−,n)n. The energy is shared equally by the two neutrons (En= 68.2 MeV). One of these monochromatic neutrons is detected b…

What can be learnt about nuclear polarization from a consistency analysis ofe ? cross sections and muonic X-rays for208Pb and the isotone pair209Bi/2…

1977

A joint analysis of recent electron scattering cross sections and muonic atom X-ray energies is performed for208Pb and the isotone pair209Bi/208Pb. From the compatibility of the experimental data one can learn about the nuclear polarisation correction. However, we find this information not to be as accurate as other authors claimed when we take into consideration the ambiguities in the treatment of the corrections of the higher levels.

E0 suppression in pion photoproduction on 13C

1990

Abstract Recently measured anomalously low cross sections for 13 C(γ, π − ) 13 N at low energy and θ π lab = 90° 0761 have been analyzed in a DWIA calculation. It has been found that the EO contribution alone is able to explain the data, so that the M1 cross section is expected to vanish. Using constraints from recent magnetic electron scattering, an explanation is possible by assuming a significantly lower reduced density matrix element for spin-flip isovector transitions with angular momentum L = 2 than predicted by Cohen and Kurath.

Cross section systematics for the lightest Bi and Po nuclei produced in complete fusion reactions with heavy ions

2005

The production of the very neutron-deficient nuclides $^{184\ensuremath{-}192}\mathrm{Bi}$ and $^{186\ensuremath{-}192}\mathrm{Po}$ in the vicinity of the neutron midshell at N = 104 has been studied by using heavy-ion-induced complete fusion reactions in a series of experiments at the velocity filter SHIP. Search for long-lived superheavy elements in the reaction of136Xe with238U

1978

A search with radiochemical methods for long-lived superheavy elements in 238U targets bombarded with intense beams of136Xe ions produced negative results. A formation cross section of ≤1×10−35 cm2 is deduced at 95% confidence level for nuclides with half-lives between 1 and 200 d.

Isosinglet-neutral heavy-lepton production in Z-decays and neutrino mass

1990

Abstract The possible existence of NHLs is often related to neutrino mass. As a result their production cross section may be correspondingly constrained by observational limits on neutrino masses. We analyze the discovery potential of isosinglet NHLs within various models taking also into account cosmological limits on relic neutrino abundances.

Systematic measurements of proton- and alpha-capture cross sections relevant to the modelling of the p process

2005

Several in-beam cross section measurements of proton- as well as α -capture reactions in the Se-Sb region have been carried out to obtain global input parameters for Hauser-Feshbach (HF) calculations. In total, 20 (p, γ ) and 7 ( α , γ ) reactions were measured. We compare some of these results with Hauser-Feshbach calculations using various optical model potentials and nuclear level densities.

Measurement of the e+e- → ZZ production cross section at centre-of-mass energies of 183 and 189 GeV

1999

The ee -> ZZ cross section at sqrt(s)=182.7 and 188.6 GeV has been measured using the ALEPH detector. The analysis covers all of the visible ZZ final states and yields cross section measurements of sigma_ZZ(182.7 GeV) = 0.11 +- (0.16,0.11) (stat.) +- 0.04 (syst.) pb and sigma_ZZ(188.6 GeV) = 0.67 +- 0.13 (stat.) +- 0.04 (syst.) pb consistent with the Standard Model expectations.
