Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Properties of Multicomponent Bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene Charge-Transfer Salts of the [Mo3S7Br6]2- Cluster

2005

A new family of bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (ET) radical salts has been prepared in the presence of a triangular molybdenum sulfide cluster of formula [Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] 2 - , which contains highly electrophilic axialsulfur atoms. A systematic change in the experimental conditions yields five different salts, namely (ETA)2(ET B )[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] 2 . CH 2 Br 2 (1), (ETA)(ET B )Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ].1.1CH 2 Br 2 (2), (ETA)(ETB)(ET C ){[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ]Br}.0.5C 2 H 4 Cl 2 (3), (ET)((n-Bu 4 )N)-[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] (4), and (ET)(Ph4P)[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ].0.5CH 3 CN (5), where the ET subscript denotes crystallographically independent molecules. The five compounds have been structurally characterized, a…

Crystal structure and spectroscopic study of [Cu(BPCA)(OH2)(O2CCH3)·H2O complex; BPC = N-2-pyridinylcarbonyl-2-pyridinecarboximidate anion

1989

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of the [Cu(BPCA)(OH2)(O 2CCH3]·H2O complex (BPCA = N-2-pyridinylcarbonyl-2-pyridinecarboximidate anion) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P l with two formula units in a cell of dimensions: a = 7.416(2), b = 8.632(4), c = 13.034(3) A, α = 74.55(3), β = 84.84(3), γ = 81.04(5)°. Least-squares refinement of 2534 reflections with I > 2.5σ(I) and 218 parameters gave a final R = 0.047 and Rw = 0.049. The structure consists of discrete [Cu(BPCA)(OH2)(O2CCH3)] neutral units linked through hydrogen bonding. The coordination geometry around copper ions can be described as tetragonal square pyrami…

Self-Assembly of the Hexabromorhenate(IV) Anion with Protonated Benzotriazoles: X-ray Structure and Magnetic Properties

2014

Two novel ReIV compounds of formulas [HBTA]2[ReIVBr6] (1) and [HMEBTA]2[ReIVBr6] (2) [BTA = 1H-benzotriazole and MEBTA = 1-(methoxymethyl)-1H-benzotriazole] have been synthesized and magneto-structurally characterized. 1 and 2 crystallize in the triclinic system with space group P1̅. In both compounds, the rhenium ion is six-coordinate, bonded to six bromo ligands in a regular octahedral geometry. Short ReIV–Br···Br–ReIV contacts, π–π stacking, and H-bonding interactions occur in the crystal lattice of both 1 and 2, generating novel supramolecular structures based on the ReIV. The different dispositions of the cations and the intermolecular Br···Br contacts in 1 and 2 play an important stru…

Iron(II) complexes of naphthalenes. X-ray structure of [cyclopentadienyl-iron(II)-η6-octamethylnaphthalene]PF6

1992

Abstract Complex ions [cyclopentadienyl-Fe(methylnaphthalene)]+ with 4 to 8 methyl substituents have been prepared from [CpFe(o-dichlorobenzene)]+ by a photochemical ligand exchange. Complexation shifts have been determined for 1H and 13C resonances of the η6-bonded naphthalenes. The X-ray structure of [CpFe(octamethylnaphthalene)]PF6 0.5 acetone has been determined. Crystals are monoclinic, the space group C2/c with unit-cell dimensions a = 10.689(4), b = 22.391(5), c = 20.550(4)A, β = 93.41(2)°, Z = 8. The structure determination established a distorted molecular geometry of the octamethylnaphthalene that is different from the free arene and its Cr(CO)3 complex.

Crystal structure and mössbauer spectroscopy studies of the ferrimagnetic complex bimetallic salt hexaamminechromium (III) hexachloroferrate (III), […

1992

The crystal and molecular structures of the ferrimagnetic bimetallic complex salt hexaamminechromium(III) hexachloroferrate(III), [Cr(NH3)6][FeCl6], have been determined from single-crystal, three-dimensional x-ray diffraction counter data. The compound crystallizes as orange coloured crystals in the space groupC2/c of the monoclinic system with Z=4 and has cell dimensionsa=11.325(1) A,b=11.387(1) A,c=11.233(1) A, and β=90.83(1)A. The structure was refined by using segmented block diagonal least-squares techniques to discrepancy indices R and Rw of 0.0233 and 0.0285, respectively. The metal ions occupy sites with symmetry $$\bar 1$$ and are nearly octahedrally coordinated. In the [FeCl6]3− …

Relationships between fatty acid monolayer structure on the subphase and on solid substrates

1991

Abstract Docosanoic acid monolayers with known molecular packings on the water surface have been deposited on thin polymer films and then investigated using transmission electron diffraction at normal and tilted incidence. The diffraction patterns from monolayers deposited under all conditions investigated could be indexed as arising from the same conformationally disordered centred rectangular packing with molecules standing perpendicular to the substrate, although with a spread of unit cell parameters within and between each deposition condition significantly greater than the experimental error. This packing has been seen in monolayers on the water surface, but only under conditions compl…

Nb 4 Te 17 I 4 , a New Pseudo One‐Dimensional Solid‐State Polytelluride

1994

The new ternary compound Nb4Te17I4 has been prepared and structurally characterized. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with unit-cell parameters a = 16.199(4), b = 8.128(2), c = 27.355(6) A, β = 110.84(2)°, Z = 4. The structure consists of infinite one-dimensional niobium/tellurium chains running parallel to the crystallographic c direction. The chains are separated by iodine atoms. Short and long metal–metal distances alternate in the sequence of three consecutive short bonds ([d ≈ 3.1 – 3.2 A) and one long (d = 4.268 A) metal–metal separation. Each Nb atom is eight-coordinate. The composition of the chain is ∞11[(Nb5+)2(Nb4+)2(Te22−)4(Te32−)3(I−)4].

Interaction of methylmercury(II) with the bifunctional ligand o-diphenylphosphinobenzoate, dpb. Synthesis and characterization of [(dpb)HgMe] and [(d…

1998

Abstract The complex [(dpb)HgMe] (1) is obtained by reaction of MeHg(OH) with o-diphenylphosphinobenzoic acid (Hdpb); alternatively the solvate [(dpb)HgMe] · 0.5H2O · 0.5C5H5N (1bis) can be prepared by reacting MeHgCl with Hdpb and pyridine. The derivative [(dpbo)HgMe] (2), where dpbo is o-diphenylphosphinoxidebenzoate, is formed by reaction of 1 or 1bis solutions with atmospheric oxygen. Crystal data for 1bis: monoclinic, space group P2/n, a=10.413(4), b=9.831(3), c=20.674(3) A, β=102.51(3)°, Z=2. Crystal data for 2: triclinic, space group P1, a=11.535(2), b=12.897(5), c=13.275(7) A, α=88.31(4), β=73.65(4), γ=85.27(4)°, Z=2. In 1bis the mercury atom displays a distorted linear fashion, bei…

Metal ion complexation by tetraester derivatives of bridged calix [4] arenes

1992

A series of bridged calix [4] arenes (5–10 methylene groups in the bridge) were synthesized and transformed into their tetraester derivatives by reaction with ethyl bromoacetate. The stability constants for complexes of the tetraester derivatives with sodium, potassium and silver cations, determined in methanol by spectroscopic or potentiometric techniques, show a drastic decrease (more than 105 for Na +) for the shorter methylene chains. 1H NMR studies demonstrate a conformational rearrangement of the calixarene part to fourfold symmetry to be necessary for the complexation of a cation, which is prevented by the shorter chains. This is further confirmed by the X-ray structure of a tetraest…
