Anitis — Cryptitis — Papillitis

1979

Inflammatory processes within this transitional zone cannot be separated from one another and often occur together. The source of the infection will usually be found in the crypts of Morgagni, originating in the dorsal crypts and spreading to the adjacent papillae. The area of involvement appears erythematous and edematous, and pus occasionally exudes from the crypts. An association exists between cryptitis and the development of anal fissures, and between anal fissures and hemorrhoidal diseases. The anal canal is for the most part also involved in the inflammatory process. One encounters an anitis, which because of an increased secretion produces a perianitis and perpetuates a perianal ecz…

Embedded Model Control and dynamic simulation

2006

Embedded model control (EMC) is and end-to-end control technology addressed to industrial engineers and centered on the embedded model, a stylized discrete-time state equation of the whole plant, including environment, communication and computing resources. The embedded model, which is the core of the control unit, is derived and validated from a fine model of the plant which is implemented as a simulator code. The latter acts as a faithful and friendly test-bench where assessing control units before they are loaded into target processor. The paper illustrates the requirements and architecture of the EMC simulator under continuous improvement. A case study closes the paper.

Overload breakdown in models for photosynthesis

2015

In many models of the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis it is observed that there are solutions where concentrations of key substances belonging to the cycle tend to zero at late times, a phenomenon known as overload breakdown. In this paper we prove theorems about the existence and non-existence of solutions of this type and obtain information on which concentrations tend to zero when overload breakdown occurs. As a starting point we take a model of Pettersson and Ryde-Pettersson which seems to be prone to overload breakdown and a modification of it due to Poolman which was intended to avoid this effect.

Summary of results at center-of-mass energies from 3.65 to 3.90 GeV. N(SIG) is the number of E+ E- --> P P events; EPSILON is the detection efficiency; L is the integrated luminosity; (1 + DELTA)(DRESSED) is the initial state radiation correction factor without the vacuum polarization correction; and SIG(OBS), SIG(DRESSED) and SIG(BORN) are the observed cross section, the dressed cross section and the Born cross section, respectively.

SIG(C=LEPT) and SIG(C=HADR) are the cross sections upper limits evaluated for leptonic and hadronic decay modes of the W-boson, while SIG(C=COMB) are the values obtained by combining the leptonic and hadronic W-boson decay channels. All cross sections values are obtained under assumption of BR(TQ --> W+ BQ) = 100 %.

Key advantages of the leverage points perspective to shape human-nature relations

2021

This perspective paper synthesises the special issue 'Human-nature connectedness as a leverage point for sustainability transformation'. Based on the articles in this special issue, we aim to foster the operationalisation of the leverage points perspective to shape human-nature relations to enable sustainability transformations. Specifically, we draw on four key advantages of the leverage points perspective: (i) the explicit recognition of deep leverage points; (ii) the ability to examine the interactions between shallow and deep system changes; (iii) the combination of causal and teleological modes of research; and (iv) the ability to function as a methodological boundary object. The contr…

What does Cryptocercus kyebangensis, n.sp. (Dictyoptera: Blattaria: Polyphagidae) from Korea reveal about Cryptocercus evolution? A study in morpholo…

This species, though morphologically very similar to other East Asian and North American species, presents conspicuous differentiation of both ribosomal genes (sequenced fragments of 12S and 16S) and chemical blends from tergal glands (proportions of linalyl acetate and the alcohol 4, 6, 8-trimethyl-7, 9-undecadien-5-ol, compounds previously identified in females originating from North America). The effect of the launch of bitcoin futures on the cryptocurrency market: an economic efficiency approach

2021

We analyze the economic efficiency of the cryptocurrency market after the launch of Bitcoin futures by means of the Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist Indexes. Our results show that the introduction of Bitcoin futures did not affect the economic efficiency of the cryptocurrency market. However, we observe that Bitcoin obtained the highest risk-return trade-off due to its liquidity compared to the rest of cryptocurrencies. Therefore, our paper underlines the support of investors on Bitcoin to the detriment of the rest of cryptocurrencies.

Crypto market responses to digital asset policies

2023

We construct daily databases of crypto bans and policy statements concerning central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) to estimate their effect on crypto trading volumes for an unbalanced panel of 116 countries from November 2016 to December 2021. We find that trading volume falls by up to 55% in the week after the announcement of a ban, and by up to 25% after a CBDC-supportive speech by senior central bank officials. For the strictest bans, this reduction persists over the subsequent quarter, driven by a reduction in trading by institutional investors. The results suggest that crypto market participants pay significant attention to government policy on digital assets.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. A…
