Harnessing Fluorescence versus Phosphorescence Branching Ratio in (Phenyl)n-Bridged (n = 0–5) Bimetallic Au(I) Complexes

2013

We have designed and synthesized a series of Au(I) complexes bearing either an alkynyl–(phenylene)n–diphosphine (A-0–A-3) or a (phenylene)n–diphosphine (B-1–B-5) bridge, among which the effective distance between Au(I) and the center of the emitting ππ* chromophore can be fine-tuned via the insertion of various numbers of phenylene spacers. We then demonstrated for the first time in a systematic manner the decrease of rate constant for S1 → T1 intersystem crossing (ISC) kisc as the increase of the effective distance. The results also unambiguously showed that the phosphorescence could be harvested via higher S0 → Sn (n > 1) electronic excitation, followed by fast Sn → Tm ISC and then the po…

Lack of cross‐resistance to otherBacillus thuringiensiscrystal proteins in a population ofPlutella xylostellahighly resistant to cryia(b)

1994

Competition experiments were performed with brush border membrane vesicles of diamondback moth larvae using 125I‐labelled CryIA(b) and unlabelled CryIA(a), CryIA(b) and CryIA(c). The results suggested a model with a single binding site for CryIA(b). Heterologous competition showed that CryIA(c) competed as effectively as CryIA(b) for the CryIA(b) binding site, whereas CryIA(a) competed less effectively. Toxicity tests were performed on third instar larvae with trypsin‐activated insecticidal crystal proteins (ICPs) and a commercial formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (Dipel). A laboratory colony was found to be susceptible to all four ICPs tested and to Dipel. CryIA(b), CryIA(c) and C…

Spectroscopic characterization and biological activity ofL-methionyl-L histidinato complexes of R2Sn(IV) ions (R?=?Me, nBu, Ph) and X-ray structure o…

2000

Complexes of L-methionyl-L-histidine (H2MetHis) with R2Sn(IV) ions (R = Me, nBu, Ph) have been synthesized. The crystal and molecular structures of Me2SnMetHis·0.5MeOH have been determined by X-ray diffraction. The title compound contains two crystallographically independent molecular units possessing the same trigonal-bipyramidal geometry at tin, each dimethyltin(IV) moiety being coordinated by the terminal amino nitrogen, deprotonated peptide nitrogen and terminal carboxylate group, neither the imidazole nor thioether groups being involved in bonding. IR spectroscopy was used to probe the structure of the complexes in the solid state, and the structure in solution (CD3OD) was assessed by …

A new 3-D polymeric spin transition compound: [tris(1,4-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)butane-N1,N 1′)iron(II)] bis(perchlorate)

2001

A series of novel polymeric compounds of formula [M(btzb)3][ClO4]2 (Mll = Fe, Ni or Cu) with btzb = 1,4-bis-(tetrazol-1-yl)butane have been prepared and their physical properties investigated. The btzb ligand has been prepared and its crystal structure determined, together with a tentative crystal structure of the 3-D compound [Fe(btzb)3][ClO4]2. The model of the latter shows two symmetry-related, interpenetrating Fe-btzb networks in which the iron(II) ions approach each other as close as 8.3 and 9.1 A. This supramolecular catenane undergoes a sharp thermal spin transition around 160 K with hysteresis (20 K) along with a pronounced thermochromic effect. The spin crossover behaviour has been…

A new phase in ferroelectric oxides: The phase of charge transfer vibronic excitons

2001

It is shown, by means of Hartree-Fock-type calculations using the intermediate neglect of the differential overlap (INDO) method, that polaronic-type charge transfer vibronic excitons (CTVE) in ferroelectric oxides could lead to the formation of a new phase. The ground-state energy of this phase of strongly correlated CTVE lies within an optical gap of pure crystal, and is characterized by a strong tetragonal lattice distortion, as well as ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic ordering. It is shown also that clusters of the CTVE phase being stabilized by oxygen vacancies could be responsible for the unusually strong optical Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) in nominally pure incipient ferroele…

Active photonic crystals based on surface acoustic waves

2003

An active photonic crystal (PC) based on the modulation of a one-dimensional cavity resonator by electrically-generated surface acoustic waves is described. The high nonthermal population of surface modes combined with the enhanced Brillouin scattering in the cavity increases the intensity of the scattered light to values comparable to the excitation intensity. This process is employed to switch and modulate light beams in PCs.

BaCoO3 monoclinic structure and chemical bonding analysis: hybrid DFT calculations

2021

Cobalt based perovskites have great potential for numerous applications. Contrary to a generally assumed hexagonal space group (SG P63/mmc) model as the ground state of BaCoO3 (BCO), our hybrid DFT calculations with B1WC density functional and the symmetry group–subgroup derived crystal structure model support the ground state of BCO to be indeed monoclinic, in agreement with recent experimental predictions [Chin et al., Phys. Rev. B, 2019, 100, 205139]. We found for the monoclinic BCO that the C-type anti-ferromagnetic low-spin (AFM LS) state (SG P2/c) is energetically only slightly more preferential at 0 K than the ferromagnetic (FM) LS state (SG C2/c). In turn, these monoclinic structure…

ChemInform Abstract: Theoretical and Spectroscopic Studies on Imino-Carbon Palladated Pyridine-2-carbaldimines.

1987

Abstract Ab initio LCAO-MO-SCF calculations on the model compounds C 5 H 4 N-2-C(R 1 )=NH [R 1 = H ( 2c ) and R 1 = trans -PdCl(PH 3 ) 2 ( 4c )] indicate that the E - trans conformation is favored over the E - cis one by 16.9 kJ mol −1 for 2c and by 25.0 kJ mol −1 for 4c . One of the factors which stabilizes the E-trans arrangement for 4c is a weak bonding interaction between the palladium center and the pyridine nitrogen. On going from 2c to 4c a slight charge enrichment on the pyridine carbons and a more pronounced one on the nitrogen atoms is computed, whereas the charge density of the imino carbon atom is decreased. In 4c no π contribution to the PdC bond is observed. Protonation of th…

Influence of Bond Fixation in Benzo-Annulated N-Salicylideneanilines and Their ortho-C(O)X Derivatives (X = CH3, NH2, OCH3) on Tautomeric Equilibria …

2007

1H, 13C, and 15N NMR spectra show that an ortho-C(=O)X group present in the molecules of N-salicylideneanthranilamide (X = NH2), methyl N-salicylideneanthranilate (X = OCH3), N-salicylidene-o-aminoacetophenone (X = CH3), and their benzo analogues have only a minor effect on the tautomeric OH/NH-equilibrium in solution. Only two of three possible tautomers were detected. Lability of the absent form was proved by theoretical calculations. Calculated energies show that the enolimino form (OH) is less stable than the enaminone (NH) form only for dibenzo-annulated N-salicylideneanilines. The population of each species in the tautomeric mixture was found to be inversely proportional to its energy…
