Risk factors for anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in unresponsive and responsive patients in a major focus, southeast of Iran

2018

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a serious health challenge at the global level due to Leishmania tropica. This study was conducted to evaluate the risk factors associated with anthroponotic CL (ACL) in unresponsive (patient who does not heal and remains with an active lesion, despite receiving two courses of intra-lesional Glucantime along with cryotherapy and one cycle of systemic Glucantime) and responsive patients in a major focus in southeastern Iran. A case-control study was conducted from April 2015 to October 2016 in the southeast of Iran. Patients were recruited in a major ACL focus from unresponsive and responsive cases. These patients were compared for environmental, clinical, and…

Effect of Whole-Body Cryotherapy on Morphological, Rheological and Biochemical Indices of Blood in People with Multiple Sclerosis

2021

The aim of this study was to examine and assess the impact of a series of 20 whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) treatments on the biochemical and rheological indices of blood in people with multiple sclerosis. In this prospective controlled study, the experimental group consisted of 15 women aged 34–55 (mean age, 41.53 ± 6.98 years) with diagnosed multiple sclerosis who underwent a series of whole-body cryotherapy treatments. The first control group consisted of 20 women with diagnosed multiple sclerosis. This group had no intervention in the form of whole-body cryotherapy. The second control group consisted of 15 women aged 30–49 years (mean age, 38.47 ± 6.0 years) without neurological diseases …

Acute effects of cold pack on mechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in healthy subjects.

2012

Purpose: To examine the effects of local cooling on mechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in healthy subjects. Subjects: Thirty-nine healthy subjects (27 women, 12 men, mean age 39, range 20e62) volunteered. Methods: A cold gel pack was applied to the quadriceps muscle for 20 min. Properties were quantified by analyzing the frequency (tension), decrement (elasticity) and stiffness of damped oscillations and the compliance of the muscle before, immediately after and after 15-min after cooling. Results: The largest responses immediately after cooling were seen in the oscillation decrement parameter, 7.9 (3.7e12.1) %, and in the compliance parameter, 7.5 ( 9.8 to 5.3) %. Response…

Effect of fatigue strength exercise on anterior thigh skin temperature rewarming after cold stress test.

2021

Although dynamic thermography skin temperature assessment has been used in medical field, scientific evidence in sports is scarce. The aim of the study was to assess changes in anterior thigh skin temperature in response to a cold stress test after a strength exercise fatiguing protocol. Ten physically active adults performed a familiarization session and two strength exercise sessions, one with dominant and the other with non-dominant lower limb. Participants performed bouts of 10 concentric and eccentric contractions of leg extensions in an isokinetic device until reaching around 30% of force loss. Infrared thermographic images were taken at baseline conditions and after the fatigue level…

Resection with cryotherapy of colorectal hepatic metastases has the same survival as hepatic resection alone.

2001

Abstract Background Hepatic resection is well established as a potentially curative treatment for hepatic colorectal cancer metastases. However, only a small proportion of patients with liver metastases are suitable for resection because they either have extrahepatic disease, or the extent and/or the distribution of their hepatic disease would make excision impossible. We have previously described the use of cryotherapy for inadequate resection margins and lesions in the remaining lobe of the liver. Combining such cryodestructive techniques with resection offers the possibility of increasing the proportion of patients to whom potentially curative treatment can be offered. The aim of this st…

Prognostic factors for cryotherapy of colorectal liver metastases.

2004

Abstract Background . Cryotherapy is a local ablative treatment option for non-resectable liver tumours. We aimed to identify prognostic indicators, that may allow better selection or stratification for adjuvant therapies of patients. Methods . Fifty-five patients had cryotherapy for colorectal liver metastases. The patient-, tumour- and operative details were recorded prospectively. Mean follow up was 24 months. A uni- and multivariate analysis for possible prognostic factors was performed. Results . There was a trend towards better survival for patients with unilobar liver metastases, preoperative serum levels of carcinoembrional antigen (CEA) not exceeding 20 ng/ml and patients undergoin…

Cryotherapy for liver metastases

2000

Cryotherapy is undergoing a renaissance in the treatment of nonresectable liver tumors. In a prospective case control study we assessed the morbidity, mortality, and efficacy of hepatic cryotherapy for liver metastases. Between January 1996 and September 1999 a total of 54 cryosurgical procedures were performed on 49 patients (median age 66 years, 21 women) with liver metastases. Patient, tumor, and operative details were recorded prospectively. Liver metastases originated from colorectal cancer (n=37), gastric cancer (n=3), renal cell carcinoma (n=2), and other primaries (n=7). Median follow-up was 13 months (1-32). The median number of liver metastases was 3 (range 1-10) with a median dia…

Elimination of Citrus variegation virus (CVV) by seed cryotherapy

2014

Citrus variegation ilarvirus (CVV) is one of the oldest viruses reported in Citrus, which produces crinkling, puckering and variegation of leaves in field trees and, occasionally, variegated and deformed fruits. This virus is primarily transmitted by grafting. However, no consistent data are available concerning CVV seed transmission, which is apparently low. The elimination of CVV in citrus genotypes is carried out by shoot-tip-grafting. In the case of seed sources, virus elimination directly in the seeds becomes essential. In cryotherapy, plant pathogens such as viruses, phytoplasmas and bacteria are eradicated by exposing explants to liquid nitrogen. It allows treatment of a high number …

Die Kryotherapie von primären und sekundären malignen Lebertumoren: Ergebnisse bei 66 Patienten / Cryotherapy of Primary and Secondary Malignant Live…

2001

A comparative evaluation: Oral leukoplakia surgical management using diode laser, CO2 laser, and cryosurgery

2017

Background The comparatively evaluate the three surgical treatment modalities namely cryosurgery, diode and CO2 laser surgery in terms of healing outcomes on the day of surgery, first and second week post operatively and recurrence at the end of 18 months was assessed. Material and methods Thirty selected patients were divided randomly into three groups. Each group comprising of ten patients were subjected to one of the three modalities of treatment namely cryosurgery, diode laser or CO2 laser surgery for ablation of OL. Obtained data was analyzed using mainly using Chi-square and Anova tests. Results Study showed statistical significant differences (p > 0.05) for evaluation parameters like…
