Measurement of direct photon pair production cross sections in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV
2010
We present a measurement of direct photon pair production cross sections using 4.2 fb(-1) of data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider. We measure single differential cross sections as a function of the diphoton mass, the transverse momentum of the diphoton system, the azimuthal angle between the photons, and the polar scattering angle of the photons. In addition, we measure double differential cross sections considering the last three kinematic variables in three diphoton mass bins. The results are compared with different perturbative QCD predictions and event generators. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
BaBar Results on Hadronic Cross Sections with Initial State Radiation
2008
In this paper we present recent results of the BaBar experiment at the B-factory PEP-II in the field of hadronic cross section measurements. At PEP-II, which is designed for a fixed center-of-mass energy around the ϒ(4S) resonance, the hadronic cross section is measured using events with Initial State Radiation (ISR), which allows the cover the entire energy range below 4 GeV in one single experiments. Results for exclusive finals states with 3, 4 and 5 hadrons, as well as measurements of hyperon form factors are shown.
Strange hadronic physics in electroproduction experiments at the Mainz Microtron
2012
Abstract Present and future research into the electroproduction of strangeness plays an important role at Mainz Microtron MAMI. With the Kaos spectrometer for kaon detection operated in the multi-spectrometer facility first cross section measurements of the exclusive p ( e , e ′ K + ) Λ , Σ 0 reactions at low-momentum transfers have been performed. These measurements have clearly discriminated between effective Lagrangian models for photo- and electroproduction of strangeness. Recently, the Kaos spectrometer was upgraded to a double-arm spectrometer for the measurement of elementary cross sections at very forward scattering angles and for the missing mass spectroscopy of hypernuclear states…
Calculation of the two-loop heavy-flavor contribution to Bhabha scattering
2008
We describe in detail the calculation of the two-loop corrections to the QED Bhabha scattering cross section due to the vacuum polarization by heavy fermions. Our approach eliminates one mass scale from the most challenging part of the calculation and allows us to obtain the corrections in a closed analytical form. The result is valid for arbitrary values of the heavy fermion mass and the Mandelstam invariants, as long as s,t,u >> m_e^2.
High $p_{T}$ Leptons and W Production at HERA
1999
Details are given of the observation by H1 of events containing high P_T leptons in addition to large missing P_T. A closely related ZEUS analysis, including a preliminary measurement of the W production cross section, is discussed and the two experiments are compared. Some possible non-Standard Model sources for the events are considered.
Pion vs. photon absorption on the deuteron
1995
Abstract Using an NN → ΔN transition potential fixed by the reaction pp ↔ dπ+ a good agreement can be obtained also for the reaction γd → pn in the Δ region. Further it is seen that the πNΔ and ϱNΔ parameters of the widely used Bonn potential, fitting the NN sector, yield a transition potential too weak to reproduce the pion production or absorption cross section.
Threshold π0 photoproduction on transverse polarised protons at MAMI
2015
Abstract Polarisation-dependent differential cross sections σ T associated with the target asymmetry T have been measured for the reaction γ p → → p π 0 with transverse target polarisation from π 0 threshold to photon energies of 190 MeV. The data were obtained using a frozen-spin butanol target with the Crystal Ball / TAPS detector set-up and the Glasgow photon tagging system at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. Results for σ T have been used in combination with our previous measurements of the unpolarised cross section σ 0 and the beam asymmetry Σ for a model-independent determination of S- and P-wave multipoles in the π 0 threshold region, which includes for the first time a direct determination…
The isospin structure of photoproduction of πη pairs from the nucleon in the threshold region
2015
Abstract Photoproduction of πη-pairs from nucleons has been investigated from threshold up to incident photon energies of ≈ 1.4 GeV. The quasi-free reactions γ p → p π 0 η , γ n → n π 0 η , γ p → n π + η , and γ n → p π − η were for the first time measured from nucleons bound in the deuteron. The corresponding reactions from a free-proton target were also studied to investigate final-state interaction effects (for neutral pions the free-proton results could be compared to previous measurements; the γ p → n π + η reaction was measured for the first time). For the π 0 η final state coherent production via the γ d → d π 0 η reaction was also investigated. The experiments were performed at the …
Helicity dependence of the γ→p→→nπ+π0 reaction in the second resonance region
2003
The helicity dependence of the total cross section for the (γ) over right arrow(p) over right arrownpi(+) pi(0) reaction has been measured for the first time at incident photon energies from 400 to 800 MeV The measurement was performed with the large acceptance detector DAPHNE at the tagged photon beam facility of the MAMI accelerator in Mainz. This channel is found to be excited predominantly when the photon and proton have a parallel spin orientation, due to the intermediate production of the D-13 resonance. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Intermediate resonance excitation in the γp→pπ0π0 reaction
2005
The helicity dependence of the total cross section for the (gamma) over right arrow(p) over right arrow -> p pi(0)pi(0) reaction has been measured for the first time at incident photon energies from 400 to 800 MeV. The measurement, performed at the tagged photon beam facility of the MAMI accelerator in Mainz, used the large acceptance detector DAPHNE and a longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target. This channel is found to be excited predominantly when the photon and proton have a parallel spin orientation, most likely due to the intermediate production of the D-13(1520) resonance. However, the contribution of the antiparallel spin configuration, arising from other reaction mechanisms, is…
