Volumetric variation of peri-implant soft tissues in convergent collar implants and crowns using the biologically oriented preparation technique (BOP…
2018
Background To evaluate the changes in the peri-implant soft tissues of convergent collar implants with biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) crowns, 10 months after loading. Material and Methods A pilot study was carried out from January 2016 to October 2017 involving 14 patients with one or two implants in the posterior mandibular sector. A total of 32 convergent collar implants were placed using a non-submerged protocol. Three months later the provisional cemented crowns were fitted using the BOPT approach with the finish line 1-1.5 mm below the gingival margin, simulating coronal emergence of a natural tooth. The soft tissue changes were measured with an intraoral scanner at…
Comparative Analysis of Peri-Implant Bone Loss in Extra-Short, Short, and Conventional Implants. A 3-Year Retrospective Study
2020
Objective: To evaluate the influence of implant length on marginal bone loss, comparing implants of 4 mm, 6 mm, and >
Platform switch versus platform match in the posterior mandible – 1-year results of a multicentre randomized clinical trial.
2014
Objective The purpose of this ongoing randomized study was to assess differences in bone level changes and success rates using implants supporting single crowns in the posterior mandible either with platform matched or platform switched abutments. Material and Methods Patients aged 18 and above, missing at least two teeth in the posterior mandible and with a natural tooth mesial to the most proximal implant site were enrolled. Randomization followed implant placement. Definitive restorations were placed after a minimum transgingival healing period of 8 weeks. Changes in crestal bone level from surgery and loading (baseline) to 12-month post-loading were radiographically measured. Implant su…
Effect of platform switching on crestal bone levels around implants in the posterior mandible: 3 years results from a multicentre randomized clinical…
2016
Objective Evaluation of differences in the clinical performance and crestal bone levels between implants restored with single crowns with platform-matched or platform-switched abutments after 3 years. Material and Methods The study enrolled adult patients missing two or more adjacent teeth in the posterior mandible with natural teeth mesial to the implant site. Randomization followed open-flap implant insertion and the corresponding matching or switching healing abutments placed at surgery. Conventional loading was made with cemented crowns. Clinical follow-up took place annually after loading up to 3 years. Bone level changes were measured in standardized radiographs as the variation in cr…
Zirconia Removable Telescopic Dentures Retained on Teeth or Implants for Maxilla Rehabilitation. Three-Year Observation of Three Cases
2010
Abstract This report addresses maxillary restoration with removable telescopic crown-retained palatal free dentures. One patient with 7 natural teeth (PERIO), a second patient with 6 dental implants (IMPL), and a third patient with 2 natural teeth and 4 dental implants (IMPL-PERIO) were treated. Zirconia copings for natural teeth and individual zirconia implant abutments were fabricated in CAD/CAM and used as primary crowns. Electroformed gold copings were used as secondary telescopes. All maxilla supraconstructions were fabricated with zirconia and CAD/CAM. Patients were monitored during a 3-year period; all teeth and implants survived, and no biological or mechanical complications occurre…
Vertical misfit of laser-sintered and vacuum-cast implant-supported crown copings luted with definitive and temporary luting agents
2012
Objectives. This study aimed to evaluate the vertical discrepancy of implant-supported crown structures constructed with vacuum-casting and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technologies, and luted with different cement types. Study Design. Crown copings were fabricated using: (1) direct metal laser sintered Co-Cr (LS); (2) vacuum-cast Co-Cr (CC); and (3) vacuum-cast Ti (CT). Frameworks were luted onto machined implant abutments under constant seating pressure. Each alloy group was randomly divided into 5 subgroups (n = 10 each) according to the cement system utilized: Subgroup 1 (KC) used resin-modified glass-ionomer Ketac Cem Plus; Subgroup 2 (PF) used Panavia F 2.0 dual-cure resin ceme…
Decreased dentin tubules density and reduced thickness of peritubular dentin in hyperbilirubinemia-related green teeth.
2016
BACKGROUND It is stated anecdotally that patients with liver diseases in childhood who develop green teeth have increased risk for rampant caries, which may be secondary to changes in dental structure. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that hyperbilirubinemia affects the dentin morphology of green teeth. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixteen primary teeth were prepared and divided into two groups (green teeth, n = 8 and control, n = 8), which were transversely fractured across the cervical third of the dental crowns; dentin was prepared and sputter-coated with gold, and examined under a scanning electron microscope. The mean density and mean diameter of dentin tubules, as well as the …
Tilted implants for the restoration of posterior mandibles with horizontal atrophy: An alternative treatment
2013
Purpose Horizontal atrophy in the posterior mandible presents serious limitations on conventional implant placement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of tilted implants angled in a buccolingual direction for restoring atrophic posterior mandibular sectors. Materials and Methods A cohort study was performed of 25 patients who had partial prostheses supported by more than 1 implant (≥1 tilted and 1 axial implant) to restore molar areas in the mandible. When the bone thickness was at least 5 mm, axial implants were placed; when the alveolar ridge was narrower, the implant was placed with tilted angulation. The beds for these tilted implants were prepared using a lingual approa…
Prospective study of monolithic zirconia crowns: clinical behavior and survival rate at a 5-year follow-up
2020
Purpose To evaluate the clinical behavior and survival of full coverage monolithic zirconia crowns on posterior teeth over a 5-year follow-up. Methods Fifty patients were recruited and underwent restoration with a Lava Plus monolithic zirconia crown (Lava™ Frame Zirconia, 3M Espe, Germany) on premolars or molars. Patients were monitored over a 5-year follow-up (2014-19), recording any biological and/or mechanical complications; these data were used to estimate the crowns' success rate. Periodontal clinical parameters were recorded (pocket probing depth (PPD), plaque index (PLI), bleeding on probing (BOP), and gingival recession (GR)). Wear to the zirconia crowns and antagonist teeth were al…
A Novel Technique Using Polytetrafluoroethylene Tape to Solve Screw Loosening Complication in Implant-Supported Single Crowns
2020
This study aimed to analyze a novel technique to make screws with greater untightening resistance and to solve screw loosening in implant-supported single crowns. Thirty grade IV titanium straight abutments were screwed onto 30 external hex implants using grade IV titanium screws (30 Ncm). They were exposed to cyclic loading (300,000 cycles, 200 N). Samples were divided into 4 groups (15 samples per group): new screws (SCREW group) (control), reused screws (rSCREW group), new screws wrapped with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape (PTFE group), and reused screws wrapped with PTFE tape (rPTFE group). Reverse torque values (RTVs) were recorded with a digitally calibrated implant motor. Mean R…
