Designing binuclear transition metal complexes: a new example of the versatility of N,N′-bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6

2005

[Abstract] N,N′-Bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6 (L) is a versatile receptor able to adapt to the coordinative preferences of different metal cation guests. With first-row transition metal ions, L tends to form binuclear complexes but, depending on the nature of the particular metal ion, the structure of the binuclear complex may be very different. Herein we report a study of the structure and magnetic properties of the corresponding nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes. The X-ray crystal structure of the nickel complex (1), with formula [Ni2(L)(CH3CN)4](ClO4)4·CH3CN, shows that this compound presents a symmetric coordination environment with L adopting an anti arrangement. Each Ni(I…

Conformational and structural studies of N-methylacetohydroxamic acid and of its mono- and bis-chelated uranium(VI) complexes

2015

The thermodynamics and kinetics of the cis/trans isomerism of N-methylacetohydroxamic acid (NMAH) and its conjugated base (NMA(-)) have been reinvestigated in aqueous media by (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Hindered rotation around the central C-N bond due to electronic delocalization becomes slow enough on the NMR time scale to observe both rotamers in equilibrium in D2O at room temperature. By properly assigning the methyl group resonances, evidence for the prevalence of the E over the Z form is unambiguously provided [K300=[E]/[Z]=2.86(2) and 9.63(5) for NMAH and NMA(-), respectively], closing thereby a long-lasting dispute about the most stable conformer. To that end, calculations of the chemic…

Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl-rhodium and iridium complexes containing (N^N and N^O) bound chloroquine analogue ligands: synthesis, characterization an…

2016

The synthesis and characterization of twenty new pentamethylcyclopentadienyl-rhodium and iridium complexes containing N^N and N^O-chelating chloroquine analogue ligands are described. The in vitro antimalarial activity of the new ligands as well as the complexes was evaluated against the chloroquine sensitive (CQS) NF54 and the chloroquine resistant (CQR) Dd2 strains of Plasmodium falciparum. The antimalarial activity was found to be good to moderate; although all complexes are less active than artesunate, some of the ligands and complexes showed better activity than chloroquine (CQ). In particular, rhodium complexes were found to be considerably more active than iridium complexes against t…

Synthesis and characterization of [Mo(μ-EPh)(CO)3(CH3CN)]2 (E=Se, Te), including the X-ray structure of the tellurium derivative

2000

International audience; The reaction of Mo(CO)3(MeCN)3 and E2Ph2 (E=Se, Te) yields the edge-sharing bioctahedral, metalmetal bonded Mo(I) products [Mo(CO)3(MeCN)(μ-EPh)]2. The structure of the tellurolato derivative was confirmed by X-ray crystallography: triclinic, space group , a=7.3149(17), b=9.6959(16), c=9.7090(10) Å, α=80.366(10), β=76.563(13), γ=72.877(16)°, V=636.43(19) Å3, Dcalc=2.222 Mg m−3, μ=3.271 mm−1, R1=0.0418, wR2=0.0689 for 163 parameters and 2238 data with I>2σ(I). The interaction of these compounds with excess E2Ph2 as a possible entry to homoleptic Mo(EPh)3 has been investigated.

Interaction between heterobinuclear molecules and nature of the ground spin state in oximato-bridged [CuIIMII]2 bis-binuclear complexes (M=Cu, Ni, Mn…

1999

[EN] Two new heterobimetallic complexes [Cu(pdmg)Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)(CH3CH2OH)](ClO4)(2)(2) and [Cu(pdmg) Mn(bipy)(2)]-ClO4)(2) . H2O (3) (H(2)pdmg = 3,9-dimethyl-4,8-diazaundeca-3,8-diene-2 10-dione dioxime; Me-3[12]N-3 = 2,4,4-trimethyl-1,5,9-triazacyclododeca-1-ene; bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl) have been prepared and characterized. The structure of 2 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. It consists of [Cu(pdmg)Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)(CH3CH2OH)](2+) cations and non-coordinated perchlorate anions. The [Cu(pdmg)(CH3CH2OH)] complex coordinates to the [Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)](2+) fragment to afford the binuclear unit doubly-bridged by oximato groups in cis arrangement. The coordination geo…

Modelling leaky photonic wires: a mode solver comparison

2006

We present results from a mode solver comparison held within the framework of the European COST P11 project. The structure modelled is a high-index contrast photonic wire in silicon-oninsulator subject to substrate leakage. The methods compared are both in-house developed and commercial, and range from effective index and perturbation methods, over finite-element and finite-difference codes, beam propagation methods, to film mode matching methods and plane wave expansion methods.

Synthesis and electronic aspects of tetrahydrobenzothienopyrimidine derivatives

2015

Abstract The chemistry of thiophenes, pyrimidines, triazolopyrimidines and benzothiophenes has drawn much attention because of their biological activities. Their interesting properties are connected with their complex π-electron delocalisation effects. Herein the synthesis, crystal and molecular structures at 100 K and DFT calculated structures of three tetrahydrobenzothienopyrimidine derivatives are reported i.e. 4-hydrazino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro[1]benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine which was a substrate for 2-phenyl-8,9,10,11-tetrahydro[1]benzothieno[3,2-e][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidine and 3-methyl-9,10,11,12-tetrahydro-2H-[1]benzothieno[2′,3′:4,5]pyrimido[1,6-b][1,2,4]triazin-2-one. Unprecedented reactivity of a Schiff base ligand in the co-ordination sphere of copper(I) complex towards β-diketones. Synthesis and X-ray characteri…

2002

International audience; The reactions of the copper(I) derivative [CuL(THF)(CH3CN)]PF6 (1), in which L is the di-imine/pyridine ligand 2,6-bis[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine, with different β-diketones (2,4-pentanedione (acacH), 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione (dbm)) yielded the new Cu(I) salt [CuL′2]PF6 (2) (L′: 2-[acetyl]-6-[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine). These reactions of β-diketones with a di-imine/pyridine ligand co-ordinated to a Cu(I) centre constitute the first example of a partial hydrolysis of such a Schiff base within the inner sphere of a Cu centre. Compound 2·acaH has been characterised by X-ray crystallography. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ…

Spin-crossover in the [Fe(abpt)2(NCX)2] (X=S, Se) system: Structural, Magnetic, calorimetric and photomagnetic studies

1999

[EN] The compounds [Fe(abpt)(2)(NCS)(2)] (1) and [Fe(abpt)(2)(NCSe)(2)] (2) with abpt = 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole have been synthesized. The X-ray structures have been determined at 293 K. 1 and 2 are isostructural and crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with Z = 2, a = 8.538(8), b = 10.246(8), c = 16.45(2) Angstrom, beta = 93.98(9)degrees for 1 and a = 8.623(2), b = 10.243(3), c = 16.585(3) Angstrom, beta = 93.19(2)degrees for 2. In both complexes, the coordination core has a similar pseudo-octahedral geometry with the NCS- (1) and NCSe- (2) groups in the trans-position. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data give evidence for a low-spin (LS)high…
